Great job! You saved me with this vid. Had my hot shoe contacts corroded and had to disconnect the whole unit. Top panel dissamble guide would be also great!
That's great that you were able to fix it. I hope to get more videos for this series out soon. 🙂
This is beautiful, the sheets will be so helpful, as I have to tear it down to the very end to change E mount connector assy. Amazing job.
Thank you. 🙂
Top man you are saving lot of people money by teaching them how to fix cameras keep up the the good work sir
Any day one of your videos is uploaded, it's going to be a Good Day !!. You're the master of Camera Repair Instructional videos.Clear, concise, covering all the bases.
Hey thank you! I really appreciate that. :-)
Hallo Robert.
That's great news Helmut. I'm glad that you were able to find the problem and fix it, and I'm glad the video helped you out. 🙂
@@Thebobfactor I send you a e-mail with some pictures.
Very detailed and interesting video, really thank you! I have to disassemble my Sony A1 because I damage lens contact pins so there is no contact with camera and lens. Unfortunately to replace this part I need to disassemble all camera from begin to end. Design of A7III and A1 looks very close so I think that 95% of steps in this video will be the same in my case. Also thank you for diagrams!
This is amazing! thank you! I accidentally plugged a different AC power adapter into my dummy battery. (so annoyed with myself!) Camera not turning on now, so guessing I've blow something to do with power. Any idea what I'd need to do to fix this?
Hello and thank you for this very helpful video! Lifesaver! What do you use to reattach the grip to the camera? You mentioned you would show at 1:53 but didn't see a re-assembly video. Thank you!
Hi. I hope to get more videos for this series completed soon. What I have found that works best for reattaching the grip to the camera, is a good quality doubled-sided tape. It seems to work better than some of the glues that I have tried in the past. The tape holds the grip on very well, and you can still remove the grip if you need to. Here's a link to some double-sided tape that I have used on my Sony camera. This pack of tape includes multiple sizes in the pack, and I found the strips that are 3/16" wide to work the best. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09LT1Z76H/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hey Robert, just wanted to reach out and say thanks SOOOO much for making this video! I just used it to replace the microphone jack and the printable screw diagrams were incredibly helpful. I really appreciate your efforts. Unfortunately, there's now a bad hiss on the audio input (with and without an external microphone plugged in), so it sounds as if I may have messed something up when reassembling. Regardless, I'm very grateful for this video and I just subscribed. Take care.

Thank you very much
Thank you so much!!!
You're welcome. Were you able to download the screw layout diagrams successfully?
Hey quick question. I need to replace the hot shoe. How far do I have to go to access it?
Thank you for taking time and taking us through the guts of Sony. My Sony a7 recently fell and both screen and viewfinder were not responsive at firts, but after a night with the battery taken out the screnn came back to life (although matrix is pixalated in few places), but viewfinder still not working. Any idea what could be wrong and waht do I need to do?
That would be really hard to say. It could be one of a few possibilities. To have it effect both the viewfinder and the main screen would suggest that it has something to do with the main CMOS sensor or it's circuitry. The first thing that I would do is to open it up and look for any loose cable connections, and also look for a cracked or broken main circuit board. After that, work your way down to the main sensor, looking for any obvious problems with anything being dislocated or broken. Hopefully it's something that can be spotted pretty easily and is fixable.
@@Thebobfactor Thank you for your reply. Loose cable would be the thing I had in mind, let's see what I see when I get inside. I was hoping that the problem with screen was that camera was in shock, but perhaps it has some permanent damage right now as well.
@@neuroniuans I agree with you. I think it's something that will need addressed unfortunately. That doesn't mean it's going to have to be something serious though. It could be something very simple. We won't know until you have a chance to inspect it though. Good luck with it. Let me know what you find.
@@Thebobfactor Just bought tiny screwdrivers today and planning to get to it in hte next few days.
great video boss
Great job!! Thanks.
I have the Sony A7r iii and after watching this, I now know what anxiety is…lol. Super interesting but l don’t think I could ever bring myself to do this, lol.
Lol. I sure know what you mean. It's a little mind boggling on how many pieces there are to one of these cameras. 🙂
Do I need to take my camera apart to replace the multi-selector joystick?
Yes you will, but only as far as removing the back panel. I have not removed that selector assembly myself, and I don't have a video showing how to do it yet. Hopefully sometime in the near future though.
@@Thebobfactor that would be cool. I think I will hold off on sending it out for repairs. We have no service repair in California it seems.
I am needing to replace the hotshoe on my A7iii. Do you have to disassemble the camera in order to access the cable connection for the new part?
You will only need to disassemble it down to where you can remove the top section. Once you have the top section off, you will have access to the hot shoe from the underside. There are a few other parts on the underside that will have to be removed in order to get to the hot shoe screws and flat ribbon cable.
@@Thebobfactor thank you!! That definitely seems doable
Hey, what do you use to glue back the first grip ? Great video.
The 3M 300LSE double sided strips work great for reattaching the grips. Here's a link to some on Amazon; www.amazon.com/dp/B09LT1Z76H?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
thank you !@@Thebobfactor
Sooo... Do you offer the repairs yourself? My Diopter will not focus when I spin it in either direction. If there is a way to cause it lock on a focus close to focused for my eye, I would love to know how.
No, I don't do any camera repair for others. Unfortunately I don't have a video that shows anything on the diopter adjustment right now. Hopefully I will in the near future though. Sorry I can't be more help.
where can i find parts numbers for sony spare parts? is there any good online source?
I have always gone to eBay for camera parts. In some cases when I can't find the individual part that I need, I will look for a "for parts, or broken" listing of the same camera make and model, as long as it appears that the camera doesn't have an issue with the part that I am needing. 🙂
Hi Robert.
Great video! How would I obtain your screw reference sheets for my Sony a 7 III.
PAUL CONWAY
Hi Paul. I have the links for the screw layout diagrams in the description for the video above. You may need to click on "...More" button to see them. If you have any problems with the links at all, just let me know and I can email the diagrams to you.
