    Happy New Year, Dennis. As an ex-Nikon shooter (D2Xs) with all the 2.8 glass who moved across to Olympus some years ago, I am pleased for you and your top-of-the-line move back to Nikon. For me, the reality is that I simply could not afford to follow in your footsteps. In fact, all my budget allows is the OM1 and, for birding, the 300/4 and 40-150/2.8 plus 1.4TC. This yields results that are good enough to make me happy in the context of my amateur photography. There would be a different justification for a professional like yourself.
    Your pictures are gorgeous, by the way.

      Same to you and thanks! 🙂 i am also happy with the results of the OM-1 but i want to dive more in to sports photography in the future and here the OM-1 has its limits! also the DOF of Z9 and 400mm f/2.8 looks amazing

    Welcome back to the Nikon world, Dennis :-) The Z9 and the top-of-line long tele-primes are fantastic and the kit you got now is a dream kit for sure! I went from (but keept) a D500/200-500mm kit through Z8/200-500mm/FTZ to now a Z8/600mm PF kit; it doesn't have the f/2.8 and f/4 you have, but in terms of weight, it is actually a bit lighter than your OM1/150-400mm, as far as I can tell (Nikon 910g+1470g=2380g; Olympus 599g+1875g=2479 -- both including batteries and tripod collars). The image quality is really good with the PF lens, better than the 200-500mm and I really enjoy the lower weight (from 200-500/FTZ to 600 PF saves 955g) and it also has a MUCH better weight distribution. So you may consider adding a Z8 as your backup some day and perhaps a 600PF for a lightweight kit or a 800PF for more reach... See you out there soon again, I guess, in the neighbourhood!

    I’m hoping the G9 II will have better results as new firmware is released. Congratulations on the new Nikon! If I had that sort of money lying around, the Z9 would definitely be on top of mind. Although I do hope you end up keeping the OM1. Would be nice to see it go head to head with the larger full frame

    Great choice and I would have gone similar route if my back health is up for it. Beside, I am doing this just as a hobby. I do sell my works from time to time when someone wants to buy them. But I never in the market to sell any of them, it was random. Anyhow, I still do hope OMDS would update the FW to improve its AF variability as well as video AF improvement. But so far, I have more trouble deleting my images than finding the keepers :-). Anyhow, best of luck Dennis and I am for sure will continue to follow your great works! You’ve settled on one of the best wildlife cameras made by the hand of man. However when I went down the FF wildlife path, I found for me at least as a simple enthusiast, that I just wasn’t motivated to get out and shoot with such a large heavy kit.
    I also returned the G9II after one day as well for the same reasons. I’m looking forward to following your journey further.

    I've been eyeballing the Z8 with the 180-600, closer to my price range (maybe even in it this year lol). The fact that precapture only works in JPEG is kind of a bummer for me. Hopefully RAW will be added in a firmware update!

    I’ve been very tempted to switch to Nikon. Sony’s ;ack of firmware development for the A1 is a major disappointment. Nikon have been developing the Z9 to the point where it matches or exceeds the A1 and Nikon’s lens line up is way ahead of the competition. I love the built in Tics on full frame big glass. Looking forward to seeing how you get on with the new gear.

    • @ZioComposite
      @ZioComposite 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm split on both tbh
      Sony - They release the camera as indicated which functions fully. While firmware for general fixes and etc. are provided, they don't do major updates. New bodies get most of not all the technology moving forward though.
      Nikon - They release camera with most functions working. Need continous updates for them to reach full functionality.
      As a consumer, which fits your needs is really going to vary and need to do homework.

    hi Dennis
    A child can tell you that a full frame camera performs better than an M 4/3. It is not the Olympus lenses (OM systems) that are the problem, but the censor of the M 4/3 system. this has to do with the censor size. the larger the censor, the more light falls on it. the smaller. the censor is the less light that enters. Moreover, even in low light you can take fantastic photos with the Om-1 camera. the difference is in the man behind the camera. not into the camera.
    Kind regards

      @DennisJacobsenWildlife  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad you could clarify some camera basics 😉 i can shoot good photos with both systems but MFT has it limits and i knew this when i got into the system, but now im ready to get the benefits of FF again 🙂 Cropping, shallow DOF, Low light performance, especially when i need a high shutterspeed etc. thanks for your comment!

    Hi always watch your channel, I shoot OM1 + G9M2. My question is, how much better is the Z9/A1 for AF BIF?

    • @DennisJacobsenWildlife
      @DennisJacobsenWildlife  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks 🙂 I haven't had enough time with Z9 yet but A1 was superior in BIF to OM-1 for more reasons! 1: A1´s AF is blazing fast and precise and almost all the photos in a big bursts was in focus with "normal birds" by that i mean not SUPER fast and small 😀 2: With 50mp files you can crop ALOT and you dont have to photograph the birds so tight in the frame so its easier to get the AF lock and then just crop in! on MFT you need to shoot them larger in the frame to get the really detailed shoots and thats much harder. But it can be done, i made some great shoots with OM-1 og BIF. One situation i remember was Black terns! they are super fast and i have been to a location i Sweden multiple time with both A1 and OM-1 and the Terns shoot with the A1 has WAY more details in them despite shoot in the same light, distance and so on. Im not saying the OM-1 photos look bad, but they are just not A1 quality.
      Best regards
      Dennis

    Nikon is excellent. I used multiple systems for a long time, and precisely the Nikon and OM combination. I have also used Sony and was happy with the results but dissatisfied with the usability and experience in general. For me it was never a choice about what unique equipment I should have, but rather what equipment I should use in a specific situation. My wife likes apsc, and I use FF in specific situations and MFT for fun. I love being in nature and hiking, swimming and climbing. Taking my FF equipment on these occasions didn't give me any fun. I only use FF for Wildlife in very specific situations. But I couldn't stick with just one system. I love them all and they all have their uses.

    Hi Dennis, you moved to OM systems from Sony because of the weight and now you moved to Nikon Z9 is much heavier system both the body and lenses compare to Sony, can you tell me what is the reason?I am using Sony a1 and for same reason I bought the OM-1 and 150-400 pro lens.For me the high mega pixel of a1 is game changer and most of the time I am using the a1 with 600mm f4 with TC 1.4.Do you think Nikon has a better AF system?

    • @DennisJacobsenWildlife
      @DennisJacobsenWildlife  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Victor, well i did want something lighter at the time and more versatile and that i got in the OM-1 + 150-400mm but of cource nothing beats the FF systems out there today in speed and quality! The A1 is still the best camera i have used for bird photos but the Z9 is very close and its a better hybrid camera + it has more features than A1. Also the 400mm with build in TC made me go Nikon again because i will start shoot more sports and its a perfect lens for everything 😁 but i still think the Olympus 150-400mm f4.5 is a master piece and if the the OM-1 could perform as the A1 or Z9 it would be the perfect kit! Had hoped for a OM-1 mark II with more than a new logo and a bigger buffer 😉 but actually im working on a comparison of the Z9 vs OM-1 and the little MFT kit is performing better than expected against Z9 😂
