Madi here. We’ve all been reading your comments about the first story. I just want to say I agree with you all that OP was not the asshole and was treated horribly by that girl. What Sippi said wasn’t very thoughtful and is probably because she’s a teenager. On this podcast, you can give an opinion people might not agree with but we could have done better on voicing the opposing veiwpoint. Thank you to all the people who were critical of Sippi but were respectful of that fact that she is still a person with feelings.

The idea of that girl thinking that posting #uglypeoplematter was going to earn her a positive role model award for some college application is laughable. And just wanted to say to Sippi not to feel too bad about the comments. I don’t think OP was the asshole but I can’t tell you the number of times I have shared an opinion or something I thought was a great idea only to find out literally nobody else in the group agreed/liked it. 🤣 We all have different experiences which help us to reach different opinions. Not only that, sometimes we say something, think about it later and are like, “Why did I say that? I don’t even believe that?!”
Anyway, love this group’s thoughtfulness and sense of humor.

  • @myfriendsfoot
    @myfriendsfoot 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +217

Some of the reactions to the first story was absolutely mental. "The universe will take care of it" is such an out-of-touch take. "Karma" can and should be delivered by people to people when appropriate, and this was absolutely appropriate. OP had their emotions toyed with and disregarded for the sake of someone's personal gain, it was within their right to stop them from getting that award. Life is unfair sometimes, and people like that who go unchecked will absolutely gain more than they deserve. That's why in the current world, billionaires can utilise brutal working conditions to increase their profit, and build their wealth uninterrupted.
Also, "time to work on yourself now"? Like being unattractive is some kind of objective flaw that needs to be fixed? People who don't fit societies' standards of beauty deserve to live without being taken advantage of like OP was. Someone's looks alone justifies ZERO unkind behaviour - what happened to OP was so unkind. Being attractive or unattractive or average isn't something with moral weight behind it, it is not good or evil - it is merely a statement, based on subjective societal values.
I haven't written a TH-cam comment in years but this has convinced me to break that streak. Jesus fucking wept. Interesting guest choice.

For real. I like to believe in karma and just hope that people will get what's coming to them but there's a difference between when you can't really do anything and when you should do something. There's some instances where you just need to walk away and that's just the better thing to do for you and leave it alone and just kind of hope that whatever is coming for that person will come. Then there are instances like what op went through. He had every right to report her because she doesn't deserve some award or recognition for being fake and doing something extremely awful to someone. Thankfully it didn't come to this but I just keep thinking what if Op found out and killed himself? Stuff like that isn't something to play around with

@@soggytortillla literally what I said in another comment. That this is something only a bully would say. The guest needs to do some self reflection and work on herself a bit.
These messages is why people who, for any reason, fall outside of society need to work 10 times as hard to be treated like everyone else. Like if people are overweight they need to be funny or extra extra kind. Or like how I (I have a invisible disability) despite my rediculous high grades still need to prove I'm for to be researcher.
For context in the Netherlands we have a 10 point scale. A 8 is a 4.0 GPA Or "A". I had a GPA of 8.5 and multiple courses completed with a 10. which really rarely happens here, especially in social sciences (because there is always something that can be better). And despite all of that people still doubt me and I have to prove I'm up for it. Makes me furious.

I see your guys' response and I appreciate that Sippi has already caught a lot of flack, but I want to say this on the off-chance she sees this. Everyone has already said this, but "if you're ugly, you're ugly" is not an acceptable or appropriate response to someone's facial features being used against them for someone else's clout. It's a very immature and thoughtless thing to say, and I hope you've reflected on where that came from and why you said it. The universe does not engage in divine retribution of people who do bad things. You are free to believe what you will spiritually, but I would encourage you to really think about if you'd want to leave it to the universe if something like this happened to you. You're young and you have a lot to learn, but you did not use very much empathy in your response to the first story.
As someone who was one of the weird kids in high school and not conventionally attractive, it is one of the most isolating and sad experiences someone can go through. It follows us for the rest of our lives. I don't know anything about your personal life, but the way you responded makes me think you probably aren't/weren't treated like this at school. I sincerely hope you weren't, but I would still expect a level of sympathy and compassion for people who were genuinely wronged. Their response was completely justified because someone stood to benefit from their exploitation of their undesirable traits that had isolated them for so long. You're young and you've already caught a lot of flack for this, but I hope this post puts into context WHY a lot of people are upset with your response.

I can have a “super fine” boyfriend but if he treats me like shit how good is his looks to me? In my opinion they are irrelevant, I don’t ever go after a guy for his looks, of course I have to find him somewhat attractive but if he has a great personality and treats me really good, I fall in love and he becomes the most attractive man in the world to me. The way the world is definitive proof that the whole “wait for it to come back to them” isn’t rlly a thing lmao. We have horrible ppl who are untouchable. And the fact of the matter is that SHE was using him, not only in the moment, but also to help HER succeed in the future. Why do the ones getting hurt always have to let things roll off their back? Why do they just have to let ppl do whatever without consequence for the sake of some imaginary concept that isn’t even set in stone.
Like obviously I don’t know any of y’all, but I feel like the people who have this mentality are privileged in some sense, bc some of us truly cannot afford to just leave everything up to karma. That’s how u end up becoming a human doormat. And Brandon’s story isn’t rlly the same tbh bc sure it was artificial, but at least there was something nice about it. This story was just straight up manipulation, selfishness and bullying. And it only escalated. And he was also being used and flaunted around on social media, which is just added pain.
Like idk, I’m just sick of the idea that the victims always have to be the one to ignore, ignore, ignore. For years atp he’s been being bullied, and this was his first time truly standing up for himself. He should be allowed to say that this girl can’t use HIS life situation for the sake of some award she doesn’t deserve. Y’all asked what he gets from it, but what does he get from letting her win an award, and assumingely college credit, by using him??

I think it’s not really a privileged stance just a different response. Shows more of a grit and bear it approach which is all the same a trauma response. Trauma responses are different for everyone but no matter what the response is, it’s generally a privilege to be able to do something about people harassing/ harming us especially in that OPs shoes where it’s so normalized and it’s good he took the opportunity. Some people wouldn’t take the opportunity, it’s not their prerogative for one reason or another but that reason is generally not privilege.

    • @sleepytoons2155
      @sleepytoons2155 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

@@idontknowmyfruits2194 I meant that it’s a privileged mindset to sit there and confidently say that u don’t think victims should be allowed to go back at the ppl hurting them and to be just leave it to the universe. Bc it is. Ppl who have been actually fucked over by the universe, don’t leave their lives up to it. It’s a privilege to even be so sure that the world is just going to work out in ur favor. Life isn’t Disney channel, and she truly didn’t even try to understand why he did what he did and the full capacity of what SHE did. She was just fine with him letting the girl use him. She was more focused on him taking action than WHY he was taking action. That’s why I say it’s a privileged mindset.
Bc even tho the others said they might not have done it, they understood why he chose to do it. For her it was “what do u get from that, she can get karma but u can’t do anything about it”.
And frankly idc why the “grit and bear” method is her personal choice. I care that she read a story about a 17 yr old bully victim and fell instead into victim blaming territory, unconsciously or not. Like I said, the others had a similar opinion, but it was discussed differently and didn’t scream privilege the way hers did.
And side note ig, but to assume trauma is the reasoning is a major assumption. It’s one thing to say someone’s wording came off as privileged and another to assume their actions are motivated by trauma. It’s also giving major “trauma is an excuse” instead of an explanation.
Bc Trauma response or not, in the context of this? She’s just telling him that HES in the wrong for taking action when someone is literally using him as a stepping stone for their future. Alllll of these factors were screaming privilege
And I saw another comment from u about them using Karma so like 😭it feels like we have a similar standpoint. Bc most of her opinion revolves around karma. And I brought that up multiple times

1st story- nta, she was mean and didn’t deserve the award. karma is good and fine but doesn’t mean you shouldn’t hold others accountable for their actions. for real proud of that dad who doesn’t want his kids online. family channels are dangerous and can lead to so many issues for children being taught to put a mask on to make the money for food. they also get no money just experiences which is not worth the work they do.

10:07 No No No he is NTA because that is a disgusting thing she did to that boy, and to gain a “positive” social media image. This girl is publicly humiliating this boy, he is already bullied and at best ignored. She could have been the reason he un-alived himself or committed a mass pew pew in the school.
This girl is gonna get an achievement award when she did not at all deserve it, if exposing her truth instead of a lie she is perpetrating eliminates her award than he is not at fault in the least bit. This girl is the worst kind of person and deserves what she got and so much more because this poor boy already was very insecure because of the bullying, then to do this and tell her friends to play along until after she wins the award is so disgusting and degrading. She is going to be why this boy becomes an incel and it’s so gross and utterly sickening.

I really love this podcast and i understand that your cousin is younger but the take she had was hurtful and mean. She stated something that felt like what a bully would say snd for the first time i felt uncomfortable watching. You guys have had plenty of different opinions and takes but to tell a person in lamemts terms "if ur ugly oh well deal with it" is awful. How does she even know he is ugly. Beauty is objective and i hope that op from story one finds someone who sees that. I know a good handful of women who think scars and burn/ injuries are pretty hot. He cannot change how he looks but she deserved what she got coming. Theres so many people who dont stand up for themselves in those situations and i am so proud he did. I hope that your cousin can learn to be kinder and realize that what she said was indeed hateful. Im sorry but i probably wont watch episodes w her as she reminds me of my own bullies. And side note brandon i love you but that hair gel tiktok ladies husband cheated on her with another influencer who put everything on blast as well as making his own social media. No matter what was happening behind the scenes her husband cheating and that girl putting their genuine personal life out to the public is wrong

I'm glad and proud that the kid in the first story reported that girl's behavior. That stuff should be caught early. Imagine what other hurtful grifting she would keep doing. It could be that it's more complicated on her end behind the scenes, but even if it is, she's handling it the wrong way and should be held accountable. All he did was prevent her from getting an award. Also none of you are ugly!

  • @catT5236

The coupon guy story: how he grew up is kinda important info here. If he's grown up with money & has a good job now then he's being a bit weird & kind of a jerk in the restaurant. However, if he grew up poor this could be the result of that especially if food insecurity was an issue. I also think the OP is also being a bit snobby, at the restaurant when he's causing a scene I can understand being a bit embarrassed (I don't think I'd abandon the date & demand to go home though) but the shirt thing was ridiculous to get "mortified" over. Why would you be embarrassed that your partner gets good deals?

I think the cousin and Sam are thinking about it in a different way than it’s presented. She publicly wrote that she was doing this to get an award for inclusion, had she shut up and not told anyone her intentions, it would have gone away. It’s the fact that she posted saying Awh look at me doing this, I’m trying to get this award. OP isn’t the asshole for telling the association, if this is what’s getting her props, it’s false. Same with what Sam said for his example, if that Karen was the president of Diversity and being racist, HELL YEAH IM TURNING IT INTO THEIR JOB

I agree with the comments saying he is NTA for reporting her, but i have yet to see a comment really talking about the fact that the only reason she would be in the running for an award was because she created this horrible narrative that she is so generous as a (allegedly) beautiful person to be paying attention to him as an (allegedly) ugly person 1) in what universe is that something to win an award for 2) that award is completely reliant on him and he didn't even consent to it 3) imagine someone winning an award for showing you fake kindness because they percieve you as ugly and consider showing you kindness an act of charity because apparently just the way you look warrants less than basic human decency in their head. Making someone who is already treated poorly for how they look a victim of your savior complex so you can receive further praise is disgusting, she needed to be reported for that, and as the attitudes on this podcast clearly displayed today, nobody was going to come to his defense but himself.

In the cheapskate story, i do feel like she is a bit of an asshole. If she was so embarrassed by that situation, why didn't she offer to pay? I'm sure the situation was bad for him was well and she just ditched him without considering his feelings.
Paying full price in that situation would feel like being tricked into it and ruin the evening anyway. Even though i have never had restaurant vouchers, i can totally relate to that. For full price, they wouldn't have chosen that place.
I enjoy going to restaurants and my bf feels indifferent about it. So whenever we go, i pay for both of us. It would be unfair for me to force my bf to pay for experiences that are important to me but not to him.

I’m not against family channels showing kids, but it always depends on the content. It’s never good when you put up content with tantrums, kids running around in underwear or diapers etc. You should always portray your kids in a respectful way or else not at all. If you want content about your kids, you can do it like the “story time” lots of people have on tik tok where they film themself talking about it. You can talk about how you deal with their tantrum and still get views, without showing the actual tantrum or the child.

The first story is terrible. She's a terrible person and that could really mess with somebody mentally and emotionally. And I think he had every right to tell this school what she was doing was fake because it's disgusting and she shouldn't be able to profit off of doing her fake shenanigans. She should have gone out and done community service or whatever she needs to do like a normal person. She said all this up with her friends and other classmates and was putting it on social media for other people to see and for this college to see just for her own gain. That's disgusting behavior.
I know I'm not the best looking person either but you know I can't really do too much about that besides try and work on it yeah but I don't like the if he's ugly he's ugly just leave it alone. He's probably not even really that ugly or whatever he just has scars and people want to judge him for that cuz kids are mean and people are just awful. But even if he isn't conventionally attractive doesn't mean he should be exploited so that she can go to a nice college and people think that she is a nice person because she's put this all on social media

Okay, but regarding the TikTok gel lady, her name is Ashley Elliot, she’s Publicly talked about how her husband agreed and helped her with some of her content. And (if you followed the drama) when he emotionally or something else cheated on her, and the other woman publically outed all of their private information when Ashley tried to keep her information private, her (now ex) husband made a tik tok account, bashed Ashley, then deleted his account because he got a negative response. It’s crazy.
    Ashley seems genuinely nice.

The whole karma and focus on yourself thing is good and all, however it does not apply to all situations. This is one of them, yes, OP only gains satisfaction on this, however, the girl in the story gets knocked down a peg on telling the truth which might be how she improves as a person. People need to hold other people accountable.
The most basic concept of this is our justice system, if figure of authorities just believed small crimes would be turned in by karma. The world would be so much worse.
Edit: don't take the bad takes too hard, we're only human and the good thing about us is that we can always improve.

The point of having guests is listening to a lot of different people's opinions so even though I don't agree with it, it's honestly fine. Right on the beginning, you can see who the guests are and if you don't like them, just skip this week's episode. I've done it before with an old guest I cannot stand, that's fine. But bullying sippi for her opinion is gross, she's still a person, have some empathy.
