Battle of the hot hatches, the 2013 Ford Focus ST is definitely more fun to drive, but it does not inspire confidence and it is slowing in every metric, 0-60, quarter mile and around the track. Watch and find out :-)
As much as I hate to give it to the GTI it's indeed a better all arounder. The Focus is just too niche and too specific because of its manual only decision. I like that when I see a Focus ST I know he/she is shifting the gears themselves instead of having to try and peak and see if they are using an auto/manual transmission.

I understand you have an ST and you were "comparing" the two because you already know what the ST feels like, but it would be nice to split the video between driving in the GTI/ST. Not hating, I really enjoyed the comparison. Helps a lot since I'm in the market.

People buy the FoST because it is a driver's car. The Mk3 (pre-2015 like mine) models were more raw, more juvenile, and the Mk3.5 (post 2015 models) were actually toned down and refined, to appeal to a broader audience. I have always appreciated the GTI (well, the ones with a manual anyways), but they are VERY common compared to the ST. Even the Subaru WRX is a lot more common to see on a daily basis, vs the ST. Sure, the ST has its share of drawbacks, not unlike any car for that matter. The Ecoboost engines are fully capable of decent fuel economy (but that is relative to ones love of torque, which the ST has everywhere), and they are also capable of reliability and longevity (keep out of the boost until the engine oil and turbo are upto temp first, then you are good to go). The ST is more than just it's engine and the Recaro seats. It has unique chassis and suspension design and tuning, and an assortment of upgraded parts over the regular Foci.

Exterior designs are a subjective thing. If I’m a teenager or in my 20’s then I would consider a “loud” looking car. I think older GTI owners embrace the subdued design knowing the performance and heritage is top notch for its price.
For sure, the ST is definitely a bit more aggressive. GTI much more refined and grown up. The ST sits right in the middle between boy racer and the most practical with the GTI.
So I'm not alone about the ST looking more aggressive ok great.
I think the GTI has set the standard for the best hot hatch look. Just a clean classic look over the generations.

Focus st is sport tuned to rotate and attack corners
If it has better suspension for corners I’d rather get the ST for autocross or track days. If I wanted a utility vehicle I’d get some other trim focus or golf

Are you referring to the actual volume of the interior?
In terms of passenger volume the GTI has 3.5 more cubic feet than the ST has.
no way the focus st is cramped, the gti has more room especially for the driver.

VW GTI of course.
Much more refined, but in my opinion not as "fun" of course that's my opinion. If you want fast and tight handling the GTI's chassis is much better.

The golf does more better than the focus but the focus does one thing better than the golf. The golf is a more well rounded car. The focus is the hot girl at the party that gets by on her looks. What makes her interesting is only skin deep. The golf is the cute quiet girl in the corner that gets attention by being attractive AND smart.

Those numbers for the st are way too low. A stock focus st definitely has higher whp and torque than that.
I've seen many different arguments about COBB's results. Here is another that states similar numbers to what I'm referring to: th-cam.com/video/z5_NcsRb9fw/w-d-xo.html. Honestly, I want to run the dyno sheets myself so I can see a difference. I'm not big enough yet, but maybe eventually something I do in the future.
Derrick Moy I have my own stock dyno sheet that says 237WHP on stock tune. Cobb low balled that video for advertising purposes
I've seen stock dyno's here on youtube that have shown higher hp/tq than his numbers.. and if he has a stage 1 tune then he should be significantly higher than he stated. Derrick Moy you need to get those in for a dyno man!
GTI vs ST is not fair to the ford. It's like comparing a 350z to a 911.
