I finished this game 8 or 9 times on various difficulties (can you tell I love this game?) and, honestly, sometimes the Alien was more aggressive on the easy difficulty than on hard, especially in the last part of the game. He was way more forgiving on hard when on easy he was constantly near me, pestering me and not letting me breathe.

The best remakes are the ones that expanded the original game without removing contents, levels, or story. Capcom's current RE games isn't fucking one them. Basically some idiot at Capcom is saying, yea let's remake Resident Evil, but from memory, let's streamline it and trim the fat so that the modern idiots can enjoy.

fuck i didnt know that you have to exit the dead screen to main menu first and then load game i just load game because some people said so to keep my time and S+ and i just tried a run with new game + and i beat it in 6 hours, i was confused as to why it took 6 hours as i just ran through enemies mostly in this run.

SH2 is by far the worst, and a terrible game in general.

there is nothing scary about Alien Isolation.. the moment you're not scared of the xenomorph its just a hide and seek game for KIDS!

I love how Resident Evil 4 Remake isn’t even in the list. 😂 Resident Evil 2 Remake is obviously the best remake. All 3 are great, but RE2 is the reason we are getting all these high quality remakes. It took the old game, stuck to what was good and reinvented it.

I don't mind that RE2R doesn't have the zapping system. I do wish they ditched the B scenarios and just had Claire and Leon's campaigns be two sides of one story.

People need to stop giving organizations like IGN clicks. Give them NO traffic.

I would of enjoyed SH2R if the optimization wasn't so trash on PC. It's still an amazing game , DS too, but RE2R set the standard for modern day remakes of super old titles

Re2 remake is awesome but the re4 remake is the goat. I haven't played Dead Space remake or Silent Hill 2 remake yet.

Dead Space isn't a remake, it should be considered as remaster, just like The Last of Us Part I, therefore it doesn't deserve any amount of praise

I'll preface my comment by saying on principle, I don't like the remake trend, and I think the resources spent on these titles could and should have been new games. We really need new games. That said, on the category of New Additions, it should be noted Dead Space added the zero gravity mechanic from DS2, which was wise, since their original way was a little janky. But while Dead Space and SH2 are basically the same as we remember, I'd argue RE2 Remake is the only one of these 3 that is for all intents and purposes, an entirely new experience. The change in perspective really is the key new addition, and even if the plot beats are familiar, things like the new gas station opening, more Marvin, a totally new Orphanage section for Sherry, locations like the lab having a completely different layout, and even how Mr X is used compared to the original (now he's Jack Baker from RE7) are significant updates to RE2's design philosophy. So even though all 3 games are well made, a case can be made that Silent Hill and Dead Space were ultimately unnecessary, whereas Resident Evil 2 justifies its existence. Which is why it's so well regarded, and responsible for every studio trying to copy the remake trend now. It's also got new DLC!

As someone who didn't play the game when it was released and had no idea of the review in question. I finally played isolation right before romulus came out. And I'm so happy I did. The game is without a doubt one of the best survival horror games ever made and it makes me sad that the IGN Review killed the sales and that Ryan from what I could find doesn't seem a tad sorry for what his review did.

There’s a new isolation announced!

RE2 is my favorite one: better characters, pacing, gameplay and replay value. The other two are good too, but SH2 is a bit too long and have some pace issues (prison and labyrinth segments are kinda drag) while DS i didn't find the characters and overall plot interesting, also not the most diverse environments

RE2 blew it out of the water, hands down my top remake. the others are in no way bad whatsoever either, all 3 top tier horror games.

All great remakes but i must say im definitely most impressed with sh2. Atmosphere,sound and town design are on another level. And so much details. Impressive work

Another things that I will say about what makes Silent Hill 2 Remake better than the other two in regards to performance and voice acting, Silent Hill 2 Remake knocked it out of the park with that one and deserves a point. Luke Roberts's performance as James Sunderland was excellent and perfect with the emotions, expressions, tone, everything. Luke Roberts deserves an award for his performance on James Sunderland.

if only the new RE remakes stayed true to the original the same way SH2 and Dead Space did

Dead space and silent hill remakes were the best

One thing that definitely struck me about the Dead Space remake (having never played the original), was that it FELT like a game made in the late 2000s. It did kinda feel dated, and I can only imagine it was a like for like remake. Whereas RE2 felt like it was completely redesigned from the ground up.

SH2 was the best at recapturing the original's story, music, cut scenes, dialogue atmosphere, backgrounds, sound effects. Felt like the developer remade the game without too many changes. RE was changed too much, including changing character personalities

I liked how SH2R fleshed out the town, def made it feel like a place people actually lived and breathed in

You can parry literally everything to my knowledge grabs when the regenerators explode hatchets bullets only thing I think you can't parry is traps and explosions and I don't think you can parry the big guys but I've only ever played on hardcore

Dead Space

IMO Dead Space is now the titular Remake standard, dethroning RE1 remake.

I think in terms of just playability factor Resident Evil 2/3/4 remake takes the cake. They are simply the more fun of the three franchises. Dead Space leans heavily on atmosphere and jump scares, Silent Hill relies on atmosphere and tension and not letting you breath and RE games are more straight forward action hero type games. I think the RE engine has a lot to do with this. It's snappy, well optimized and playing Re4 remake right after Silent Hill 2 remake is a night and day difference in terms of fluidity of animations, character model fidelity ,framerates, etc. I'm not shitting on SH2 remake. It's incredible. I do hate unreal engine, though. It's clunky and ugly in my opinion. Resident Evil is just a better video game to me
