It makes a crap ton of money. 6-7 million tons over the dock every year.

Insane video! How often do they run U-Boats up here? I go up near Manistique, MI (U.P) every summer, and I was thinking of going up to catch these. Would I have any luck, or just sitting up here, waiting for something that will never come?

Those were the big coal haulers for BN back in the 70's.

A EMD is A 2 stroke diesel A GE is a 4 stroke diesel. GES suck and take forever to load and smoke like hell as A EMD loads real fast that is why they are louder. It's like A old dirt bike compared to A newer one. They sound completely different. That's why EMDS are used for switching service, try kicking cars with A GE won't happen there to slow. Work good for coal trains but not much else.

They worked just fine for the GCR for switching and kicking cars, hauling heavy coal and mix freight including containers and if not for gwr's buy out and there love affair with old ass pos emds they would still be running today.

+Dasher U23B In A rail fan way they are cool, But in real life they didn't work well. They is A reason why railroads are rebuilding sd40s And sd60s And not old GEs. You can't beat A EMD. Also you don't see railroads hump with GEs, They use EMDs they load better.

steiger 256 Can’t beat an EMD? Then why has GE led the market by a wide margin for over 20 years now? It’s also not true that railroads aren’t rebuilding old GEs. Some Dash 8s were rebuilt into Dash 8.5s, and Dash 9s are being rebuilt very quickly. Sure, GEs might load slower, but it would seem many roads are able to ignore this, since GE leads the market. Until what’s left of EMD somehow passes GE in market share, there’s no reason to fly the “EMD is superior everything else is garbage” flag.
