!This is a re upload! The original video was age restricted and ad limited because of a single shot of a SHHC nurse. So I censored the offending issue and reuploaded the video. If you already watched that one, there's nothing new here.
Doesn’t matter. Totally gonna watch it again. Wouldn’t be my first time. Or second for that fact. Every couple of months I stop and relisten to large chunks of your catalogue.
Sorry to hear that mate but I'm happy you could get up a version that everyone can find and watch. Nothing new u say? I'll just have to watch it again to make sure 🙂 sláinte!
I swear i got the first silent hill in a proper creepypasta sounding way; was buying some ps1 games from a charity shop (i was around 7 or 8), one of these purchases was a cracked box of Driver 2. However, after buying it, i looked in and there were 2 discs, Driver 2, and... Silent Hill! It terrified me, moved me and is the sole reason I love horror in the way I do, and came completely unwanted into my life at first
I accidentally took the first silent hill disc home from my biological fathers, the last time I seen him. Got a game about looking for a child, by getting abandoned by my dad 🤣 I honestly find humor in the irony.
I got Disney infinity 1 in a creepy pasta way, a couple years back I wanted to buy it again for nostalgia purposes from my local gaming store and when I asked how much it costed (there was no price tag), I was told I could have it for free if I "never brought it back"
18:31 You can still purchase Silent Hill 1 on the PS3 as a PS One Classic title. This can also be downloaded to a PSP. It’s a 294 MB file. This is sadly the only physical SH I’m missing.
Or you can also download some custom firmware like ark-4 and infinity, and download the eboot file of sh1 and play it on your psp… all for free, and I think this is the only way to play it now as the ps3 store is shutdown (I think ?)
These games mean so much to so many people… I will never understand why Konami would choose to make people bend over backwards to play these when they could be printing free money with competent re-releases
Because they fell to the western type game back in the mid 2000's just like Capcom did with Resident Evil 5 and 6. I'm glad they both seem to be back on track nowadays, seeing as Resident Evil modern Remakes so far have been good (even RE 3 with all the cut and replaced content personally) and Konami with Silent Hill 2 Remake having part of the one team overseeing Bloober Team and MGS Delta.
@angel.3006 Lol falling to western ways is a bullshit statement. Japanese companies need to do more following because Japanese games are so far behind it is unreal. Also if you think any of the RE remakes or 7 and 8 are Eastern type of games then you are really clueless. Finally having any faith in Bloober team on making a good reamke you are very misguided. They have had 2 solid games and they were walking sims Layer 1 and 2. Sind then they have done a very mediocre The Median, and absolute awful Blair Witch, and a laughable "remake" of LoF 1 and 2. Really the only Japanese devs to have any faith in are Fromsoftware and Square every once in a while or basically only when it comes to Final Fantasy and capcom. Konami just realesed that god awful Metal Gear collection so I am unsure where your faith in them is being restored. Lastly, if you will notice that all of the good Japanese devs are making very heavy Western influenced games with western mechanics
You can argue that they were inspired by western studios in 5/6/7/8 @@SPG8989and Bloober is an uninspiring studio choice. Definitely more than fromsoft and square who are good though and it's pretty stupid to say souls series are western inspired when they are genre defining
I really will always think you can just play the first 3 or 4. Everything after that is where you start to see pyramid head come back every game because he's the spooky guy now
The words Silent Hill had no meaning after 4, and 4 was stretching it. After 3 really, the people that were Silent Hill all but left. Konami, that thing that gave money to the people who conceived Silent Hill, wanted new games to fill the void. They called those games "silent hill". Those games were made by people with zero and thin understanding of the series. How could they understand when the original team wasn't there to explain it? Their job was to make horror games with the words Silent Hill on them so that people would buy them. They took their little ideas of what a Silent Hill game should be, and regurgitated all these non Silent Hill games that were called Silent Hill. Team Silent did a lot of research and development to understand what they were making, and they made it pure. After 3, these other people just knew that silent hiLL needs monsters, and that is all they thought they needed. You can stick the words Silent Hill on any old game that some randos made, but the purpose of the words on the tin are to milk the series than representing what the meaning of what Silent Hill ever was. And people know, and the scores reflect it, as do the sales. As do the the writers of Silent hill, which finished their games when it was time for them to end at Silent Hill 3. You can't blame Konami for being an awful greedy corporate sloth for milking its dead franchise.
@Walamonga1313 when silent hill 2 has 3 times the enemy variety as any game they brought pyramid head back to imma start to hate seeing him. Hot take. Never was that cool anyways that's why he's not the main focus of silent hill 2
Notes about SH1 versions: -PS3 version has a LOT of noticeable bugs. Dialogue cuts out in certain cutscenes, the final area bugs out gun sfx to not exist and even causes an ear-piercing ring when shooting certain enemies. In addition, the motion blur effect causes heavy unintentional ghosting that looks like burn-in. For the most part this option is decent, but it requires conscious workarounds that ruin the immersion, especially in the later half of the game. The PS3 emulation for this game has always been wonky and hasn’t ever been fixed. -Duckstation (a PS1 emulator for PC) is the best way to play SH1 due to the optional enhancements, but with the polygon fixes on, it causes the game to freeze at the church cutscene. There is an easy fix, just turn off the enhancements before that cutscene then turn it back on after. Plus it has the upside of not having to drop too much money on a bunch of physical hardware.
You probably won't remember. But we had a conversation over twitter a couple years ago about this same subject matter, you helped me enter the world of silent hill and I'll be forever grateful for that. Thank you man 👍
What Team Silent has achieved with SH3 on the PS2 is more than impressive, in my eyes, it even puts games like God Of War or the Resident Evil 4 port in the shade. Facial animation, lighting, and shadows are absolutely unique on the console, and all this back in 2003! ps GREAT VIDEO!
Sadly even though I loved the PS2 growing up nowadays I wish they had put a Xbox port out as well since hooking up a PS2 to a modern TV is like wearing someone else's prescription glasses and the silent hill hd collection is broken and unauthentic. Just sucks that some of those gems I remember as a kid are locked as PS exclusives even on newer hardware. Might have to track down a launch PS3 with the PS1&2 hardware to see if there's a big difference cleaning up PS2 games

I was just searching for silent hill 2 on eBay for the ps2 about 30 minutes ago and now this is recommended to me 22 minutes after it was uploaded. Crazy coincidence.
That's not a coincidence. Almost every site you visit uses some Google service - adsense, analytics, fonts, what have you - that allows Google to track your surfing behavior.
I had silent hill 1 on my ps1 when i was young but never managed to finish it. 15 years ago i Found a ps1 console in good condition and bought it for a cheap price. I bought the game on eBay and hooked it up on my old tv monitor and finaly finished sh1 before i turned 30🤣 great game❤
Step-dad got me this, RE5 and an assortment of similarly relevant at the time games, all at once. I'm still fans of these franchises through thick and thin, clunky games to classics (RIP), and am psychologically obligated to finish them all before I go too, for my sister
Man I still remember the HD collection fondly. It was terrible, but it was my first experience with SH. I still loved the story so much that I played it to get every ending. One day though I found every copy of the originals in a small kiosk. Got em pretty expensive and then I could never go back. The original copies are some of the greatest games of all time, specially on hard difficulty for SH3
I know what you mean, the originals when I had them were the most stable best looking versions of sh2&3 I had ever played. When I had the HD collection I still found the new voice actors fun and the characters models beautiful, everything else like the environment and monsters were done poorly. The bugs that the patch for the ps3 version tried to fix still didn’t fix much. Not a big problem for me though if I have the original versions. I miss my collection so much 😢
if only you experienced the original silent hill 2 i remember plahying in 2005 i was only 5 at the time and it scared the hell out of me i just playrd about 40 minutes of it earlier today and it still give me chills
My Dad and step-mom let me get a game one weekend I was visiting yeaaaars ago and I got Catherine as well as the HD Collection. My PS2 had long been retired by then and I wanted to play some SH2 and 3. By far the most egregious thing about the HDC is that when you leave the map in 2, the screen stays dark as if you're still loading out of the map, but the game still runs so you can get killed while waiting for your vision to come back. Other than that, it did the job well. Still wish I coulda had the original voices for 3
I can feel your love for this game man.... I am the same, and yesterday was thinking, there wasn't any decent silent hill video around, and here we are, keep doing them whenever u can ,silent hill is and forever will be one of the best games of all times, GG!
It's funny, I've been itching to get back into the Silent Hill games recently as I've played most of them (1-3, Origins, Homecoming, & Downpour), but never actually beaten them (except for SH 2 & Homecoming) and then your video pops up in my TH-cam feed. I gotta say, I found your video to be quite informative as I've owned my copies of SH 2 & 3 for about 22 years now and had no idea that both games had a secret settings menu on the PS2. Now I just need to mod my PS2 with a HDMI port (I'm currently using the PS2 Pound HDMI cable to play games on my HDTV, but it makes these games a bit too dark even with the brightness maxed out) and I'll be set to go :P.
I remember playing Silent Hill 1 on my Vita and then playing it again on my PS3. Something I noticed on the Vita that wasn't present anywhere else was when accessing doors. It would freeze the frame and then after a while load into the next room, without ever dimming the screen and blacking out as it originally should.
Yo thank for reminding me about the ps vita. I had resident evil 2 and 3 classic on there and to know I can play the first silent hill on there is amazing. Thank you so much
Hello everyone, for the sound bug in in the original PC port of silent hill 2 you have to go in the control panel and set the affinity of the game in only one core of your processor. Back when the game was made they didn't account for multiple core processors at that time.
Very well done video, excellent research and production. Being older and a lifelong game player plus having a degree in Film & Video with a minor in 3-D animation. . . I fully agree with you. The Silent Hill game series is a timeless classic. It's probably one of my favorites ever since I played the first game SO long ago on my PS1 when younger. Will re-watch your video to learn to recapture that original experience before plunking down money on Ebay for a PS1 and original game disc. (Pretty pricey.) Thanks again.
Your channel deserves more views dude, I'm about same age and its nostalgia AF watching your stuff, plus you go into so much detail that you don't get from any other channel.
I have a PS3 (slim) by my side running Silent Hill 1 in 1080p. Your image is softer due to configuration (if you press PS home button in a PS1 game, you see some options, including changing memory cards in game, and this image softer), if you remove that, it would looks better than PS Digital.
This video is gold, its just plain opitinion of a well informed user who is looking from best way to play the game without technical crazy info on board. Thanks!
I was looking for this video last week and didn't find it, just when I got some space to install some og games, the video dissappeared Glad you re-uploaded it! This helps not letting this gems to be forgotten
I remember trying to play Silent Hill on my PS3 which was the generation that had the PS1 & PS2 chips built-in. Every time you'd fire the gun the sound would shift to a sustained high pitch static that would cease with the next fire. This was early into getting that PS3 though, so maybe software updates fixed this issue.
I played it and finished it on PS3 with 0 issues. I got the digital version that they sold on the PSN store so I don't know if that one has any difference when compared to the original physical release.
@@ThoArtOne Yes it is, I beat the entirety of SH2 on an emulator and I had not only a perfect experience, but also one with 4k resolution and anisotropic filtering, as well as custom save states and instant loading
I think that the plot twist is one reason Shattered Memories for being named a Silent Hill is mostly aimed for returning players. Since they are familiar with the characters, town and story. If it was just named Shattered Memories most players would be able to figure out the twist. Movies has used it several times. However I think it could have been a proper Silent Hill game with original characters, also with including the end twist still be a nice experience. That if there were actual puzzles and better combat.
There was difference regarding Silent Hill 4 that I noticed you missed, it is nothing too major to impact the gameplay in a positive way but on the PS2 there were exclusive apartment haunts that were not on any other release of Silent Hill 4, Recently someone made it possible for such exclusive haunts to be on PC via the same site you brought up when it comes to fixes in general. Loved seeing this as well and thank you for making this in the detailing you have as it also reminds me on how there are multiple and different version of Snatcher with censorship and edits.
As for me, the best way to play the original Silent Hill outside from having a CRT and a PS1 has to be using an emulator specifically duck station and using the crtlottes Shader on top of it. Not only does it add a filter that looks like an old CRT screen, but it also warps the screen to make it look like that curved CRT tube TV display. So you get the CRT filter and you get the screen warp as well and it looks so convincing and is play better than any other CRT filter out there that just adds lines or something. I grew up on CRTs and that's got to be the most convincing one I've seen
Yeah an emulator like duckstation and a crt filter is the best way to play if you don't want to go down a rabbit hole of spending time and money trying to achieve perfect authenticity. It will get you at least 90% of the way there with very little fuss, the crt filters do a great job of blending the dithering effects too.
What really makes SH1 cool to me is that it feels like a PS2 game in terms of scope, gameplay, and story, just with PS1 graphics. If you play SH1 and 2 back-to-back, it’s remarkable how similarly they play. The graphics are also incredibly impressive for PS1. Definitely up there with Vagrant Story, Dino Crisis, Spyro, etc., as one of the best looking games on the console.
I recently played through Silent Hill 2 Restless Dreams on OG Xbox after playing the game almost exclusively on PS2 all these years. I may get crucified for this but in the slight defense of Silent Hill 2 Restless Dreams's default control scheme, it plays much better with the Duke Controller. Because X and B are much closer together, strafing and quick turning wasn't terribly hard after I got used to it. It's got nothing on the PS2 Controls, and I would definitely change your controls to something similar to the PS2 version if you're using an S Model Controller or a 360 Controller via backwards compatibility, but for the controller it was designed for at the time, the control scheme isn't terrible.
Clicked on this video not even noticing it was you who posted it. Seen your stalker reviews multiple times amazing videos can't wait to watch all of this one!
Loved the video. Little mention on SH4 that it was actually available on the PS3 from the Japanese PS2 version (English text etc). I got it on the Hong Kong store which is basically the Japanese store but all in English. It runs pretty well but I haven’t played it fully. It has some disclaimer saying it doesn’t but I didn’t see any issues within the first 30 mins of play.
Recently I've been slowly playing through SH2 for the first time on the PS3 HD collection and I have to say, aside from outdoor frame drops and a few graphical glitches, it's honestly not that bad. Not to undermine a fan's critiques or anything, but it is the least expensive way to own a physical copy, and I think overall I've had a good experience. I haven't played 3 yet so i can't speak to that.
1:33:48 GTA Liberty City Stories/Vice City Stories, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank are also PSP games that got Ps2 ports. It was a strange time for the Ps2. This is a very captivating video. As a guy who is fascinated by all the visual differences in same games on different platforms, the technical analyses scratched that specific itch. Thanks for all the effort and research, I think these days videos like this one are important to stay on top of things in a sea of options.
Thank you so much for this! Silent Hill 3 is my favorite game of all time and it's a travesty that you can't just buy it on Steam and play it! I still play either the PS2 version or the base PC version which I bought and love playing as is partially because I'm too lazy to figure out how to install mods! But if anyone knows how I could modify it to where I don't need to have the disc in the drive to be able to play it, I would greatly appreciate it! ☺️
Silent Hill 3 is my personal favorite of the series. I love 2, of course, but I got so much mileage out of SH3. Because of the difficulty loop mechanic, sometimes I would just play through the game, randomly, when I had extra free time and didn't feel like playing or watching anything else. I can't remember how many loops I did when it was all said & done, but it was quite a few, for sure!
Literally just download the PC versions- they're basically abandonware at this point, and then get the fanpatch which you pretty much just throw into the game folder without any fancy modification.
1:13:09 HENRY! HENRY! HENRY! NOT HARRY! *proceeds to angrily flip over table, and flop on the floor like an angry fish* Ok, ok. I'm good. Great video btw!
I played SH2 on the PS2 when it first came out, and the fog effects at the time blew my mind. I also have the Xbox (original) port, and the HD collection released on the 360. And in my opinion, the HD collection isn't as offensive as many make it out to be. Unless you're doing a side by side comparison, you may not even notice some of the objectively worse things when comparing the two Xbox releases. Neither did I find the SH3 port in the HD Collection to be quite as offensive. The fog/darkness effects are again less pronounced then the original PS2 release. But that's again something you may not even notice unless doing a side by side comparison. My biggest complaint was that certain parts felt inferior in some unquantifiable way. Regarding Shattered Memories, I use to have the game on PS2. But it was completely unplayable due to the game hard crashing every single time the first "otherworld" chase sequence tried to load. No damage to the disk, the game just didn't work.
Well, it can't be Argumentum ad Populum, since my arguments are pointed at the more mainstream sections of the audience. AKA, the group with the vastly larger numbers. If anything, Appeal to Authority fits better. Also, if I were making a No True Scotsman argument, I probably wouldn't have pointed at three Scotsman and said "these are true Scotsman and we'll use them to set the bar as to who is and is not one". You gotta finish those entry level debate and logic courses before you start trying use what you learned in em cuz.

@@C10Dante that and also the fact that retro game collectionism is not a cheap hobby. Emulation is always gonna be a good alternative and a way to preserve retro gaming.
I am 32 and I got all my consoles to play these games when I was like 27-28, what the hell does that make me? But also yeah, emulate, especially the first game.
I'm shocked you didn't recommend the PS2 for Silent Hill 1. Anyway this is how it goes: SH1: PS2/PS3 SH2DC: PS2 SH3: PS2 SH4: Classic Xbox SHO: PS2 SHHC: Xbox 360 SHSM: Wii SHD: Xbox 360 SHBoM: PS Vita And if you count mods, SH2DC, SH3, SH4, SHHC will better on PC due to the dedicated communities fixing them up. Some still have some minor issues like soft shadows but I believe these will be fixed sooner or later.
You can actually turn the smoothing off when playing PS1 or PS2 games on the PS3 and it looks BEAUTIFUL. I've pretty much used a PS3 as my PS1 ever since having access to one, and now that I have a launch-model, it basically serves as all three consoles while only occupying one power outlet and HDMI port -- I love it!!
You forget ro mention a great option for SH2,3 and 4 and the other 2 SH games on PS2. And that is to play the PS2 versions on a compatible PS3 and its a pretty damn good option that was strangely omitted here .
i was curious about this too... i have OG copies of SH1, 2, 3, 4, and Origins along with a backwards compatible fatboy (launch) PS3 and always thought that was the best way to experience Playstation games.
I'm one of the unfortunate souls who only has access to the HD collection. But I still had a blast playing SH 2 and 3. Definitely worth picking up if you have no other alternative.
There actually were a few games (That I know of) that went from portable to home console release, examples I can think of are all PSP games but it's this, Motorstorm Arctic Edge which went from PSP to PS2 it's a PS3 racing franchise so that one was particularly odd, there's also the GTA stories games, Vice City and Liberty City both from PSP to PS2 and that's pretty much all I can think of but I'm sure there's other stuff that might have gotten a full release, like I know a few that were part of collections like Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker HD and the God of War PSP games so there might have been other stuff that got a full release.
@31:48!?!?!?!?!?!?!? One of the worst controllers ever made!? The xbox 360 controller!?!?!?! The best controller ever made hands down!!! Is the worst ever made?? How??? Xbox had the beat controller ever made hands down!!
I recommend for Silent Hill 4 if you want to play it in 60fps on PC to get a monitor that has blank frame integration you know that thing your parents tv does and you have no idea how they managed to find a tv that makes every movie nauseating it's actually great for old school gaming
Look into buying the Japanese version of the games and getting a Japanese ps2. I got the og ps1/ps2 ver of SH 1-4 for 113$ total. Otherwise getting your hands on SH1/SH2 is insane and can easily be upwards of 200$ per disc. I then got a Japanese ps2 (games are region locked so you need the right console) for 60$. It’s still significantly pricey but doesn’t pass the price of buying just one of the original games from the US.
As a guy who makes subtle jokes in his editing, i appreciate that you put the scene of James fishing in a dirty toilet as the final scene to showcase the SH2 HD collection. My guess is he found a copy in the potty
For me, the best way to play SH1 is on a modded New 3DS XL with Retroarch. The screen resolution will keep everything crisp without loosing the low-poly appeal and the console's technical features are ideal for running the game
@@jaykelley103 hmmm I don't know what may have happened. The only thing that ever happened was stuttering two times I played it but what I remembered is that the game wouldn't run depending on the IS downloaded. My 3DS died two weeks ago so I can't check my configuration to help you ;(
Glad to hear that SH3 was the pinnacle. Because that was my first entry into the series with my older brothers. Fell in love and just got the ps3 HD collection since its my only option
I play all in PS3 SS, emulated at 720p,ps3 smoothing filters, w native performance and PS4 controller, also Homecoming and Downpour are native to PS3 and 360.
Notes about SH2 versions: -PS2 Greatest Hits hits is the best console version, has no compromises with the bonus content. Xbox version is only worth playing if that’s all you can get. -HD Collection is terrible, but the Xbox version is unpatched, meaning that it just has different issues to the PS3 version. This version shouldn’t be played ever, and there is no “better” of the two (backwards comparability enhancements not included). They both have issues that ruin both SH2 & 3. -Silent Hill 2 Enhanced Edition is the best way to play it, besides the slightly worse CG cutscenes there are no downsides to it. Plus the project is still being actively worked on, so there is potential in the future for the PS2 cutscenes to be added in. More recently they introduced a 60 FPS patch that makes the game really nice to play for those who can’t handle 30 FPS. The also finally have full mouse support and surprisingly comfortable to play.
SH2 Enhanced Edition is good but the fact that it's built on the PC port and HD upscales textures and stuff ends up slightly numbing what the original game was going for. It's just not as atmospheric as the PS2 version. SH2 is 'best' played as originally intended in 4:3 with low-res textures and rendering either on emulation or the original console. You can even upscale to 720p with 60fps for an ever-so-slight visual enhancement without having any of the downsides of the PC Enhanced; all the visual grit is maintained. If people want to play it in widescreen with the upscaled textures, re-rendered text and 1080p 3D model rendering and such, then sure, it's a valid way of playing, but it should always be noted that you're not getting the 'full' experience. At the end of the day, this comes down to preference, but personally I think it's best to go with what the devs intended.
I think the Xbox version deserves more credit than it gets and I have fully played it on both PS2/Xbox. The only downgrades it got were the weaker fog effects and the slightly worse sound effects/FMV quality. To make up for it, it has essentially no loading screens once the game starts which really helps with the immersion, progressive scan, superior vertex lighting, 60fps inventory/map screens and more control schemes to adjust to your liking - though side stepping is only available with 2D controls. Also, unlike what Avalanche says I did not encounter any micro stutters at all so I guess his disc is borked. Game is smooth 100% of the time. Anyhow, besides those things I mentioned, everything is else is exactly the same. The soft shadows, pressure sensitive controls/vibration, textures, every other graphical effect, voice/music audio, etc.
I gotta say I love silent hill, my first time playing the games was the HD collection. I used the original voices for SH2 and played it on the series S so it ran pretty well and looked fine except for the FMV cutscenes but it was overall good. It seemed like I experienced what others experienced. Hearing what you said about SH3 made me realize why I wasn't as into it as I was SH2, it's the voice acting. The new voices change the tone and just feel so unserious for a silent hill game.
That’s what happened to the original upload. I thought I was going crazy because I vividly remembered watching this one night and then not seeing it anywhere a day or two later. TH-cam has some horrendous upload monitoring systems that seem out to get content creators over stupid stuff.
I know the original voice actor for Heather Mason suits her character better but I will admit I still love her new voice because Amanda Winn-Lee is one of my Favourite voice actors. I Loved her in Burn up Excess, Persona 4 and Evangelion. ❤❤
With pcsx2 you can upscale 2-3 and 4 up to 4k with widescreen patches of the original ps2 versions. That's my preferred way to play these games. Just emulate them.
2:23:10 You're wrong about how FPS Boost works. It's a feature that makes games with 30fps caps run at 60fps (and 60fps games run at 120fps). It has nothing to do with getting a more stable 30fps over PS3. The more powerful hardware of the Series X alone is what is responsible for the better performance over PS3 so the Series X performance is no indication of the 360 performance
That Christmas where I got shattered memories, re4 (Wii), re2 (GameCube), and dead space 3 was a fun one mainly because my parents didn’t care or question why I wanted to play scary games. I personally thank shattered memories for getting me into the franchise
this video is one of the most valuable videos out there. If you don't think this info is priceless, look up what physical copies of the SH series are going for now.
This is the hardest series to get into, just going by the game availability. And it is a shame, because it's very annoying when everyone won't shut up about these series xD

Anything silent hill related sends me into a trance while watching. The music of silent hill 2 seems to stir something hidden in deep cells and tissues whose retentive functions are wholly primal and ancestral
Just recently finished Silent Hill 1 for the first time. I used MiSTer on a good CRT TV. Amazing! And I started with 24bit and later in game realized that I like original dithering better 😍 If you ask why not original hardware - I like savestates. But they probably not required in Silent Hill
SH3 is far and away my favorite SH game! SH4 is my second favorite. The second half of SH4 is my favorite part also. I like the return play through the areas and i love me some Eileen. I especially like having to figure out how to get Eileen through with you. Not having to turn the dam water tower rooms the second time was a blessing to be sure though. One thing i noticed is the dogs are way more aggressive if you run. In subsequential playthroughs i do just cut to the chase and waste them. Same for th bat bugs. One thing i've found while watching "Millennials" play the game is, they don't know that you should call the old number to get the new number for the phone. Heheh.
@@NoBandwidth-0 I think Shattered Memories is an expensive one as well at least when i was searching for a copy as it was a rarer SH and many people were looking for a copy.
I first saw a teaser for the first Silent Hill on a demo disc (remember those) when I was very young. I remember being entranced, though not horrified at that point by the cryptic by the cryptic, moody visuals and music. I hadn't played the game and since I was so small, I wouldn't get to play it until years later, but the imagery always lingered in my mind and it probably shaped some of my writing sensibilities.
I’ve never understood the issues people have with HD collection. My copy works perfectly fine. Never had a single issue with it. I don’t care for the new dub either but the fact I can choose og voices it just simply doesn’t matter
1:53:05 I hated the Wii version of Shattered Memories so much because I was waggling like an absolute idiot trying to get through the chase sequences, and I could not waggle and move the controls fast enough so I kept dying, in order to beat the Wii version you have to be fully immersed and play it like an intense exercise routine, otherwise you'll die over and over at the chase sequences. I ended up selling the Wii version because I knew I would never want to play it like that ever again, and I bought the PS2 version instead, I loved the PS2 version and it was very easy to get through.

It terrified me, moved me and is the sole reason I love horror in the way I do, and came completely unwanted into my life at first
Omg, it is such a creepypasta scenario. But instead of some haunted crap that will kill you, you got an amazing horror game experience. xD
Sometimes, the universe delivers things to those that will receive them in the most perfect of ways.
Scary! I recall I couldn’t finish Silent Hill 3 for the longest time, it was just freaking me out! And I was older! It just got to me..
Lastly, if you will notice that all of the good Japanese devs are making very heavy Western influenced games with western mechanics
there to busy printing yugioh cards
You can argue that they were inspired by western studios in 5/6/7/8 @@SPG8989and Bloober is an uninspiring studio choice.
Definitely more than fromsoft and square who are good though and it's pretty stupid to say souls series are western inspired when they are genre defining
Absolutely insane. I figured when they came out with all those Castlevania collections that Silent Hill would be next
People who complain about pyramid head 🤡
@Walamonga1313 when silent hill 2 has 3 times the enemy variety as any game they brought pyramid head back to imma start to hate seeing him. Hot take. Never was that cool anyways that's why he's not the main focus of silent hill 2

Notes about SH1 versions:
-PS3 version has a LOT of noticeable bugs.
Does this apply to the PSN Store digital version as well, or just using a PS1 disc on a PS3?

Happy to help dawg!
What Team Silent has achieved with SH3 on the PS2 is more than impressive, in my eyes, it even puts games like God Of War or the Resident Evil 4 port in the shade. Facial animation, lighting, and shadows are absolutely unique on the console, and all this back in 2003! ps GREAT VIDEO!
i wish those devs stuck together longer 3 wasnt even at the end of ps2
Sadly even though I loved the PS2 growing up nowadays I wish they had put a Xbox port out as well since hooking up a PS2 to a modern TV is like wearing someone else's prescription glasses and the silent hill hd collection is broken and unauthentic. I was just searching for silent hill 2 on eBay for the ps2 about 30 minutes ago and now this is recommended to me 22 minutes after it was uploaded. Crazy coincidence.

Imagine thinking that that's a coincidence 🤦🏻♂️
I had silent hill 1 on my ps1 when i was young but never managed to finish it. 15 years ago i Found a ps1 console in good condition and bought it for a cheap price. I bought the game on eBay and hooked it up on my old tv monitor and finaly finished sh1 before i turned 30🤣 great game❤
I plan to play all soon, so this and your obsession with tech features are a blessing.
Hell yeah!
Sh downpour has a special place in my heart because it got me over a break up in back 2019
It has a special place in mine too, my GRANDMA loved to watch me play it 😆 she hated most video games but was fascinated by the story of Downpour
Step-dad got me this, RE5 and an assortment of similarly relevant at the time games, all at once. I'm still fans of these franchises through thick and thin, clunky games to classics (RIP), and am psychologically obligated to finish them all before I go too, for my sister
Downpour isn’t scary but it was perfectly on the right track for being a good game.
Still wish I coulda had the original voices for 3

a 2 1/2 hour video on silent hill games from an angle I've never heard before and from a youtuber I trust? YESPLEASE
Thank you so much
I've been wanting to get into Silent Hill recently, so I'm sure this will be quite useful!

This series deserves a proper remaster
Well well well, have u seen the trailer?
There was difference regarding Silent Hill 4 that I noticed you missed, it is nothing too major to impact the gameplay in a positive way but on the PS2 there were exclusive apartment haunts that were not on any other release of Silent Hill 4, Recently someone made it possible for such exclusive haunts to be on PC via the same site you brought up when it comes to fixes in general.

Another masterpiece in the Avalanche Reviews Archive..! 💜

I still play either the PS2 version or the base PC version which I bought and love playing as is partially because I'm too lazy to figure out how to install mods! But if anyone knows how I could modify it to where I don't need to have the disc in the drive to be able to play it, I would greatly appreciate it! ☺️
There's actually a fan patch that essentially is a .exe for making the game start without CD

No damage to the disk, the game just didn't work.
the basis of this entire video is just a combo of Argumentum ad Populum and No True Scotsman

For me, the best way to play SH1 is on a modded New 3DS XL with Retroarch. The screen resolution will keep everything crisp without loosing the low-poly appeal and the console's technical features are ideal for running the game
Didn't know 3DS could run psx, sounds like a good way to enjoy those.
I didnt try sh, but every ps1 game I tried on my hacked n3ds ran terribly.
@@jaykelley103I use the New model. The OG 3DS can't run (efficiently) PSX games
@@cesaracosta362 I did too, New 3ds XL. Maybe I had some settings fucked up or something
You really outdid yourself on this one. You’re a technical whiz
Notes about SH2 versions:
-PS2 Greatest Hits hits is the best console version, has no compromises with the bonus content.
Is Silent Hill 2 Enhanced Edition has the PS2 version ? Because I tired everything on Silent Hill 2 on PCSX2 and my audio sounds lagging or buggy.
honestly i just like hearing you talk about all the games all the time
With pcsx2 you can upscale 2-3 and 4 up to 4k with widescreen patches of the original ps2 versions.
That's one of the reasons I made it. Someone could spend 100$ or more on a bad version of a game.
Great video, when i rember the voice acting of SH2 and 3 in the HD collection, what a terrible idea
This is the hardest series to get into, just going by the game availability. And it is a shame, because it's very annoying when everyone won't shut up about these series xD
For real $200 to play 2 and 3 on original hardware is stupid.
I play them all on my android phone through emulators and having a blast
9:00 yo never knew this information, thank you dude I've been dying to dive back into sims bustin out on gamecube but my god was it hard to look at now that I'm so spoiled on high definition gaming lol
i absolutely love these longform videos you put together!! hope all is well for you and yours in beautiful japan 🙂
Anything silent hill related sends me into a trance while watching. The music of silent hill 2 seems to stir something hidden in deep cells and tissues whose retentive functions are wholly primal and ancestral
Really nice video. So much details in there.
It just clicked why the J-Man's voice is so sonically pleasing: he sounds like a tank-controls obsessed Jim Florentine
You probably hear this all the time but your voice is perfect for talking about horror games
downpour on the rpcs3 emulator can run at 60fps and its just glorious. it runs so well that it feels like a native pc port
Just recently finished Silent Hill 1 for the first time. I used MiSTer on a good CRT TV. Amazing! And I started with 24bit and later in game realized that I like original dithering better 😍 If you ask why not original hardware - I like savestates. But they probably not required in Silent Hill
That's totally fair. The mister is real close to actual hardware anyways.
This video is perfect for eating pizza 🍕
Prove it by eating 3 Pizzas right now!!!
The best way is the emulator Duckstation for Silent Hill 1, and pCSX2 for the ps2 games :D
Thanks. This video is full of interesting facts! Love it
SH3 is far and away my favorite SH game!
Heheh.
Only problem is that, each of these games are ridiculously expensive.
Need to get digital version then.
@@tjheitor89 I don't like emulators.
I prefer the physical version.
@@NoBandwidth-0 Yes original copies are expensive in many of the original copies of SH
@@tjheitor89 Silent Hill 2 in particular.
The first Silent Hill is not cheap.
But, in terms of price, it's leagues better than 2.
@@NoBandwidth-0 I think Shattered Memories is an expensive one as well at least when i was searching for a copy as it was a rarer SH and many people were looking for a copy.
Great video, really appreciate all the research here. High marks. 😁
How come emulators like pcsx2 aren’t brought up? Or did you mention it and I just missed it?

I hated the Wii version of Shattered Memories so much because I was waggling like an absolute idiot trying to get through the chase sequences, and I could not waggle and move the controls fast enough so I kept dying, in order to beat the Wii version you have to be fully immersed and play it like an intense exercise routine, otherwise you'll die over and over at the chase sequences.
I ended up selling the Wii version because I knew I would never want to play it like that ever again, and I bought the PS2 version instead, I loved the PS2 version and it was very easy to get through.
Thanks Jared I needed this today :)
You got it dawg!
