Typical Toyota bias. I tow a 3.2t van and have towed it with a Colorado, 200 series and a Y62 which I have all owned. The Y62 by far is the best and it is more economical than the 200 series despite being petrol. The 200 series was using 24lt/100 whilst the Y62 is using 21lt/100. The Y62 is also cheap to service and maintain. They are also a lot cheaper to buy. Also with the Patrol you don't need to buy a lock up torque converter or a larger transmission cooler. I think this video is a bit bias as most of them are Toyota fans. The Patrol is a very underrated 4wd, but those who have bought them have never looked back. PS I used to be a Toyota person through and through until I drove the Y62. Any way just my 2 cents worth.
I'm not sure its Toyota bias mate as much as it is diesel bias. We have a problem in this country of immediately discounting anything that isnt a stonking big diesel.
All opinions. If there was a factual 100% accurate comparison then there would only have been 1 brand of vehicle producing 1 car of each type on earth.
I tow 3.3tn van with my 2015 dmax with ease. I have upgraded the suspension to and gvm and it hasn't missed a beat. I have done well over 160,000km in 2 years in owning them and love it
You failed to mention the y62 was stock tune engine and auto with factory lock up on 35s while the 200 you showed us was on smaller tires, engine tune, trans tune and lock up kit to get it to do the job a stock y62 could do.... massively misleading, I’ve owned both and there isn’t much in it fuel consumption wise, but hey your the expert
Completely misleading, own both vehicles at the moment, both stock motor and transmission wise, Y62 is by far the better tow vehicle, with nothing more then 200kg rear springs, tows our 3.4t without effort, the 200 series won't hold gears, struggles on ever decent climb, has next to know power to over take, Both using same amount of fuel +or - 1lt or so,
One thing that was obvious is the noise difference in the cab and with that I'm sure comfort. Even the ram was noisy, I'd be interested to know what the comfort is like in the ram.
We towed our 3T van with our four cylinder diesel banger around Oz recently no worries at all, tuned and set up correctly for towing etc of course. No float, wandering, trouble pulling out on the motorway or getting pushed about as mentioned here. Yes down on power up them hills compared to the big girls but had all the time in the world getting to destination nowhere. Weighed our options on upgrading to a bigger donk before we embarked and I’m glad we didn’t, saved our selves forking at least 60k to upgrade not to mention the depreciation that comes with it. Tow with a vehicle your comfortable with not what the brands tell you to..
(30:50) Y62's have shot up in price shauno, also I'll go and say the Y62 is far more capable offroad than the 200 series because of that rear solid axle in the 200(getting stuck because of the pumpkin) and because they love trashing CV joints,i dont own either never have BUT if i was going to buy one the Y62 would be my choice..
Yes sir! Diesels might use a tad less fuel but they need untold thousands of dollars to make them any good. Even then, a bit of bad fuel and you can kiss $20,000 goodbye in a heartbeat. Bad fuel in a petrol? Maybe $2000 if it's really bad.
Well done guys, sometimes the truth hurts.👍 Oh and Shaun and “ experts “, Dodge hasn’t made RAM’s for over a decade. FCA - Split RAM from Dodge way back in Oct 2009 to become a seperate company and manufacturer . The old Dodge RAM’s are pretty much known as Dodge Cummins these days ( because of the 6BT Cummins engine). The Y62 uses a similar amount of fuel when towing as the 200 series. Common knowledge these days. 😉
It's still owned by Fiat Chrysler. But yes, separate factory and name. The fuel economy comments from Shaun were not fair were they. I thought the same as what you said that the Y62 has similar fuel use as the 200 series.
@@benharris7957 Well poor on fuel sure, but that it would drink as much as a Y62 V8 petrol sounds mental :P My experiance (non with there speceific cars, but in general) is that petrols are a lot thirstier than diesels when really having to work while towing. What gas mileage did you get with the 200, or what do you get now with the Ram, and how heavy stuff are you towing?
When giving this advice and I say it is a very good comparison you have presented, we need to remember that when towing or changing headlights people need to be reminded to re-adjust the headlight level so as not to blind on-coming traffic.
From memory the 79 is the only vehicle there that has a 3.5tonne towing plus 1.2 tonne carrying. The other vehicles “increase” the towing capacity by reducing the carrying capacity. I owned a 200 and nearly chopped it. Went back to a 79 dual cab instead. Its “fit for purpose” suits me better. 😊
Very predictable that the 200 won for no better reason than brand loyalty. Proper heavy load testing has shown that the Y62s pulling power is superior to the 200 and fuel economy is identical if not a fracco better. And the best thing, no "T" tax.
I've read a few tow test reviews on Y62 vs 200 and i thought by all accounts the fuel economy wasn't that different? Most testers i read were surprised how economical the y62 was and how much thirstier the 200 was than they expected.
With modern engines being very efficient, you burn the same amount of fuel for every horsepower in petrol and diesel. They're pretty equal, although 20 years ago, it was a different story
The clear toyota bias shines through again. The y62 was bone stock on 35s, cruiser had smaller tyres, lock up kit and a tune, really fair comparison to make the Nissan look worse on fuel.
@@lachlansheekey2839 hows is it bias, its really bias to the patrol then which has bigger motor with more hp, even though it is "stock" and when people are saying the petrol is just as good on fuel trust me it isnt. horsepower is horsepower and tuning a 200 making 300 more nm they do tow better, its showing diesel engines tow better which they do
@@ado6770 but they don't tow better. You can't say the Y62 is a better motor therefor unfair.... it's the stock motor. Looking at the point you just made, you an go throw a supercharger on the y62 and it'll shit all over the 200 series. Just as it does when both are stock.
Did I miss something? Towing comparison and no mention of gvm/gcm. I know most of us modify our 4wds but, standard 200. GVM 3350kg - 2750kg tare mass no accessories = 600kg payload - 350 downball weight of 3.5t van = 250kg left. As for 79. I use one for work. Try emergency braking a 1.5t trailer on hwy 😱. Lol worst tow vehicle imo. Give my 3.2 ranger any day. Way safer. I personally feel you need more than power to tow safely. I agree 100% about upgrading the suspension to suit. Its a good feeling knowing that you can't feel like you're towing something heavy but sometimes it pays to be aware or feel that there is 3.5t attached to your vehicle. Especially when your family is in the vehicle and off road. Steady steady people..no rush. After all, you're on holidays. 😄🤙
They listed the GVM & GCM for every vehicle. Very few vehicles tow or carry decent loads well without a GVM upgrade. An ARB 4015kg GVM upgrade on a LC 200 takes your payload from around 500kgs to around 1375kgs. 🦾
Nice video, but no mention that the Ram has the tow/haul button standard, which locks the transmission in certain gears, which helps with transmission temp. Need to mod the 200 series transmission to be the same, fuel consumption not that far off to the 200 series. My choice would be the Ram. Nothing beats the HEMI....
its sort of ridiculous how much the older live axle falcons/commodoores can tow once you put HD springs, shocks and brake pads on them. well, maybe not so much the pads, you are reliant on the trailer for 75% of your braking :)
100% agree that a tow vehicle must be heavier than the load. Try going down a wet mountain pass with a 3 ton van behind a dual cab and you will soon realise what I mean :) I'd be interested in the EGT and trans temps of the utes towing the boat - high temps on sustained towing can kill a diesel engine in no time. For me, highway towing a biggish van the perfect tow vehicle is a Touareg with air suspension.
I take onboard what has been recommended here but as a caravan owner myself when I look around the many caravan parks I’ve visited over the past 3 years the choice of tow vehicles is interesting. Yes you will see your LC200 but by and large I see Pajeros, Prados and a selection of crew cab utes towing a whole range of campers and caravans. Why is that? Not everyone has a cool $90k to splurge on a LC200 and who wants to drive a LC200 to work perhaps in the city everyday? Not me. I’ve owned a Pajero for 5 years and it’s been an excellent tow vehicle. Absolutely bulletproof. I tow a 2200kg caravan.
Completely agree with you. It would have been good to get a recent model Pajero and a few other types of vehicles to include in the test. The 200S are not cheap and won't suit every budget, that's for sure! Shauno
@@4WD247 hey mate. I picked up my new XTerrain a few months back and just got home from towing a 2200kg Jurgens Lunagazer to Alice Springs. 5800kms. The Dmax returned 14 litres per 100 and did it with ease.
@@mattheginger Cummins motor? Literally a truck motor that does a million km. I'm a ftruck guy my 7.3 uses way less then my 200 did in fuel. And 6.8ton rated overseas.
@@mattheginger yeah I dunno america do a fair bit of overlanding no issues. Sold front axles etc. If you are worried about falling apart the d max is the worst built car I have ever seen. Cracks around strut mounts. Front centre cross member cracks both front inner wheel houses crack. Things are death traps.
I just purchased a 2024 Ram 1500 Ltd Night Edition to tow my Makaira Gen 3 750 Trailer Boat. I decided on the Ram because it comes standard with air suspension. The only upgrades I have done is the Mopar Catback Exhaust system and A K&N air filter. Waiting for the boat to be finished but I expect the Ram will do a good job.
Mates! The PCOR builds on their 2500 and 1500 Ram 'Super Tourer's', (definitely worth the view in my opinion @ Patriot Games on TH-cam) and if I'm not mistaken, the 2500 has a diesel, and the wifes 1500 has a petrol supercharged Hemi V8. And yes they both are heavily modified, but I think that Any 4WD/outdoors enthusiast would appreciate what they have created. God bless you all!
Hey this video came up on my feed so I thought I’d watch it. I have a few tow vehicles including a trackhawk which tows my 3tonne van with ease. I’ve found my v6 amarok a sensational tow rig. The only letdown is the tow ball weight. That’s easy to get around because of the payload. I move weight from the van to the back of the Ute. It makes the amarok heavier. It actually levels the springs and levels the Ute perfectly. It has ridiculous amounts of power and towa in 8th and 7th gear. Only rarely will it drop back further in the gear range on a tough hill. I drove from geraldton to perth in one tank. Overtook quite a few rangers and 200 series. I have a modded grand Cherokee with the 5.7 hemi like the ram. It’s so much more fun off road, it pulls incredibly good but sinks juice like an outback driller. In comparison I can only make it from Yanchep to jurien bay on one tank. But the v8 sounds mint and it great to hear it. It’s only a 5 speed gearbox and I have not adjusted the gear ratios to accommodate the big wheels so it would have an affect on the fuel usage. I think this video is missing quite a lot of detail and can be misleading to the future buyers. I saw no mention of mods and the affect on GCM. I’ve seen plenty a prado driver towing while pointing to the sky or many overloaded 200 series. The 200 series has virtually no payload and with barwork roof racks and a few other mods you have no payload. In fact a lot of 200 series are overloaded. You talked briefly about the ram GCM. Overloaded 200 series is a massive problem. They can do it but I think the whole industry is missing that. What about the ali guy not mentioning that putting a massive tray on the back seriously affects all these specs. I think you should do another video about weighting payload etc. there’s only one driver and no payloads. Each vehicle has a unique combination which will make it perform at its best.
@@BJK1987AU bruh my mum is literally like that her hilux just blew up and she refuses to buy a y62 because there auto and petrol like damn I’ll take auto and petrol anyday
Had an NP300. Re-mapped ecu, 33's and not towing, would set you back in the seat. Sadly while away down the coast the shortfall had become apparent while travelling home up the Kings Way, it struggled up the hills towing our camper ( 2000 ATM ). Was in 2 minds as to changing diff gears and some other mods, including 1200mm canopy on a 1650 tray, I decided on a 2019 Y62.....dollar for dollar it beat a 200 Series hands down. If you're worried about fuel economy, then a V8 is not for you..........
Its a real shame you didn't have a big V6 Amarok in there, it would have surprised you guys. I own both a Amarok and a 200 and rate the Amarok highly if not higher than the 200 when towing my old 3.2t van.
Lucky to at least have the options for tow vehicles in Aussie. Over the ditch in New Zealand your only real option is a dual cab ute as we are limited to 6,000kgGCM regardless of what the tow vehicle is, unless you are going to get a truck licence and an actual truck.
Awesome job guys. I tend to agree with your assessment. I wish you'd looked at the RAM 2500 Laramie Cummins instead of the 1500. It's in a similar price range to the Sahara (BEFORE you do the chop and extension and GVM upgrade to the 200) and you don't need to do any mods to tow the big van. It's not much wider than a 200 either. by the time you do a 650mm extension on a chopped 200 it'll be about the same length too. They have a 4.5 tonne towing capacity out of the box as well as 267KW and 1080 NM of torgue. If you can't tell....I'm a fan of the RAM!! Hahaha
A good rule of thumb to follow is; If what you are towing weighs as much as the tow vehicle then you are going to have trouble. I have a 2500 Ram with a 6.4 liter V8 and tow a 2021 Rockwood Mini Lite with it all over the eastern US. Those little trucks are fine for the small campers but if you get in high winds or mountains then you got troubles. My camper is 13 feet and 4 inches tall so the wind hits the front and holds you back when we towed with the 1500 Ram with the 5.7 liter motor. Both motors were as you would say petrol/gas motors.
@Matt There are videos that show the fuel difference is no where near what everyone likes to think problem is everyone thinks diesel is the only way to go but what they forget is we don't live in the 1950's anymore petrol could and can do the job and we all know if Toyota and Nissan switched and the y62 had a Toyota badge all the sheep would justify it even though there isn't a diesel option.
@@benharris7957 I had an early hemi Ram 1500 (2003.5) and it loved fuel, but was too small for most of my needs. I'm running a Ram 2500 with the 6.7 diesel now and getting mileage comparable to the 1500s with cylinder deactivation. The 1500 was only rated to tow 8,700 lbs and I didn't have confidence in the truck beyond about 7,000 lbs. The 2500 easily handles a 14,000 lb trailer.
It's 80k for a 200 and it's 100 percent worth it ram and patrol would chew fuel and won't last as long not as reliable etc,I would choose a cruiser for anything mate 💯
I get the impression that vehicles in Australia are considerably more expensive than they are in the United States. That said, the 2020 Dodge Ram 1500 "Classic" which is the previous body style (the one featured in this video) is still listed as a build-and-price on ram's website. Picking a "Tradesman" trim, club-cab with the 6'4" bed, 4x4, V8, with a 3.92 gear ratio and a rear limited slip, with the big gas tank is around $35,000 USD MSRP, which is is around $46,500 Australian. Obviously this does not include the ute-tray or other modifications, but even import/shipping costs bring it up to $55K AUD that's still twenty thousand dollars less than the 79-series. Even if it's thirsty, that can pay for an awful lot of fuel. And that's before considering the 2500 or 3500 classes, where the GVWR and GCWR go up considerably. I guess that North America is lucky in that regard, we get the heavier trucks that can be operated with a standard class license.
I’ve watched many tests comparing fuel consumption between the y62 and the 200 and they y62 just piped the 200 and used less fuel so this should have been tested properly but I’m not hating I really enjoyed the vid I want to emphasis this is not complaining I’m just stating a point of view😊
@@Billybob-vp7ze its always great when we get the milk bottles in for fucked transmissions...tHeY ToW sO GoOd 🥴 Even better when the owners say they thought the trans was the greatest thing since sliced bread
Interesting comparison. You didn’t compare fuel economy and had you done so, you may well have found the Y62 more economical than the 200 series. I tow 3.2t boat with a 2020 76 series and agree it needs a tune and HD clutch. What I don’t like about the 76 series is it’s wheelbase is too short for towing. My 4.8 patrol towed much better and comfortably but chewed through fuel. Enjoyed the video guys.
I was really looking forward to this video knowing that unbiased opinion would pick the Y62 as the best towing vehicle but personal preferences of the experts won the race. After all they were all owning LCs
Very few vehicles tow or carry decent loads well without a GVM upgrade. An ARB 4015kg GVM upgrade on a LC 200 takes your payload from around 500kgs to around 1375kgs. 🦾
There's no replacement for a HEMI... I love my Ram, I've been rock crawling in the same places as a Wrangler and i don't care what you do to your Toyota... it wont rock crawl like a Ram or a Wrangler. And now we got the TRX.... game over.
Out of the box the Cruiser and the Y62 have about the same fuel consumption towing around 3 t. The smiles on their faces when driving the Big Nissan and Ram said it all.
I had a MY2009 D-Max when I bought my 1.6 tonne forward fold camper. I upgraded to a 200 series shortly after and it is no comparison. The LC just doesn't know it is towing it even up steep hills and over taking. The D-Max would have probably been ok but there is definitely going to be less strain on the 200, and therefore less wear and tear in the long run.
It should be said that the 2.0 Ranger biturbo engine is built from scratch with a totally new block+head to handle the high boost and revs. It's not just an old 2 litre engine with a high boost turbo chucked on it. So it's great on fuel when cruising but has power when you're giving it heaps.
Hopefully you guys respond to me. Best tow vehicle for weight and GCM. Hino 4x4. Isuzu 4x4 fuso canter 4x4. Light trucks. No compromise. How about looking into these.
Couldn't have said it better myself mate. We have a couple of 2.0L rangers at work, although purchased 6 months apart they both have roughly 150k on them. One we use as a non towing pilot vehicle, and the other tows a 2.5 to 3.2 ton trailer 5 days a week. Compared to the pilot ute the dedicated tow ute is pretty much rooted. It just feels a bit baggy and worn out and is starting to develop some odd vibrations somewhere in the drive train. And I suspect if we continue to use it the way we do, I honestly doubt it will see 200k. I think, as with a lot of these modern utes, thing's like ten speed autos tend to give you a false sense of ability. Just because it'll tow 3.5 ton, doesn't mean you should. I'm thinking for the average man on the street, most of these double cabs would be perfectly fine for the odd jaunt to the boat ramp or towing a caravan over the holidays. But in the real world, as a long term tow vehicle, I think there just a bit light weight. Next upgrade will be a proper light truck, such as a Hino or Canter 4x4. Something a bit more fit for purpose, at least for us.
I know I'm gonna get smashed for this but I would have loved to have seen a standard Disco 5 with factory tow pack up against this lot (I get it's gonna be hard to get hold of one). 700nm of torque with adjustable airbag suspension. And unlike the 79 won't need a clutch and power upgrade.
Your missing a Range Rover sport SDV8 , this 4x4 doesn’t need any Mods like suspension it has trailer sway and airbags the power is fantastic 8speed trans as it comes standard so I suppose it would put the other guys out of business 250kw 740 NM
I knew nothing about tow vehicles that are fit for purpose, nor for that matter about the finer points of towing and tips that you guys have outlined, thankyou, brilliant videos.
I see the guys mention the 3.2 having better performance compared to the 2.0 would love you guys to do a comparison between a 2.0 and 3.2 Ranger including towing test to see if Ford went forwards or backwards
In Alberta, Canada I tow my ‘85 Toyota pickup on a carhauler regularly. We travel 2200 kms to Moab Utah ever year or so as well as many local trips. Almost all are on tarmac roads. Several long 7-8% grades with one that is 15 kms up at 10%and 15 kms down at 10% on the other side with hairpin turns so can’t ‘get up any steam’. I do this with a tuned Colorado with a 2.8 Duramax and 6 speed auto transmission. Total weight is 5.7 tonnes, properly distributed with an equalizing hitch. I have been towing for more than 45 years with no incidents. The Colorado is definitely maxed out and must be driven like a small truck with a heavy load. Reall should be towing with a larger truck and will be when this one is done. Good information!
Bought a new 79 series Land cruiser to tow my 3 tonne caravan. I've had installed Clearview mirrors and red ark breaking system. Believe I'll wait for the engine to run in before I opt for the performance tune and updated clutch. It's not perfect, but it's what I can afford.
As a ranger owner, i can say fair comparison. I tow around 3t on road with a turned 3.2. Its decent enough but i also drive a 14t Volvo truck with a 9t trailer behind it. Safe to say the 9t trailer cant budge the truck. Same cant be said for my car trailer and car. Mind you my next upgrade is an older gen F250. Sub 40k and its at 200 series tow capability.
Towing a 3T trailer/caravan is the fastest way to bending the chassis in a double cab Ute! Combine that with corregations and dips in the landscape which excels the tow ball down weight significantly which stresses the fulcrum in the vehicle. It may happen suddenly or you will slowly notice the chassis bending over time! Op for a single cab Ute if towing regularly regardless of how much you are towing! Conclusion: Do not tow more than what the vehicle weighs especially a double call Ute!
MY 2019 Navara has towed 3,5t for the last 2 years, 220.000km on the clock with zero faults, absolutely a dream, 100% reliable so far. With the Amarok or Ranger u can forget that. We use the Navara only for towing, so from the 220.000km its minimum 200.000km with a heavy car trailer attached, transporting cars. Id love to have more power tho.

Funny your comments about the Dmax, they are the most popular tow vehicle our customers get for towing our fifth wheel caravans (that are made in Toowoomba Queensland), which have a ATM of 3500 kg, the Dmax handle them well, plenty of power and stable as, no sway at all!!
I don't think you took into consideration the GVM (and GCM) of these vehicles. I believe some of these vehicles, including the Toyota 200 series, may have been illegal because you exceeded the gvm. It's not as simple as saying a vehicle is rated to tow 3-3.5tonne. you must consider drawbar weights too. I missed parts of the video so if I missed it-sorry
Thanks fella's good info. Every camping trips first piece of kit should be a set of bathroom scales. Most people would be shocked at the overall weight of their rolling stock if time taken to weigh absolutely everything you have to have on a camping trip I would of liked to see testing with passenger s and all the rubbish they tend to bring along
Great vid guys, that is why nearly every caravan i see whilst driving my truck is being towed by a 200. But say you are willing to pay a bit extra. As far as utes go,a chopped 200 is a great towing tourer, but aernt cheap. So if your around that price nothing will beat the RAM 2500 for towing anything. Its a debate my mates and i love having.
35% increase on the 200 brings power and torque output figures to 270kw & 877NM respectively - hardly a fair comparison to the stock vehicles given its almost double their output
The mirrors are one of the best towing inventory out there safety first every time fully adjustable great idea on a highway if you can't see behind its only a matter of time before it all goes wrong
When u try cars like a ranger. Where there is 2 different motors. A 2L bi turbo and a 3.3L Td. In what I see. The 3.2 are way better then the 2L. Pick the more popular ones
The 2.0l is actually way better at towing. There is a TH-cam of a caravan manufacturer doing a comparison with the 2 engines and the 2.0 flogs the old one. Search for it. Your jaw will drop.

My choice would have to be the ram. They forget to mention to make a 200 liveable you need a lockup kit and an aftermarket air box or uni filters to protects it from dusting its self. The ram also achieves 12 lts per 100 not towing and 20.8 when towing 3 tonne at least that is what I get back in mine. The patrols are great vehicles also they also don’t tell you the fact the gx 200 is that bare bones you don’t really wanna sit in one
the best tow vehicle I've driven is a VW Touareg TDI. Excellent fuel consumption, solid handling , great brakes, air suspension. No modifications required! Hope people take heed of the weights they are towing, there's way to many overloaded vehicles on the road. Some dual cab utes have the tow ball well over a metre behind the rear axle an MDC HFRF camper has a 280kg ball weight, not a good combination!
Typical Toyota bias.
I tow a 3.2t van and have towed it with a Colorado, 200 series and a Y62 which I have all owned. The Y62 by far is the best and it is more economical than the 200 series despite being petrol.
Yep, go stock 200 and stock Y62 and the 62 will flog the 200 every time.
Y62 is an awesome jigger all round!!
I'm not sure its Toyota bias mate as much as it is diesel bias. We have a problem in this country of immediately discounting anything that isnt a stonking big diesel.

Oh and Shaun and “ experts “, Dodge hasn’t made RAM’s for over a decade.
@@Malc664 Yes still under the FCA banner but a seperate company. Soon FCA and PSA join to become the fourth biggest automotive group in the world.

@@hampuslytz5393 yes when towing the 200 is poor on fuel. I went from a 200 to a Ram and wouldn’t go back.
Watching this from South Africa.
Can’t agree more with the results.
Spot on advice.
When giving this advice and I say it is a very good comparison you have presented, we need to remember that when towing or changing headlights people need to be reminded to re-adjust the headlight level so as not to blind on-coming traffic.
200s are really average on fuel consumption towing, wrong saying the y62 is worse.. it actually uses less fuel with way more power standard
Could you help us out with a link to this test?
@@arielle_australia sorry was too long ago. Done by a Caravan manufacturer in Victoria. They did a pull test up Mt Hotham I think.
yep its not about how well it tows a load but how well it stops with a load thats the most important

It just feels a bit baggy and worn out and is starting to develop some odd vibrations somewhere in the drive train.
And I suspect if we continue to use it the way we do, I honestly doubt it will see 200k.

This show has come a really long way, great work Graham, Shauno and the rest of the boys🤙👍🤘 I have been watching since 2010
I knew nothing about tow vehicles that are fit for purpose, nor for that matter about the finer points of towing and tips that you guys have outlined, thankyou, brilliant videos.
I see the guys mention the 3.2 having better performance compared to the 2.0 would love you guys to do a comparison between a 2.0 and 3.2 Ranger including towing test to see if Ford went forwards or backwards
Legend
Great review helped a lot
I have both the 200 and latest Hilux and you have answered all my questions
Cheers Rohan
Now you need to do a fuel test so you can see the 200 and Y62 use about the same amount and get your dyno guy to compare the standard power output
I tow a 3 tone van with a 2017 79series since new and have done 85,000 ks with a tune and going strong . still with standard clutch.
Was that Shaun smiling in a patrol?😁
With the noise coming out of that monster? Who can blame him lol
Blasphemy
Think he's smiled in Daryl a few times. .
Been keen for this vid all week
Enjoy mate!
Me too
@@4WD247 cheers mate
Bought a new 79 series Land cruiser to tow my 3 tonne caravan. I've had installed Clearview mirrors and red ark breaking system. Believe I'll wait for the engine to run in before I opt for the performance tune and updated clutch. It's not perfect, but it's what I can afford.
Fantastic video! Thanks a lot. How do you think about the G-Class or the Defender? Greetings from Germany.
Now I know why so many Navara & Pathfinder chassis have snapped in half
MY 2019 Navara has towed 3,5t for the last 2 years, 220.000km on the clock with zero faults, absolutely a dream, 100% reliable so far. With the Amarok or Ranger u can forget that. We use the Navara only for towing, so from the 220.000km its minimum 200.000km with a heavy car trailer attached, transporting cars.
Id love to have more power tho.
You guys should do a Great Wall or ldv build and put them through their paces
I agree, it looks like it could be a good budget option
Ldv t-60
Or even a Ford bronco
Great walls are shit
Ldv👌
Finally someone is doing something about the dangerous vehicles travelling our roads, now can we get the governing bodies to change the laws to suit real world use. Thanks guys for your time and efforts teaching the dangers, hopefully some start to listen.
I wish you guys would have tried the Ram 2500 with a 6.7 Cummins, I think that would have beat the rest.
Indeed. If you’re getting a Ram, such a shame not to go for the Cummins engine.
They don’t sell shit for that car
@@petercarruthers637 car? haha straight axles say otherwise ;)
@@petercarruthers637 What "shit" do you need? Mine has a free spin kit, front and rear lockers, winch bumper with a 14k winch and a tonneau cover than can handle 1,600 lbs on top of it.
@@WhyWouldYouDrawThat RAM 2500 with the Cummins 6.7 is bulletproof! RAM 3500 comes with the Aisin transmission for those who tow day in day out though the only down side is that a light rigid license is required as its capable of towing 8 tonnes.. What a BEAST!
Are you guys allowed to tow more than 3.5T in aussie? My area in Canada most of our trucks can tow 4.5T generally. (Some can exceed that with proper licensing and setup)
what about the 6 cylinder diesel Grand Cherokee, see a lot of them towing big vans
Tow 2.5 T, at 90 to 95 l use 14.7 L to the hundred .
13:17 - Power upgrade..... So basically you buy a new ute, invalidate the warranty, then tow your overweight outhouse on wheels. I think the point here is that the factory spec light 4x4s can't do anywhere near their claimed towing capacity safely. If you want to make them do this somewhat safer, say buh-bye to your warranty.
Yawn, another vid where toyota wins, because um well toyota, despite costing more and needing bulk coin spent on mods to be almost as good as a patrol.
U forgot worst load carrier capacity lower gcm i would love to see the total build cost of both 200ser and the y 62 i bet it nilly 80k more thats a shit tone of fuel
Salty 😂😂
ur patrol will be on the side of the road broken down. good luck mate
SmithsChips up the luxxies
@@lukepaton928 my n70 sr5 goes hard. shit on any patrol
So basically get a v8 Patrol, really like those vehicles.
Great value for money option with a STACK of power. Shauno
I'll stick with my swag who needs a 3 ton caravan???
Exactly. I see towing as a disability. There goes plenty of hard tracks.
I do need a 3 ton boat though
And a case of piss on ice
Haha the good old days 😍before marriage and kids 🙃
Hard tracks - still swag it, as me and the ole man will be doing next week with my kids. That’s after I tow the 3.2 ton van behind the Hemi with the family down the South Coast for a holiday💪🤘🤘. Luv our swags and we luv our 3 tonne shitter, best of both worlds for the family.
I have towed our 2t van with our 150 Prado auto, STX D40 navara manual, 79 gxl twin cab, 3.2 auto wildtrak and now our 2019 VX cruiser.
Cruiser for the win every time.
Simply no comparison.
How have you gone through that many cars
D-Max with the Y62's v8 engine would be insane.
Can you link me some y62s for 40k would like to buy one 😁👍
I think he meant you have 40k spare change in comparison to a 200series
Great vid guys, that is why nearly every caravan i see whilst driving my truck is being towed by a 200. But say you are willing to pay a bit extra. As far as utes go,a chopped 200 is a great towing tourer, but aernt cheap. So if your around that price nothing will beat the RAM 2500 for towing anything. Its a debate my mates and i love having.
Yep and there’s many ways you can go which is great!
I think so too. the 3.2L TD is better than the new 2.0L Bi Turbo
The 2.0l is actually way better at towing. There is a TH-cam of a caravan manufacturer doing a comparison with the 2 engines and the 2.0 flogs the old one. Search for it. Your jaw will drop.
Hahaha.."i can feel the petrol tank emptying " ..great vids blokes
very interesting video, result was no surprise, can't wait for my new patrol to arrive :)
The Amarok V6 does it with ease as well. I don't mug around with clutches ! ZF 8speed is excellent for towing !
Love shauno when he says “me and the experts”... at least he admits it😂
go get the cummins ram. That will tow better than any other vehicle here
it would tow every vehicle there and ask for more 👍
Just a shame the big utes prices are ramped up with import tax and conversion fees.. I'd absolutely love a 2500.. just cant afford one haha
@@mickromer6199 haha very fair
When I first heard about cryptocurrency I was not interested because my mindset was what changes will it bring to the world but when I began to carry out some deep research of what it’s all about i was more than interested because the opportunities it presents is very wide and can equally make someone wealthy. I read several posts and equally got to know about trad’ing and some exchanges that I can equally get this done. I started to buy some bitcoin early 2018 because the market outburst in December 2017 was more than enough for me to have a belief that yes cryptocurrency is here to stay. I decided to carry out some trad’ing without proper knowledge on how to trade or what trad’ing was all about and I also lack proper knowledge of how the market trends go because I was thinking that there will always be an upwards trend in the market. I invested in some coins that eventually ran out of the market in 2018 it didn’t work out the way I thought it will be , I was so sad I wanted to give up on bitcoin I stop trading for some months because of the fear of loss, I came across a TH-cam video early 2020 where I saw some individual showering praise on this trader Kristina matisic , so I contacted her.... her trad’ing signal’s are really accurate unlike any signal’s I ever have seen , he asked me few questions at first making sure if I was making profit not losing, I put confident on her I bet you her signals are unlike others, she helped me generate my 1BTC into 5BTC in on week and 2days I was so happy because I was Tired of constant losing of my coins here is her contact information Wasup : +1 (9 8 5) 2 2 7 - 4 4 3 9 for insights into trad’ing
@@mickromer6199 they’re expensive in the States, too, 1 ton trucks can cost around $100000 (US)
Nice video.
Would of been good to see the Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 turbo diesel v6 tow as well as the v6 amarok
Yes these two are great tow vehicles. We will have to include them on the next one
@@4WD247 is that with or without a samsung phone in the console
My choice would have to be the ram. They forget to mention to make a 200 liveable you need a lockup kit and an aftermarket air box or uni filters to protects it from dusting its self. The ram also achieves 12 lts per 100 not towing and 20.8 when towing 3 tonne at least that is what I get back in mine. The patrols are great vehicles also they also don’t tell you the fact the gx 200 is that bare bones you don’t really wanna sit in one
Nice job boys! To bad you didn't have the Ram with a Cummins .That's way i would go.
the best tow vehicle I've driven is a VW Touareg TDI.
Excellent fuel consumption, solid handling , great brakes, air suspension. No modifications required!
Hope people take heed of the weights they are towing, there's way to many overloaded vehicles on the road.
Some dual cab utes have the tow ball well over a metre behind the rear axle
an MDC HFRF camper has a 280kg ball weight, not a good combination!
