If anyone hasn't read the comics I highly recommend them, while Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon don't like coming to previous ideas, the comics have no problem bringing stuff back like the meeseeks and the before-mentioned Doofus rick. I mean that issue I was talking about before has Doofus Rick's Jerry literally take over the citadel of Ricks and another has Rick become a Drug Lord by using Meeseeks as dealers, check em out
I think the comics aren't part of the show. They take place in dimension C-132, not C-137 where the show is. They did this to avoid conflict and give the comic writers more freedom.

Concerning the "time travel box" you mentioned several times and time travel itself in all the other discussions: The creator of the show himself said the box is like an easter egg because they don't plan to ever go into time travel, he said he really thinks every idea possible concerning time travel has been done already so basically that wouldn't be creative enough. Don't forget the idea of time travel is around since before 1900 even.

The thing I love about this show is all the subtle hints at a deeper storyline. For example, in this episode where we see in ricks memories him picking up a baby morty.
This is the episode that raise a lot of question and fan theories like who is Evil Morty, why he was framing Rick C137 but kill every other Rick, why Rick have a memory of baby Morty when he supposed to be gone for 20 years....
The main Rick in the show not getting along with the others makes me think of Doctor Who and the other time lords. Plus the eye patch reminded me of the eye drives used to remember the Silence.

It’s interesting to see the level of tech that Rick achieves as the show progresses. At the start, Interdimentional travel is his crowning accomplishment, and it still is to a degree, but early on there’s still a lot of things that go wrong, especially when you see “Evil” Rick get killed by all the Mortys in this episode. Later on we see Rick have energy shields, laser weapons, Iron-Man armor, cybertech implants, etc. Late Rick is neigh immortal.

He also said he had thought about a version of eye patch morty's cloaking plan, but had "never followed through". Was he just sayin that so Morty wouldn't be mad? Did he actually try that on his original morty? Is Eye Patch Morty the original Morty out for revenge on that Rick, making a statement using that same experiment to the extreme?
