One of my favorites, played the base game multiple times with my friend... and apparently, we did it wrong every time :D
Discard to 3 cards in hand happens at the start of each turn o_O We always did it at the start of a round. It now baffles me how I never noticed the rule from other videos (let alone read it wrong in the rulebook) but I'm glad I caught it at least now. Better late than never.

You get 3 new cards from the next era deck not 6.
At 26:57 you used an action card as an instant effect card.
Also, if you can't pay with kelp/biomass for the cities, you pay with -3 points but if you have 0 points you can't go lower. So you could've ignored farms in the first era, since you had no point to lose :) and do something else more lucrative with those resources.

Hey Tom, I discovered your channel not so long ago, and I really enjoy your content. Amazing production, you speak clearly (great for non natives), I feel really involved in your game session :D
I have a quick question: I bought UWC base game after watching your plays, I love it. So far I play only solo (maybe my wife will like?). If I were to pick up UWC New Discoveries, would it be worth it for solo only? These boards look amazing, and the different modules very interesting. I do not know if all modules can be used for solo, and if the price becomes to high for just a few boards and modules in that case.

Thanks Benjamin! The new cards are mixed in so can be used solo, but the new Museum module can’t, and so it would be some new cards and the player boards for solo. I know they really ramp up the cost, but some people really hated the original player boards! As beautiful as the new ones are I was fine with the thin ones 🙂 if your wife ends up liking it though, you’re good to go!

Just to ask, around 13:05 you say you have 4 slots for each city to put buildings. But I thought that you had to have a card that allows you to build in the fourth slot. The expansion arrives in the mail tomorrow so I'm just prepping. Thank you much for making the video!

Hi Mike! I help Tom on his channel doing the Klingon subtitles.
You are correct that normally you can only build on 3 sites. But during his solo game Tom had one of the new Personal Assistants from the expansion called the Manger. The Manger has a permanent effect of allowing the player to build on the 4th building site. At the timestamp you provided you can see the card. It is tilted because Tom activated it, but the permanent effect still applies.

I have struggled, and still do struggle, to understand the resource player aid board. I don't know what critical bit of understanding that I'm missing, but it is the thing that keeps me from bringing this game to the table. That board frustrates me. One of the things I don't understand is that the board is divided into colored sections. This is clearly meant to indicate something but I have yet to determine exactly what. Is there a detailed breakdown of that board to help understand what it all means?

Hi Lance. While watching the video I noticed that Tom does a overview of the player aid. His overview starts at 9:58. The blue area is a production phase overview.
