9:40 The most interesting thing about Jerry's "Rick or me" ultimatum scene to me is that the moment he said it even the kids knew she'd pick Rick. Look at their faces, they all knew the family dynamic without any need of verbal communication. And by the look on Jerry's face, Beth's silence is when he finally realised as well.

Rick brought the gun to kill her, but then felt too bad about it after she had her little speech.
he figured he could convince her she is not a clone, instead of making a new one or blowing the secret.

14:03 To clarify: This Galactic Federation is of this universe only, that's why they wanted his formula for interdimensional travel. There's a different Galactic Federation in every universe.
But the Citadel of the Counsel of Ricks is made of many Ricks from different alternate universes. There is only one Counsel of Ricks in the "Centra-finite Curve".
So now if they portal to a different dimension there will be a new Galactic Federation but no Counsel of Ricks.

@@Leeor1214 He didn't call it. It was more or less explained in the episode where we first see Evil Morty. The Central Finite Curve wasn't just established for the finale, it has been there forever. Even the Battle of Bloodridge was mentioned in season 2's finale.This is why the writers of this show are so good.
Seal Team Ricks wasn't apart of his plan. He was prepared to infiltrate the Federation as the Counselor Bug and collapse them that way. But STR showed up and he adapted to that and moved forward from there.

I like to imagine that every Rick has had their family killed or in some way screwed by the Citadel, then they get jaded and then do it to another Rick, cause who does Rick hate the most? Himself. So they ensure no version of themselves can be happy since they aren’t.
The impression I got from Rick yelling at Morty about his "origin story" being a lie was that it was at least partially true.
Bringing it up so suddenly to Morty, who wasn't even there to see it, made it seem like an actual hangup Rick has.
Well he did also mention the sauce, which morty had no idea of

The speech was entirely meta.
He wasn't speaking to just Morty; he is primarily speaking to the audience, and Morty is secondary. Rick always knows his speech at the beginning of the season has to be meta.
If you watch this episode and the Season 10 finale you can actually see that among the memories clone Beth is given is a birthday with her mom as a kid and it looks exactly like "Diane"...
...so there is some grain of truth to this origin story wherever it be.

BUTTERNUTS :D well, the actual name of the “Tales From The Citadel” episode is the Rickatlantis Mixup, so it’s correct, but I still see what you mean.
The plot twist that origin story turning out to be actually true in future seasons is actually pretty good story bit ngl
Our Rick is the infinite Rick. He is like only one who both genuinely cares about his family and because his wife and daughter died. He is the only one who wants to live, to love and protect a Beth. The other Ricks had their wives killed because it an right of passage into the infinite knowledge. He's the only one who loses his Beth so he understands life is precious. The citadel adds new Ricks for 2 reasons: 1. The pursuit of knowledge 2.they cannot stand the idea of a Rick being happy.
I think it's really about Rick closing himself off from his true emotions because he knows that nothing really matters because there are infinite universes and it depresses him because he loves his family but he knows that it doesnt "matter"
I think once he left the Brainalizer he'd have just destroyed the Galactic Government. Morty and Summer told the Citadel of Ricks where he was, and Seal Team Ricks (love that name, btw) interrupted him getting the Level 9 password and just... doing it.
He said to the bug that was interrogating him in his head that he was leaving it with 6 years of improv workshops, thus he forgot how to improvise. Teleporting the Citadel to the prison was his Plan B.
I dont understand the confusion about Beth and Jerry's relationship. Beth (in seasons 1 and 2) had fundamental problems with aspects of Jerry's personality (specifically with how spineless he was in important situations). Just cause they have a good day or therapy session or whatever, it wont matter if Beth still hates those aspects of Jerry's personality cause his personality didnt change (except in cronenberg world). Even whe they made up and had good moments, Beth will eventually get sick of Jerry after a few months of seeing him do things she hates over an over again. This is why their relationship was always rocky in the first few seasons, they never fixed their problems (not until the end of season 3).
Also Beth has stated mutiple times in previous seasons that if she had to choose between her dad and Jerry she would choose her dad "so don't make me choose" or "you already know the answer" lmao

What if Rick's origin story is true. He invented the dimensional gun after Dianne and Beth were killed. He then went searching for them in other dimensions and moving in with them in those dimensions where the Ricks disappeared/we're gone.

My theory is the only fake thing about that origin story was the color of his pants. It was a true story, but by making his pants a different color, it was a "fabricated" story. Why else would they include that erroneous detail?

I thought it might of been since the pants he was wearing were the same colour as Morty's, and it was hinting at the Morty is Rick theory? I'm not too sure though.
That jumping between looking for his original Beth made me think maybe he's also one of the only Ricks to lose his family due to early experiments, which could also be why he resents the others and their organization that relies on that travel (also works for if back story was true on why he wouldn't like the council of Ricks, since it was one of them that murdered his family)
Nah, he says in his speech to Morty at the end that it was all fake.

These are the two most important guys in her life, if she told Rick to leave the family he would never come back.
She chose Rick because she was afraid that she would lose him forever, Jerry would come back (like Lassie) because there is no one else in this world and he is cute and stupid and she loves him just like that.
I may be wrong but I think the show creators were given a gallon of Szechuan sauce by McDonald's after this episode.

I still believe the origin story he gave the bug was more or less legit. Explains some inconsistencies in the timeline and makes a lot of sense for the character to me. But the creators will likely never commit to an origin story lol
