    Such great info here, Nick. For me, one of the biggest questions I've been trying to reconcile is why the majority of "how to grow on youtube" advice comes down to "make content people enjoy," and it's really sent me down a path of learning to understand all of the features in youtube and how things get recommended to a viewer. The most eye opening thing to me was to open a fresh browser window that wasn't signed into a google account, and doing these deep dive sessions where I'd do something like search for a topic, see where my higher performing video ranks, click it, see what else is suggested...or start at the home page, click videos in my niche and see how long it takes to start to get my content on the home or suggested feed. It really puts into perspective how competitive youtube is but also how fine tuned the recommendations are.

    • @NickNimmin
      @NickNimmin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely! And that’s a solid approach to understanding how the system works. Doing that same thing using a different browser with a fresh account, go and interact with a random channel. Watch 3 or 4 videos and then watch what happens over the next 7-30 days with that channel in your recommendations.

    It also encouraged promoting your video (lol).

    After about 1 year, I finally hit the 4,000 watch hours and 1k subscribers. I was a bit disappointed that it took this long, but at the same time, the goal I set was to reach this milestone within 1 year. It's been an uphill battle I've gotta say. I started making travel content because this is what I love doing. However, dealing with the YT algorithm and the mechanics of this platform was not really what I signed up for. I've been spending way more time focusing on how to please the algorithm than I have on making content that I enjoy creating and watching myself.
    I suppose if you want to make it on the platform, you have to play ball. Much of what Nick says is so true. I have been watching his videos a lot during my process and growth. His guidance along with some other awesome gurus has been very helpful and insightful. That said, my videos that have done the best were ones that I made without any algorithm in mind. Reached the 1k subs and 4k hours and started experiencing burnout...taking a break from it all for a few months has been therapeutic. Getting back on the YT horse now. Let's see what happens.
    Good luck to everyone. Stay committed but don't stress too much.

  • @EckieOutdoor

    Good video again Nick, thanks! For small niche channels like mine I think it is also important to look for like minded channels of the same ball park, and not try to get involved with much bigger channels and try to "pitch" and beg for likes and subs. They simply do not have the time and interest to get involved with you as a small channel. They are standing at a higher level and want acknowledgement from same sized and above. I think many small channels get frustrated they won't get response from the bigger ones and then start to doubt and even write hateful comments. That last thing is really the worst you can do.

    • @Crasher1982
      @Crasher1982 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah. One big channel (bunch of thousand subs) that is also about transforming characters like mine did write on my channel once or twice, that's it. And I wrote his too. But that's it. He simply doesn't have the time and I don't dislike him for it. I think begging is pathetic. My channel name is there. If they want to see who I'm about, they can go look. If not.....Meh.

And that when the hardest part came. My channel froze for about one year. It was very hard. At the end of the day you just have to keep going and going. Thinking how to do things differently and keep trying new things. Sooner or later you will hit the golden ratio lol now I'm just about to hit 21k subscribers. Is it any easier nooo lmao. But you keep going no matter what. If you a new content creator, you can do it. Don't give up, keep recreating yourself and your content ✨

    It's good to see what other people are doing, but it's also important to understand that not everyone is gonna like your content no matter what you do. You gotta find the line between being entertaining but not trying to be someone else.

    I'm wondering if I can get some clarification on copyright question.
    This is my private channel but I saw a competitor on my other family channel I'm growing and this person dress up and pretend they were Blippi and met him while filming a family vacation and it got them a lot of views because of it, is that a copyright issue because they are potentially making money off of someone else's fame and branding? Or is that one of those trends you can jump on and do? Can someone clarify this for me? Please and thank you!

      @NickNimmin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In this case, no. Say you were filming your holiday for a vlog and went to Disney World. So long as they permit filming, there's no issue using that footage. Copyright deals with reuse of someone else's content, whether that be video, music, images, etc.

    Question! If I'm not monetized, is there a way for me to turn off ads in the middle of my videos and just have them at the beginning/end? I have a yoga channel and a viewer just informed me that ads are playing throughout the video, but I don't see an option to change that.

    • @NickNimmin
      @NickNimmin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately not whilst you are not monetized. Once you do get into the TH-cam Partner Program, you can customize those.
