      @@xbgt85 They essentially only have 3 models. the Base 6000, Mid range, 6300, High end 6500. And their upgrades. 6000 + 100. 6300 + 100, 6500 +100.
But their sensors have not changed in at least 5 years iirc, so I don't see a point in APS-C E-mount. The only APS-C worth buying now is Fuji.

I currently own a A7ii, A7iii and a A7C. I work for youtubers in Andorra. Here are my conclusions: A7ii is still perfectly fine for photography, solid option for starting photographers on a lower budget, but it's completly unusable for video, its autofocus isn't reliable at all, super slow and it feels "dumb". If you are recording moving subjects for a vlog, 90% of the video will be out of focus. Now, A7iii vs A7C, and I kind of disagree here with you. Despite being very similar cameras, I find the A7iii has a clear advantage for photography over the A7C, and exactly the opposite for video. I don't think the A7iii is that close to the A7C for video at all. The a7iii has better evf, more customizable buttons which is very convenient for stills, better ergonomics, etc. Regarding to video: the A7C has no recording limit, better color science straight out of camera which is key for youtube work, more options for stabilizing footage, flip screen, and the biggest deal is real time eye AF. You mentioned autofocus is almost the same between the two cameras, but I find this difference actually massive. If you take any a7iii video footage in a "youtuber scenario (moving people etc)", the camera doesn't focus properly, it waits for a bit, then focuses, the subjects moves and it's out of focus during the trajectory, then focuses, etc. The A7C does a killer job here, you can pick any frame and the subject will be razer sharp in focus 98% of the times, which for me is a big deal, it gives a more professional look and it's very helpful for thumbnails. It seems like the A7C sacrifices some stuff to adquire some A7Siii-like features. Overall really good video mate ;)

I was recently upgrading from my old A7S2, I was sure I'll go with A7III, because why should I sacrifice custom buttons and functionality with A7C? BUT, at the last minute I changed my mind and went with A7C. The major thing that Arthur R forgot to mention is that A7C has real time EYE-AF in VIDEO, A7III does not have this in video mode, only in photo. This was the selling point for me.

TL;DR: The A7C isn't worth it, and I had a horrible experience with mine.
I just want to add my experience with the A7C (I use a camera for 50% photography and 50% videography (live streaming church services every Sunday)). I started out with the A6100, then started getting full-frame envy so I looked into the A7III and A7SIII. When I saw the A7C, I was in love! The specs were perfect for what I needed, and the live eye-tracking for video really appealed to me. I sold off my A6100, APS-C lenses, and all the accessories I'd collected for it. From day 1, the A7C gave me problems. During the first live-stream, I noticed severe auto-focusing problems. The camera would randomly start to focus-breath, and at times it would even lock onto the mic in front of the person speaking (and I triple confirmed that face/eye auto-focus was enabled). We're talking about a person standing still in front of a podium, maybe 10 feet away, so there's no excuse for poor auto-focus. Amazon gave me 30 days until I had to return it, and I kept it until day 29, desperately messing with settings, trying to diagnose the auto-focus issues. It just didn't make sense that an $800 camera was blowing a $1,800 camera out of the water.
I ended up going with the A6400 instead, and last Sunday I was able to fully test it during a live-stream. All the sudden my auto-focusing issues were gone, and it was locking onto faces just like I expected it to. I also want to mention I took the A7C on a hike and even using it for still frame photography, I missed focus on at least 1/3 my shots while I was looking directly at someone's face (I should also mention I was using a native Sony lens for this and the live-streaming). Maybe I simply had a faulty camera, but for my money, after using both systems, having full-frame for an extra $1k just isn't worth it, especially when the actual photo and video capabilities of the A6400 are virtually identical.
EDIT: One last thing. If you're like me and currently use one of the A6000 series cameras, but the siren call of full-frame is tempting you purely for the fact that it's full-frame and that's what "real" photographers use, don't buy into that crap! A pro with an APS-C camera will always beat an amateur with a full-frame. Your experience and glass are _so much more_ important than the size of your sensor! Arthur has shown that time and time again. Unless you have an actual, tangible reason for _requiring_ full-frame, save your money and buy some more lenses for your current camera.

Did you notice any difference on how the buttons click? I sold my A6600 for the A7c.. I just have it but I'm feeling a little bit of regret. Hopefully I'll get over it. This cam feels cheap, the plastic feels cheaper than the A6600 and, the buttons have very deep and soft clicks, instead of the A6600's more shallow and harder click. This makes me press way harder than I feel I should need to. I'm even wondering if I got a bad copy..

    • @alexrowland
      @alexrowland 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@tomghzel Compared to the a6100, the A7C felt more “premium”, but compared to the a6400, my A7C felt about the same, if not a little cheaper regarding the buttons specifically. If you _truly_ need a full frame camera, just bite the bullet and go for the A7SIII. This is a “buy once, cry once” situation. Like in most areas of life, there are no short cuts regarding camera quality. You get what you pay for, and with the A7C you’re _paying_ less but _getting_ less in return.

@@alexrowland Hey, thanks for the answer! I don't totally agree, because the A7 III is an awesome cam, and costs less than the A7c! But in contrast to what the videomaker said, I did notice a big difference in autofocus between the A7 III and the A6600. A6600 was way better in getting and keeping autofocus. That's why I got the A6600 in the first place. I follow a lot of very good photographers that use the A7 III (not the s). I just need an affordable b-cam because I already bought the FX6 😭💸. I'll just cry a little and than sell the A7c when Sony releases the A7 IV.

i actually sold my a7iii just months ago and bought the a7c. I encountered 0 prolems, i use this cam mostly for work purposes 80% video all the time. For me it's a an upgrade from a7iii, the full flip screen is something i've bren eanting for a long time and yes it made tons of difference on how i shoot now and hoe flexible and dynamic i am noe compared to the a7iii where i used to be so stiff. But you do you

I love my a6000, a6500 and NEX-7. Im saving uo for the A7IV when it comes out hopefully in 2021. The A7-3 is the best bang for your buck. The A7C is a budget friendly to get more folks into Full Frame that are currently pnly in APSC land but yeah its not as nice and fleshed out as the normal A7xxx line

Until recently I had the Sony A7ii and had quite a good time with it The lens I had on it 99% of the time was the Sigma 100/400mm. I then done an update to the Sony A7iii. I use the same lens and I am far more comfortable using the Sony A7iii. This camera is used in mostly manual mode and I have noticed that once I stopped moving my hands on taking images they improved real quick. And yes still that same lens. There was a transition period where I had to learn a few things and I am still learning some of them. Now this is down to me being a slow learner and not the camera in any way. I wish I had went straight for the Sony A7iii as to me it is the best camera out there and yes very bias in saying this. My thoughts on keeping the Sony A7ii lasted all of a day or so then it went on the market to be sold. I know I am far happier with my choice and if I do an upgrade it will be to the Sony A7riv. I enjoyed your report and is the only reason why I have commented.

Good overview and comparison. Im waiting (and saving up) for the A7IV coming soon in 2021 (hopefully). The a7-3 was a game changer and still the best bang for your buck Full Frame camera just like the a6000 was a game changer for the APSC line.

I have had my A77 for over a decade. I looked at the new Sony lineups frequently, but your initial storyboard really explained all the new models. Thanks so much! I still can't seem to justify making the leap to E mount lenses with all of my amazing Sony and Minolta A mount glass. :/

Kind of was in the same boat. Had an A77 since around launch, sold to gf and got a used a99 for the past 7 years. Decided it was finally time to leave the middle ages behind and jumped on 0 shutter count Amazon open box A7C for 1200$ (lucky!) but gf's A77 finally died so sold her the C and now have an SIII! Gotta say, the sheer jump in quality of life from cameras of that generation to modern justifies the cost of buying into a new system! If you live in a major metropolitan area, the sony used lens market is quite extensive and good deals pop up with enough patience.

I upgraded from a7r2 to a7r3. At first I thought given both same resolution and all. But I was wrong, it wasn't much of an upgrade. A7r3 was a totally different beast, blazing fast focusing and real time AF makes the deal PLUS previously a7r2 on godox Xpro had like 0.5-1 secs lag, that mattered esp on movement. but a7r3 zero lag on remote flash, means I can easily HSS accurately.
    Didn't regret the upgrade
