    So my first revival was a four door 69 nova! I knew the family that bought it new! They drove it until it started smoking then parked it under an oak tree, to shade it🙄 It was parked there for some 10 years! I added gas, changed the tires, and drove it home! Ran great but yep! She smoked! It was just fun! It had the original protect a plate, keys, key knock outs, ALL of the original paper work, even the plastic spark plug wire separators! That was 20plus years ago and I have long since sold it! But I worked on and had fun! What you are building is WAY COOL and saving at least what was left! Actually did everything but rebuild the engine, because it ran great! And it was fun to drive in front of Toyota’s! And smoke em!👍🏻👍🏻❤️☕️😎🇺🇸

    I am glad that who have chosen to repair this car irregardless of its condition and the rust, you are making a two door which is more popular than a four door, and many viewers frankly enjoy this content. Those who make negative comments are people who do absolutely nothing and just criticize to make them selfs feel better. Can't wait to see it finished.

    I’ve done a half dozen 2 door conversions over the years here in Canada, on all of them but one I just told the DMV that the car was no longer a four door, I had converted it to a two door and they simply changed the description on the ownership ( title) to 2 door for me . On the other one the car had been off the road for many years and I told them there was a typo on the paperwork that mistakenly identified it as a 4 door . They changed it to a 2 door no questions asked because it was such an old car ! I love what you are doing with it ! I hope you might be able to afford the roof skin , it will make the splicing of the two cars undetectable! Keep up the great work , I love seeing guys with the passion and the skills to save rotten parts cars and give them a new life!

    I love seeing people taking junk and turning it into a working car using what they have or what junk other people have laying behind the garage or in the attic. I'm bringing a 83RS humpback Carpi 302, 4 speed back to life that has been in a hay barn for 20 years. I'm a Nova guy, built my first 69 in high school and I have a few really nice car builds now, but this junk takes me back almost 50 years now when my dad and I would spend weekends at the junkyards rounding up parts to build cars. Friends have contacted me to come get mustang and carpi parts they have had in storage for years now to put this Carpi back together and I'm really enjoying a build thats far from perfect for cheap, my goal is to have a running driving 83 fox body RS humpback carpi for under $1000, car was also free. I'm retired now and lost Dad 2 years ago but I know he loved doing these kind of builds and it's how it all started for me. I guess things do come full circle in life. Awesome job so far.

    I certainly appreciate your effort and energy to teach us what is involved to do this. It's much more involved than other conversions and I hope this series generates a lot of $ for you. I've said it before, I would still like to see a tall-roof coupe made from grafting part of the rear doors onto the front doors. I guess then that door glass would be the issue. Thanks again.

    • @Shop209
      @Shop209  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks. To do that, you’d Ruth have to move the rear door jam forward so you’d be able to latch the blended doors or you’d have to cut front door in half and stretch it while moving front jam backwards and into a rear door. That would be easier. Just weld up rear door and would need two extra front doors and maybe you could get some glass from a 2 door.

    Just want to say I have been enjoying following this build. So what if its junk? It's yours to do whatever you please. Think of yourself as a pioneer in saving old novas! I can tell you these things are getting expensive if you can find one here in N.C. BTW, you are very fortunate that your laws in Georgia are not so tight. They're terrible here. I'm sure there are tons of experts out there to criticize but this is a fun build and its yours. I don't know what kind of money you're planning on putting in this car but some new sheet metal will change the car dramatically. You might decide to keep it! Best of luck with you on this.

      @@randymacsgarage all over, got the 65 GTO out of South Carolina, but that was in 2008. The 68 LeMans in Nebraska, 2014. 69 GTO in 2022 from Indiana. 68 Firebird 4 years ago about 10 miles away as the crow flies. 64 LeMans last year 35 miles away. 65 LeMans from Flint in 2011.
      People know I am looking for old Pontiacs, and they know it has to be cheap. The 65s were both $1500, everything else was under $400.
      I found the 64 on marketplace and everyone was telling him its scrap since it was sitting in the woods for 50 years. I had to dig around the hubs to get them out of the mud and lift it to put wheels on. Also had to bash the drums with a sledge until they broke so it could be moved. The rockers were about 4 inches down in the dirt.
      The frame is trash, I was concerned about pulling it in half when I winched it out of the woods, so I hooked the chains to the holes ahead of the rear suspension mounts and used a snatchblock to get it between the trees.
      Steering box is making suggestions since the frame rusted away where it mounts, which is probably the reason it was parked in 1971.
      Trunk lid is hashed, the trailing edge is simply gone, the tail panel between the quarters is rough, as is the filler panel under the glass, the floors are still in the woods, chunks stayed with the car but you can see right through it. The door locks were hammered out, but they did an interesting job of not completely trashing the doors doing it.
      Now the good parts, front fenders just need lower patches, one rocker needs replaced or patched, the quarters are savable with lower patches. The roof is ok despite the snow caving it in a bit. Really I could build it, not touch the exterior sheet metal and have a cool patina gasser. The hood is in surprisingly good shape, its not even rusted under the front lip and hte pinch welds around the glass are in much better shape than my 65 GTO was.
      I can get a convertible frame that is boxed for $1500 from a friend with a 67 GTO (and a bunch of others.) Buuuuuttt... I am thinking Jegster chassis kit, Speedway straight axle, and I have a 9" rear set up for ladder bars and narrowed to fit in an early bird / nova / ventura.
      What is scrap to others, is a cool project to me. I have a sawzall, mig welder, some hammers, and spare time, so I can fix about anything.
      Rust doesn't bother me, it looks under its bed for me every night..

    I'm guessing that in most places, if anyone were to question it, just saying "I converted it to 2-door" would be good enough (especially if you had pics/video). People have been doing this conversion to Tri-Fives for decades, and it's never been an issue. And these days, 6-door truck conversions are a thing. Nearly every 6-door Excursion out there is titled as a pickup truck, since the easiest way to do the conversion is grafting the Excursion rear body onto a crew-cab Super Duty cab.

  • @justincooper5189
    @justincooper5189 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So what I'm seeing/hearing, is that if you're going to do this, the best way to do that would be to order new quarters and a new roof skin. Since you have to peel the roof back a little for the frame welding, a new roof would give it that finished look and obviously the quarters would need to be replaced because of the body lines not matching. Maybe you could show the troopers these videos to also help keep your butt out of the fryer.lol they might be either fans of yours, or they might become fans.

I'm wanting to go without a vent window just for a slight custom look. I know Apollo doors are welded on and 68 Nova are bolted on. I know interiors are different. But my unknown is... pop the pins off on the Apollo doors and use bolt on hinges to install on the 68. Am I crazy to think it will work?? Just wanted to see what you think.

      The windshield on a 4 door is taller by about 1.5 inches.

    Don't replace the quarters or roof. patch them up with random cut off sheet metal grind the welds down and let it rust. The car being rough and rusted is why its so cool!!!

Im looking for a tire to run on my 78:Nova i want old school big wide tires we use to buy N 50s soft compound tires back in the 80s now days the sizes are different I don't want low profile i m looking for big side wall wide tires 15 inch rims

      I THINK the old N50 is about a 295/50/15. I have ran them on 68-74 novas and on 2nd gen Camaros but they’re really close. They may fit better on a 75-79.

    Question. How far are you going to go? I would love to see this thing totally made beautiful with paint and interior. Very entertaining and interesting to watch this metamorphosis just to prove it can be done. You are the Nova Man!

      I’m not sure. It’s quite a bit of work and money. I’m gonna keep working on it though. I’d like to paint it but might not be real nice.
