so this just happened to my a7iii - no warning. Was taking pics and suddenly heard a weird click and the shutter is messed up. I was quoted 1K for the repair. Sounds kind of crazy. I use the camera daily So I went out and just bought another a7iii. Maybe I'll try and fix the broken one just to see if I can repair it myself.
Thank you so much for the video, I was able to successfully replace the shutter! Is it possible for the motor to seize but you can rotate the gear (22:10)? After replacing the shutter I still get an error "Error please power camera off then on". With no access to any menus. I can hear the shutter actuate and even move, but it doesn't stay open as it should, and since the shutter is replaced, I am inclined to believe it is the motor causing issues as a replacement shutter has had no effect (the old shutter did the same thing and had no visual damage). I have been digging through forums for hours, and I feel like it is hard to narrow down the issue with such little information available online. Just thought id ask here too!
If you type this into google you'll be able to find it: "sony a7iii 149019334" The part number is the long string of numbers, you can usually find them from companies like Encompass Parts, but sometimes you have to buy from eBay. Good luck on your repair!
@@HansomsRepairs thank you for responding, i actually need part for my a6000 it only has 257 shutter count. i see some information about adjusting the shutter spring. do you know if it is possible to fix it that way?
So, yes. You technically would calibrate it after installing the new shutter. However, this requires a Sony Home Key which buying one secondhand is around $30k. I don't think you need to worry about it. Just focus on doing the repair correctly, connecting all the cables and flexes, and don't miss the little metal spacers! Good luck on your repair.
Hilarious video man! Definitely saving this for the future. Thanks for the great pacing.

It's most likely a loose or disconnected flex cable. Disassemble and check your connections, the motor is most likely fine.
thanks for the video where can i buy the replacement part?

Nice job 😀
How many actuations is the shutter on a7lll good for?
Also would you say it's a reliable work horse apart from that ?
