  • Rugby player Joe Westerman sustained a patellar knee dislocation and was seen slapping the knee cap back into place! In this video I'll review patella dislocations and what is done for them, as well as why it actually might have looked more dramatic than it actually was.
    Thanks for watching!

      RandomNess wow ur being serious?! Don’t think that ur sprained ankle is that painful, I have had 2 grade three ankle sprains, and I also tore my acl which took me a year to come back from... the acl hurt WAY worse there bud. But sorry to hear that hope u get better soon. Also one last thing, comparing injuries to ones that u haven’t ever experienced is a very ignorant thing to do, I thought ur comment was a joke

    Thanks for finally doing one on patella dislocations!
    I dislocated my left kneecap a couple of years ago while playing basketball with my friends. It was unimaginably painful, and I thought I had broken my leg. Paramedics relocated it after administering painkillers. I did an X-ray (no fractures) and MRI. They put me in a cast, then in a brace with crutches. I dutifully followed the rehab program and had no recurrent injury ever since 🤞.
    I get the occasional crepitus (popping sound) when I bend or straighten my knee though.

    • @IgorDevicAnimations
      @IgorDevicAnimations 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Were you able to play basketball later or never played again? I have dislocated mines 2 times on each leg and now i am working hard to prevent any future injuries so i could play and train again

    • @kenthemaster
      @kenthemaster 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@IgorDevicAnimations Yes I was able to go back to basketball, but I waited about 6 months before playing/training more intensively. I feel like I never quite returned to 100% even now. There is this psychological factor I need to overcome whenever I drive into the paint or go up for a rebound.
      I have become more mindful of training and conditioning nowadays, as well as my biomechanics for running, jumping and landing.
      With regards to your injuries, I would advise you not to be disheartened and take the rehab process seriously (preferably find a physiotherapist who understands the nature of your injuries). As Dr. Sutterer said, it is very important to strengthen your quadriceps and other leg muscles to reduce the likelihood of future injuries.

    • @IgorDevicAnimations
      @IgorDevicAnimations 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kenthemaster Yeah i also have that psychological factor like you. In my case it started happening just after my growth spurt and my knees were at the weakest point at that time so i guess that was the case with me. Thanks for your response!

      Idk how I did mine, except I was a softball pitcher in highschool and college and didn't have a knee prob til a few years ago. I thought my knee was "out of joint", that's how I described it, but thought, that's impossible, since most dislocations don't relocate themselves. Anyway, it happened again, like 1x or 2x a year over the last like 5 years. Then it happened 2 months ago, then Sun night, then Monday afternoon, while I was donating plasma. Luckily the boss there used to be a paramedic, and she had someone hold down my arm, so I didn't bend it, and she properly pulled my leg and pushed the cap back into place. I went to the doc today. Got an orthopedic surgeon referral and X-rays today. I'm terrified it will happen again, because the pain is so bad, until it goes back into place, then it's a little sore, but I can walk on it. I'm just worried that it's happening more often and think I will need surgery.

    True story: dislocated my kneecap during childbirth classes. Couldn't walk normally for a month.

      @@Dfg159 Yep. I don't do any high-impact stuff except for tennis and the knee feels a little weak during/after that, but I can walk normally.

      @@davidwaldo3141 thank you for your response, sorry if I make you a ultimate question, but I am scared because I dislocate mine 3 days ago,do you think you feel your knee weak because the muscle around are weak?

      @@Dfg159 I think it's because I probably tore some cartilage and maybe a ligament. I never got an MRI so I don't know for sure, but the orthopedist I saw at the time didn't think I tore my ACL.
