Since then I have learnt a number of tips, parts, accessories and mindsets that are extremely helpful in staying safe when riding adventure motorcycles off-road.     Well said brother. I feel you on point number one. Every single "cosest calls" I've had on the 790 are because of the damn tank slappers. Thankfully it's been while going straight down a chattery bit of dirt road at, 120k's+, instead of a turn like yourself. I've kept telling myself that I'm not weighting the front properly or the suspension isn't set up quite right, but this video assured it for me that the stock stabilizer is dog water. Too bad the proper stabilizers are so expensive, this vid has made me swear to myself to not go more than 100 on gravel/dirt untill I can get one of those.
    Keep up the great vids, you're crushing it as of late! Not gonna lie I didn't even know you were injured for some reason, I've been following for a few years but either the algorithim didn't tell me or I missed it somehow. Glad you're okay now, and crushing it on the beauty 790. Cheers🍻
    Edit* One tip I can add to your already great tips; I ride with a small (maybe the size of a tennis ball), emergency bivy bag or space blanket. Hypothermia sets in quick if you're hurt and unable to leave. When you're in the mountains/wrong spot/weather roles in. On top of that SAR can take a long time to get to you if the conditions are not safe for them.

      Yeh mate the stabiliser is a big one - I had never used one before and was hesitant because of the price, but I can say I am definitely enjoying it. Even in normal riding conditions I like dialling in stiffer steering, it adds so much more stability to the front end which means the chassis and suspension can work properly.
      Biggest thing has been just slowing down a bit as mentioned. Have barely dropped the bike in the last year of riding, it’s amazing the difference.
      Bivy bag/blanket is a good idea, reckon I’ll add one to my med kit.

      Thanks mate, the 75% rule is the most effective but also the hardest to stick to - the old ego likes to encourage silly decisions 🤣

    I went on a 2-weeks offroad motorbike trip in Mongolia this July. Was absolutely fantastic. However, on the 3rd riding day I followed some fellow bikers too close. The dust clouds were carried to the left until there was a right turn which kept me in a huge dust cloud where I couldn't see at all. Hence, I had a hard crash from an unseen ditch. I bruised or even broke a rib (was not clearly diagnosable after returning home some 10 days later). Anyway, your 75% tip plus keeping enough distance in dusty conditions would definitely have prevented my crash. The more so when in remote areas. I still could continue the next 10 days but any deeper lateral ditch hurt like crazy. (Same when coughing, sneezing and laughing.) But as you can imagine: it was just too much fun, so I could never have allowed me to quit riding.

    I just recovered from breaking my wrist riding off-road, how do you get the confidence back to ride? As soon as I pickup speed and the road gets bumpy, I am panicking a bit.

      Couple of things. First, I took full ownership of the crash I had - that way I knew getting back on my bike it was down to me to make safe, responsible decisions. Second, I focused heavily on my technique and made sure I fixed any issues I had and aimed to improve. Lastly, I stick to the 75% rule - so I only ride 75% of what I capable of. If you start to panic, just back down the speed, focus on your technique and aim to find a flow where you can enjoy the ride. It’s all about having a big smile on our face, not how fast we go!

    alpinestars tech air 5 saved me from shattering my shoulder on an off road highside. I highly suggest investing in one.

      @@TheMotoBarista tech air 5 is actually the older version. It's made for street use with only "light offroad" application. It's good for adv riders who aren't doing crazy MX riding. It's worth the big price tag.

    Great video mate! I'm surprised with the wisdom spoken, especially for your age. I had a bad fall on my mountain bike 3 years ago. I was attacked by two German Shepard dogs and flew over the handlebars resulting in a grade 5 AC separation. I was in physical therapy for almost year learning how to use my right arm again. Now, I have to lift weights for the rest of my life to compensate for the torn ligaments. I can't help but feel nervous when I crash, because I don't want the same thing to happen on my left side. So far, the body armor (with shoulder plates) seems to be doing it's job. I crash all the time and seem to naturally roll. Good luck with the 500 EXC. I didn't know Honda's aren't available in AU.       Thanks mate, yeh a big life altering crash will knock some wisdom into you 🤣
      I hear you about the damaged shoulder tendons, I am the same. I have to lift weight/pull ups constantly to retain strength and reduce pain in the shoulder. I have also found yoga and swimming to be the biggest help!
      Looking forward to the 500 but will wait for the 2024 models next year as they will have the new engines and frames!

    Have you tried Axoc protection? Similar to 3DO but much more flexible...haven't tried myself yet

    Awesome tips, thanks to share this. I also have an accident recently broken collarbone, exactly for what you mention the front tire start Wobble when i get into mountain of deep sand and gravel at 80km/h
    Small question about the steering damper
    my ktm 1290 has a hyperpro rsc steering damper that is adjustable in 24 clicks I was trying to found how to set up it in different terrains, sand, gravel, mud.
    I don't know if put it on hard/tighter position is good or rather bad in these situations in deep sand or gravel? Or in gravel/sand roads. Putting it too hard can limit the self-alignment of the front wheel, the same effect as if I were holding it too tight?
    Any recommendations of adjustment in different terrains?

      I run my steering damper quite stiff at all times just because I like the feeling of the steering and it removes twitchy front feel. If I was riding through deep sand I would turn up even stiffer.
      The front wheel will still track through but won’t be pulled from left to right as violently and the forces will be dampened into your handlebars.
