- This will work for 2004 (not Heritage), 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 models. Newer models may be the same but I haven't researched those.
*Requires Windows Laptop... or a desktop and an extension cord :)
Step 1: Buy Transponder Keys and USB OBD2 Tool online
Step 2: Get keys cut at Home Depot, ACE Hardware, or Local Locksmith
Step 3: Install forscan and program the keys

Amazing job on this video. The process went a little differently than you described, but you got me close enough that it was simple enough to figure out .Probably the highest value video I've ever seen on TH-cam. You saved me a ton of money. I really appreciate the information. I spent just over $20 on a key, a fob, and the OBDII USB cable. My local Lowe's cut the key at no charge, since the guy told me you pay for the key not the cutting. As a bonus, the FOR Scan software, that I didn't even know was available to the public, helped me diagnose the AC problem on my other truck. I searched for hours and your video was the only video I found that helped me out. Way to go. Keep up the great work!

Worked great for my 2006 and 2011 F150. On the 2011 it prompted to insert the new key before the 12 minute wait but still worked fine.

Very helpful thank you, want to do this to my 2008 Mazda 2, I bought a v1.4 Elm 327 500k wired adaptor with hi-can switch years ago but never needed to use it on my old Mazda 3 but my new Mazda 2 only had 1 none remote key when I bought it, FORscan connects to my car and shows pats programing and currently have 2 keys stored, I have a lot more options for pats showing on my FORscan but it is showing "program ign key" which is what I need as I ain't erasing keys so will use that as soon a my new oem keys come.

I just did this today. I used a similar ELM 327. I also went to Home Depot with some blanks I brought in, and they cut it for free using the “old machine” they had. I have new 2 keys and only spent $40!

Great stuff! A few instructions in the tutorial have changed, but it’s pretty straightforward. The program now needs to be downloaded and installed first. You’ll click the bottom left button once the program starts up, and it will give you the ID. You’ll then create an account and register that ID.
Bought a key on eBay for $10, an OBDII tool for another $10, took the key to ACE and they cut it for free. $20. Sure as hell beats the dealership wanting $200.
Yeah it's funny because if the dealership was reasonable they could charge $30 a key and people would pay it.
You are lucky getting some one to cut one so easily. I went to through 4 different places before I could get some to just cut the key. Most places just refuse to do it for you.

I got rid of it a few months ago. The frame was rusted and the floors rotted away. It ticked the whole 7 years I owned it. Rust took it before mechanical failure.
Homedepot can cut the keys u bring in the problem is they cant charge u for ur own property so they say they cant cut them. I've had 2 keys cut in the past 2yrs

hi, this is some really good info. Can this program work on other vehicles such as BMW, Mercedes and Audi? Also is there any other way to program a key using a duplicate?
This will only work if the car uses fords pats system, FORscan is designed for Ford, Mazda, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles.
This is a very good video. I was able able to program one key without any problems. The second key will not program even when using either the original key or the newly programmed key. Any help / suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
If it's just a cheap eBay/Amazon special key then odds are that you got a bad key.
Wait so you have to register And then wait for approval to make a key that will actually start the car. Also was not aware that the key would turn but not start a car like that. Thanks for the education

Great video. Can you explain why this will not work on the 2004 Heritage, which is what I have.
The heritage is just a 2003 that they rebadged for a half year run in 04. You'll need to follow instructions for a 2003 with the older key system.

Once the success message pops up from the program you can just unplug it.

Went to the home Depot in Kerrville TX, hoping to get my new keys cut. The one neanderthal I dealt with acted like I was stealing a car 😂. I'll just buy my own machine.
Yeah Home Depot is a gamble. A locksmith can cut the keys but then they have their own issues because they often offer these same programming services.

Will I need the laptop connected to the internet while in the car executing the PATS programming? Everything is all preinstalled and ready just like u do in ur video.. all downloads and installs complete...
Don’t think I need internet access while programming but want to make sure and ask..
It doesn't download anything to work, but you may need to connect periodically due to the license validation of the software.
So these are transponder keys?
I figured if you put one of those keys in the ignition without it being programmed to the vehicle it would set off the alarm.
You don't need to subscribe to the Forscan Forum in order to get the software....
however, you do need a key in order to access these higher level features of the software....the alternative is to pay a $12 annual subscription to program keys, fobs, etc. Although, $12/yr is cheap considering all you can do with the software.
I'm gonna have to do this on my 2005 Ford Taurus because it only has 1 key, and to my knowledge doesn't have remote keyless entry but I don't think there's any way to find that out, but don't care if it does or not honestly, it runs/drives and gets me around, I just feel better having a spare key in case I lock my key in it LOL...not that I've ever done that before...yeah right LOL.
Supposedly you can program a key without the software by simply putting the unprogrammed key in the ignition, turning it on and letting it set for about 10 minutes, then turn off the key, then back on and repeat the ignition on for 10 minutes process, turn off the ignition, remove the key, reinsert the key, and it should start...gonna try that first to see if it works, otherwise I'll go to the ole Forscan software LOL. Figured what the heck, got the car, needs a 2nd key, may as well experiement LOL.

I'm not familiar with that adapter, I'm unsure if it supports hs-can mode. I would contact their support and verify. You could always try it and if it doesn't support it forscan will tell you.

I believe the 2001 has a different type of key with its own procedure.
So I went to home depot to get my blanks cut they said "we can't cut keys that are not from inside the store
Hey, I'm stuck at the part where I have to install the Driver into the system. I go into the setup properties but nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?
If it's not loading the file properties, and you've extracted the file as shown in the video, something on your windows install may be corrupted. Do file properties open for any file type? You can actually skip the step of checking the digital signature if you are 100% sure you are downloading the driver from the manufacturers website.

Everything is plugged in properly, WiFi is connected.
My driver install didn’t come from the “setup.exe” like urs but I did get that window for install, uninstall, and it said the drivers were installed with success. Switch is on hs...
What am I doing wrong?
Open device manager from start menu and look for the adapter in the list of devices. See if there is an exclamation point next to it. If so, right click on it and hit properties. It will show an error code on that screen.
Do the new keys have to be with the ford logo to work because the keys I got from Amazon don’t work
Mine were aftermarket with the Ford logo. The quality on these keys varies wildly.

There are a few other options in the FOR Scan software under the PATS programing. I'm sure one of them applies to creating all new keys. I'd do more research and be sure before you start playing around there.
This video was incredibly helpful! I just had success with 2 new keys from Amazon. One thing was tripping me up that I want to comment about that may help others:
The dialog that pops up at 9:49 about counter of programmed keys.
I was doing like you and just clicking ok hoping that the count would increase - it didn't, and I tried a bunch of times with both new keys.
It was hard to tell exactly what the dialog was telling you to try, so I did this:
After the dialog pops up, leave it open. Then, turn the key in the ignition to Off, wait a few seconds and then turn it back to On. Then click ok on the dialog box. Boom! That increased the key counter for me. Worked for both of my new keys! I hope that helps someone.
Also, as much as it seems like you should, don't enable unlimited keys. That made programming fail.

Hey man when I get ready to install the driver, do I need to have the bbfly adapter connected to my laptop?
Either way will work. The installer just adds the driver to the windows Driver Store. Windows Plug and play framework takes care of the rest.

@@striker1211 Hey man I have one more question, so I had to order a new PCM for my f150 and they did program it back to my original vin for the truck and they did tell me that I’m going to have to get the keys reprogrammed. So will this process that you’re doing here reprogram the keys to the new PCM?
@@striker1211 I got it fixed, you know the option where you can erase and program keys, that does work because I had to erase mine out of the Pats and reprogram all of them in order to get mine working.
I tried this but the programming failed when I put in the new key. Any idea how I can figure why it failed?

What if you lost all the chip keys that came with the vehicle? Now I only have nonchip duplicates I previously made for when I lock my keys in the car. Guess I’m fucked huh?
It's been a while since I did this but I seem to remember that you needed at least one chipped key. Mobile locksmiths might have the tool to reprogram the computer and save you a tow though.
There are several options in the FOR Scan software under PATS. I'm sure one of them is for creating all new keys from nothing. You probably need to do more research before messing around in there.

Followed your instructions but it didn't work for my 2003 F150 Harley Davidson. After searching I came across this video: th-cam.com/video/72kRKVV0aJ0/w-d-xo.html which showed me that for the older trucks you have to erase all keys and then program the 2 you have (including the one original that works). Just wanted to let people know that your way works for the 2005 models but it's different for the older trucks. Thank you for the video and information!
