I've been doing rotisserie restorations for many many years, I love seeing the way people do things. Great stuff! BTW, I did a Black widow concourse tribute restoration. It will probably never be driven.
I remember doing things like this, cutting doors and lowering roofs with model cars. Dremel, small saw, sanding and plastic putty. Your imagination was the limit. I just didnt continue on to real cars. I did work in a fab shop, just vacuum forming plastics to molds, and laminating to molds under a vacuum using carbon fiber and other layups, hammering out metal to drawings. Great work. I love things like this. It does get my fab juices flowing. I run 1/5 scale gas RC vehicles.
This is grass roots hotrodding in it's purest form. Ugly grandma's more door into a sexy two door in an evening or two. Great tutorial. Proves that this is really doable in the home shop. Thanks for this!
Brings back some memories. When I was a kid, my dad had a 2 door hardtop Bel-Air, 4 door hardtop Bel-Air, 68 Chevelle and 67 CST Chevy truck. I literally cried the day he sold the 57’s.
Your use of the plentiful 4 door parts to build the post area in this build will be the most useful portion to me. The two 57 post cars I have were doomed to be parts cars and need a lot of work. Thanks for keeping it simple.
All the guys up in Canada just make the car the way it should be. 4 door chevy no problem just cut and weld. Bad Chad says big gap no problem just use a coat hanger and a Mig it will fill up. Coat hanger is just a welding rod. It sure does look 100X better being a two door. Your doing it really perfect this time. You getting better and better. If it works is it wrong? I thing it looks good.
As I've stated before in the lives i try to get in on most of them been busy lately im 6'10 400lbs and I 2 dr swapped a 56 and I made custom doors just as showen here but I add 10" instead of the standard 6.5 its now my favorite hotrod to drive as getting in and out is very easy looks a bit goofy but I dont care
Better keep some of those doors. Might be where wagons were a few years ago. I have a 4 door Bel-air that still has the 265 and Powerglide. 60,000 miles. Too nice to cut up.
Love it Dan how you are showing us how we can make something with the parts you have keep up the amazing work god bless to you and your family can't wait to see what's next
I am excited to see what this one looks like. Thank you for taking the time to give a quick overview of what it takes to do the 4 to 2 door conversion.
Great video. Working with less and creating more. Very inspiring. I'd love to see you do a series of videos completing while using the "both doors" method, including lengthening the tracks and such. Then be really cheap and do another series of videos whereby you convert without any donor parts. Us frugal car builders love your work!!!
I did exactly the same thing with a 66 Pontiac Parisienne post model, as here in Australia back in the day they only had 4 door post and 4 door hardtop model. I wanted a 2 door post and couldn't afford to import one so I built one out of my 4 door. I went through as Dan, only I used convertible doors(because thats all I could find and afford) and took the window frames off my old doors and modified them to fit. Worked out well with a bit of thinking and a lot of patience and a lot of measuring especially with an almost $0 budget, LOL.
@@DDSpeedShop I posted a before and after pictures on your Facebook post. The conversion wasn't as hard as i thought it would be having said that being in Australia I had to import 2 convertible doors which was cheaper than importing a whole car, anything else i needed I either made or converted to fit. I love the fact that you've shown people how to do a conversion. I wish I had made video's of what i did to my car, but i did take hundreds of photo's. Now I most likely have the only 66 2 door post Pontiac in Australia. Well here's hoping anyways!. Lol.
I have heard of this being done, but first time watching it. Really cool. Makes me wonder now how many 2 door tri 5's started life with 4 doors. Thanks for teaching an old dog a new trick.
Lookin good Dan, Really enjoy your channel. I'm one the viewers that has been waiting for this build since I first saw the car in the field. P.S. DON"T give this one away.... lol..
D & D, Dan, I am envious of your enthusiasm, well, maybe not, when I was in my twenties I had the same enthusiasm, just a FYI(sure you know), the original Black Widow had a pickup suspension correct? So it had 6 lug wheels.....Be safe.....GOD BLESS!!!
Dam Dan you are a good craftsman making 4dr to 2dr cars not to mention you make it look so easy and I know it's not I'm building a 72 short bed Chevy truck and a long bed 71 Chevy C/10 and I've been working my but off but I'm just learning how to weld just got a decent welder with argon bottle
If I can't find a 2 door I will do a 4 door to 2 door conversion between you and the guy on make it custom I got alot of ideas on how to do it the best way possible. Thanks Dan Rick427.
Great job as usual Dan. You make this look so easy, but we all know it is not. Really been looking forward to you working on this car, as my 1 57 Chevy was a 150 Gasser. I was just a kid at 20 years old. That was 40 years ago. So this really brings back fond memories. Can't wait to see the next video. Really looking forward to the whole series. Thanks for entertaining us.
I can tell you have experience in doing these 4 to 2 door conversions. I had a completely different idea on how to lengthen the doors and see the obvious genius in how you did yours. I really want to try it on something here but TriFive's are expensive here in the states. Maybe I'll try it on something else. Nice job.
@@SirGregg I was thinking about sectioning in part of the back door to the front door to get the extra length. I've never tried doing it and don't know if it would work or not but after seeing how Dan did his, that's probably how I'd do it now
Some people are born with golden hands, and a brain that makes those hands golden! Much Respect!!
Give yourself some credit.. I gave you 27 minuets watching a video about something I'll never, ever do, just for pure enjoyment. Keep it up.
There is definately an enjoyment factor watching Dan.
Same here

Thanks! I appreciate that

Great work, reminded me so much of Picasso during his Chevrolet period in the 1920’s.
You sir, are a craftsman. Making it happen and sharing how to do it with the world!
I wish I had half your energy, ambition and skill.
I'm not great at anything haha
I’m truly amazed, that this could even be done. Fun too watch. Also great music.
This is so fun to see , never tire of this.

Talented man here folks! Never fail to impress Dan, u truly the man! Gonna be a cool ol tri 5!!!
Thanks! Yeah im excited to build this one
This is how I thought you were gonna do the one you did years ago. I didn't know then how people do it. good to know. Thanks for the demonstration!
What a great tip. Never would have thought of that. The people selling tri 5 doors for $400 and up, are gonna hate you!

While a 4 door anything has no market value anywhere near even the most anemic 2 door, if it's valuable to the owner, then enjoy it.
Another masterpiece in the works by the DD Speed Shop Team! Nice work Dan and Dani can't wait to see the end results!
Thanks!
I dig all your projects. You should finish Dani's car while your at. I think she'd like that. Take it easy🐾
1 at a time
Two door will be awesome you'll make it happen Dan.
You are quite knowledgeable on these tri-five conversions. Take it to the next level and convert a wagon to a Nomad, or a sedan into a convertible.
You can tell you’ve done this several times. Great job!!!
Although I'm too broke to build REAL tri-fives, I can use this info to correctly build my plastic tri-five models as they SHOULD be built!!
It's just that easy! Hey Dan I love that phrase.
A two lane blacktop 55, and a black widow 57. You're living the dream Dan!
Dang you work fast Dan,and you do a good job too.
Love it Dan how you are showing us how we can make something with the parts you have keep up the amazing work god bless to you and your family can't wait to see what's next

Now you got me thinking of turning my 4 door 55 wagon into a 2 door sedan delivery
Damn you Dan! 😂
First cut is the hardest....

Easy to tell if the original body tag is still on the cowl. 4 door sedans had a 57-1219 or 57-1019 body style number.
Thanks Ken!
