All great remakes but i must say im definitely most impressed with sh2. Atmosphere, sound and town design are on another level. And so much details. Impressive work
Another things that I will say about what makes Silent Hill 2 Remake better than the other two in regards to performance and voice acting, Silent Hill 2 Remake knocked it out of the park with that one and deserves a point. Luke Roberts's performance as James Sunderland was excellent and perfect with the emotions, expressions, tone, everything. Luke Roberts deserves an award for his performance on James Sunderland.
SH2 was the best at recapturing the original's story, music, cut scenes, dialogue atmosphere, backgrounds, sound effects. Felt like the developer remade the game without too many changes. RE was changed too much, including changing character personalities
I would of enjoyed SH2R if the optimization wasn't so trash on PC. It's still an amazing game , DS too, but RE2R set the standard for modern day remakes of super old titles
One thing that definitely struck me about the Dead Space remake (having never played the original), was that it FELT like a game made in the late 2000s. It did kinda feel dated, and I can only imagine it was a like for like remake. Whereas RE2 felt like it was completely redesigned from the ground up.
RE2 is my favorite one: better characters, pacing, gameplay and replay value. The other two are good too, but SH2 is a bit too long and have some pace issues (prison and labyrinth segments are kinda drag) while DS i didn't find the characters and overall plot interesting, also not the most diverse environments
Another thing I love about Silent Hill 2 Remake and what makes it better to me is throughout the game, you can see James deteriorate and look more fatigued and tired, whereas Claire and Leon in Resident Evil 2 Remake doesn't show that and I don't think Dead Space Remake has that either.
@erzatitaniawins exactly. I noticed it as well. And another thing on what makes Silent Hill 2 Remake better than Resident Evil 2 Remake (Dead Space, I can't really talk about it because I never seen the game) is the music score. The music score in Silent Hill 2 Remake has excellent timing when it comes to scenes and the enemies and bosses like you've mentioned in your review of it, whereas Resident Evil 2 Remake kind of lacks that. And Silent Hill 2 Remake score is better because it feels more survival horror and it mostly has an updated modern versions of the original soundtrack, which I loved. Resident Evil 2 Remake lacks the original score with it's updated modern versions.
I don't mind that RE2R doesn't have the zapping system. I do wish they ditched the B scenarios and just had Claire and Leon's campaigns be two sides of one story.
After watching a playthrough of Silent Hill 2 Remake, which gave me a movie experience of the game, I noticed something that no one sees but me and that is Ethan Winters and James Sunderland are very similar. Both are civilians, are inexperienced in defending themselves, and had to learn to defend themselves in situations on their own. In Coldshade's movies of Resident Evil 7, Village and Shadows of Rose, this is present in these game movies he did. Both had to go through hell so much, you actually feel bad for the characters. Ethan got stabbed, lost limbs, impaled by attacks. He endured a lot of damage. And which comes to another character that Ethan is similar to and that is Michael Myers from Halloween. The similarities they share are quite interesting when I watched both things. Hell, the similarities between John Wick and Ethan Winters are interesting. I dive deep into these similarities in my analysis of these characters. I'm surprised no one notices these things like I do. I feel so bad for James Sunderland because not only did Laura step on his hand, but people yell at him and try to kill him and such. Even the enemies and families want to kill Ethan Winters as well. Which another similarity between Ethan and James is their voices are almost similar, even the grunt sounds they make but have different voice actors. Reminds me of both characters. And this is why Ethan Winters is a great character to me because without him existing in Resident Evil, I wouldn't love John Wick, Michael Myers and James Sunderland as I do now. My love for Ethan Winters drew me to those three characters. I wouldn't go in depth with them. So that's what makes me appreciate the Ethan Winters character a lot. And from what I've seen, I feel that Silent Hill 2 Remake is hands down the best Remake I've seen in general and it's one of my favourites. I like everything about it. And you are right about the sound in the Silent Hill 2 Remake game. I've been watching a playthrough of it with my earphones and it sounds really good and well done.
@zombieartig i know, but I find Ethan and James very similar a lot. Even Harry Mason and Ethan are similar. I feel that Henry Townsend are similar as well to how they dress.
I think in terms of just playability factor Resident Evil 2/3/4 remake takes the cake. They are simply the more fun of the three franchises. Dead Space leans heavily on atmosphere and jump scares, Silent Hill relies on atmosphere and tension and not letting you breath and RE games are more straight forward action hero type games. I think the RE engine has a lot to do with this. It's snappy, well optimized and playing Re4 remake right after Silent Hill 2 remake is a night and day difference in terms of fluidity of animations, character model fidelity ,framerates, etc. I'm not shitting on SH2 remake. It's incredible. I do hate unreal engine, though. It's clunky and ugly in my opinion. Resident Evil is just a better video game to me
If remaining over the shoulder is a point for dead space remaining true to source material. Then over the shoulder for RE2 is a point for new editions. Just stating facts here
Dead Space Remake follows the original beat for beat without sacrificing anything. That's why I gave it the point. If RE2 was getting an edge for OTS then that would also be true of Silent Hill 2 so RE2 wouldn't win that by default. Unfortunately I was looking for something more on the line with what Resident Evil Remake added with Lisa Trevor and Crimson Heads which are both iconic. Now if they added both perspectives then that might change my perception.
I'll preface my comment by saying on principle, I don't like the remake trend, and I think the resources spent on these titles could and should have been new games. We really need new games. That said, on the category of New Additions, it should be noted Dead Space added the zero gravity mechanic from DS2, which was wise, since their original way was a little janky. But while Dead Space and SH2 are basically the same as we remember, I'd argue RE2 Remake is the only one of these 3 that is for all intents and purposes, an entirely new experience. The change in perspective really is the key new addition, and even if the plot beats are familiar, things like the new gas station opening, more Marvin, a totally new Orphanage section for Sherry, locations like the lab having a completely different layout, and even how Mr X is used compared to the original (now he's Jack Baker from RE7) are significant updates to RE2's design philosophy. So even though all 3 games are well made, a case can be made that Silent Hill and Dead Space were ultimately unnecessary, whereas Resident Evil 2 justifies its existence. Which is why it's so well regarded, and responsible for every studio trying to copy the remake trend now. It's also got new DLC!
I'm not arguing against you but unfortunately in terms of new additions I just can't give it to RE2R for perspective because if that were the case I would also have to give it to Silent Hill 2 Remake as well. Just having new things doesn't mean their good. I don't have a problem with the gas station opening but I am not writing home about it. I did like Marvin but the Orphanage is not something that I remotely care about. I can understand Mr. X. Ghost Survivors is just something i played for a little while but didn't really care to much about it. Now if they did what I believe they should have done and have DLC or an unlocked scenario and show how Ada got out of Raccoon City then RE2R would have won new additions easily. I was looking for new things such as new impactful enemies similar to Lisa Trevor and the Crimson Heads since there are a lot of enemies cut from RE2R. Yeah I wish we had more new games in all of these franchises but if remakes can get people back in them(More in Silent Hill and Dead Spaces cases) then I have no problem as long as new game can come as well. Unfortunately for Dead Space remake it didn't sell enough for EA to continue with it and I have been watching SH2R to see if it has legs after selling a million in a few days.
I love how Resident Evil 4 Remake isn’t even in the list. 😂 Resident Evil 2 Remake is obviously the best remake. All 3 are great, but RE2 is the reason we are getting all these high quality remakes. It took the old game, stuck to what was good and reinvented it.
resi did it first. Others joint the trent. nothing more. They all play kinda the same. But its fun that this is the new "survival Horror" nothing to compare i think
All great remakes but i must say im definitely most impressed with sh2. Atmosphere, sound and town design are on another level. And so much details. Impressive work
RE3 graphics are top tier

Silent hill 2 then re 2 and then dead space. They’re all amazing though
I liked how SH2R fleshed out the town, def made it feel like a place people actually lived and breathed in
RE2 blew it out of the water, hands down my top remake. the others are in no way bad whatsoever either, all 3 top tier horror games.
RE3 got best graphics.
I mean if you like inconsistency, streamlined, basic replayabilty, and dog shit story telling. Yea sure man.
@WheeledHamster Dang not a fan of re2 huh? I'm curious which game would you say is the best?
Resident Evil 4 for gameplay, SH2 for story and and atmosphere, DS for the jump scares
That's a good way of putting it.

@@iamethanjameswinters I cheat because I just listen to the original version or RE2 when playing the remake including the sound effects.
@erzatitaniawins that's cool. At least, you'll have it while playing Resident Evil 2 Remake, which is good.
RE2. It is also the most hyped remake ever before remaking became a thing
Faaaaack im gonna be a coward and call it a 3 way tie
they below RE3 remake, RE3 got best graphics.

The trifecta of Horror game Remakes 🔥
if only the new RE remakes stayed true to the original the same way SH2 and Dead Space did
I think in terms of just playability factor Resident Evil 2/3/4 remake takes the cake. They are simply the more fun of the three franchises. Dead Space isn't a remake, it should be considered as remaster, just like The Last of Us Part I, therefore it doesn't deserve any amount of praise
They added so many new things tho
RE2 remake is the best of em all without a doubt
Noit iznt bestvof em all iz silent hill 2 renake
@@ghostofwar5430 you are so funny, you deserve an award
Re2 remake is awesome but the re4 remake is the goat. I haven't played Dead Space remake or Silent Hill 2 remake yet.

SH2 is by far the worst, and a terrible game in general.
