Focus ST is the only hatchback that I have owned because it's the only one that looks good enough to own. The golf is too bland, the civic is too small, the veloster is too ugly, the Chevy sonic/spark is too weak. It was a clear choice from the beginning, the ST wad the way to go for me.

Well I actually own a 2017 focus ST. It has every mod except for replacing the factory turbo. Literally. It surprises a lot of people as to how quick the car actually is. And yes it is absolutely loud in your face and awesome to daily drive. Scares puppy dogs and little old ladies and as a 50-year-old Combat veteran that’s just fine with me.

I've owned 2015 gti and currently own a 2014 St. The gti has a much nicer interior than the st even though mine is the st3. The focus has a nicer outside and a better driving experience. Love both but id go with the gti

I think GTi is still the benchmark. I own a MK7 GTi Stage 2. I’m an adult 34 years old. I use it for my daily and it’s on BC Coils. I think if I was young 17-23 years old a ST is prob more fun. But if you care about refinement and more grown up GTi is a lot better choice. Both are good cars.

great video but the thing is the ST is completely rocked out with modifications where the GTI is much more subtle which makes it a big difference if you were to then completely mod out the GTI then it would be more of an even playing field....i own a Mk4 GTI myself and i can tell you the GTI modified correctly will give the ST a run for its money

Id go with the GTI between these. Only because in my opinion smaller is better. The focus is a big car compared to the gti. Thats the same reason i would choose a Fiesta ST over the Focus ST- and I did. But if interior quality is a big concern, keep this in mind- the Fiesta ST interior makes the Focus ST interior feel nice.. its a special kind of cheap plastic when you get into a fiesta.
It can be nice, but it takes a lot of added sound deadening and modifying door handle covers that should have been attached firmly from the factory- that sort of thing.

Hey! Quick question... I’ve been watching all of the Opposite Lanes episodes and you guys never show over the interior of the vehicles. Is this due to them being individuals vehicles and they have personal belongings in them? As in this one you talk about the sunken in knobs in the GTI but we don’t see anything you speak of. Just a suggestion to do an overview of interior of the vehicles too, as in video overview.

I would only disagree about reliability. Pretty sure they are even. This was the 3rd gen of the Focus ST globally. Not sure what you are talking about in reference to that. They just have a different driving philosophy. Focus ST is on it's 4th gen as we speak in europe. The St community has been alive since the early 2000s. It's not new nor small. Focus, Fiesta and Mondeos have had st variants in some cases for more than 2 decades now.
