Next time try cycling cycling the ignition 8 times and on the 8th time leave it on the on position at that point the doors will unlock and unlock and then press any of the four buttons on the remote you want to program and it should work
I did this to my 00 Lincoln town car. . . With no working key's. I removed the ignition switch on my car and a parts car that had a key. .. . Took the replacement transponder keys to home Depot and had them cut to match the ignition switch. ($.99 each). Then programed them using for scan+ the OBD2 / USB adapter that has the switch on it.. ( the non switchable type will not work for PATS ) .
If you have two working programmed keys, you don’t need to use ForScan at all to program. You can do the procedure I show around 9:20 that’s in the owners manual. It’s much quicker and easier to make extra keys this way when you have two already.
Thanks for making this video. I am workin on a 2000 ranger and only have 1 key. Trying to add just 1 additional key using forscan has not been successful. Im trying to work up rhe courage to "erase all and reprogram" My 04 f150 i was able to add keys to using this dame setup no problem, but the 00 ranger must have a different protocal or something
@@jackmama79 unfortunately I’m not much help for this process outside of the 99-04 Mustangs I’ve tried it on. I can definitely sympathize with you for not wanting to pull the trigger on a full “erase and program” . Wish I had more info for you.
@@Mustang5L5 Thanks for replying. Got brave enough to try it and it eventually worked after trying a few different keys from this stack I had I found two that the truck would allow me to program in.
I tried adding a key, and I got a message that the " PATs Programming Failed", it said it had only 4 keys stored the owner's manual said you could program up to 8. I'm scared to erase all the keys (I have 1 that works) do you have any thoughts?
Any chance you are selecting “ignition key programming” rather than “erase and program keys”? at 6:15. Could also be communication issues with ForScan, the computer and the vehicle. You need the USB interface that can be switched between HS-can and MS-can. The non-switchable type will not work for PaTS as another commenter has pointed out. I agree, it’s definitely intimidating doing this because you don’t know if it will work. I can only say have a backup plan in place like calling a locksmith and doing it when it’s most convenient for that. And you are correct you can program up to 8 but I would plan to just use ForScan to program the first 2 and then program the rest using the method in the owners manual.
I tried this on my 03 mustang, with the same adapter that you have, but it keeps telling me "Unable to connect to vehicle. Please make sure the ignition is ON and try again." Any advice?
Are you able to connect to any Ford vehicle using it? You also need to make sure the HS/MS-can switch is in the correct position when you make your initial connection to the vehicle. If it's switched the wrong way, you will also get that same error. If it's not that, it may be a driver issue.
@@dronedoutrc5970 I don’t know exactly as I’ve only done this on 99-04 Mustang. However some folks are chiming in and saying it works on other vehicles too. Since you don’t have any programmed keys anyway, I assume you don’t have much to lose here
between this video and th-cam.com/video/NVTXLQWlfaA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=fUV_AgJgT5eqPFiU I managed to reprogram my 'new' junkyard instrument cluster, the milaeage may be a little higher now but at least it works thank you guys so much for posting
Worked great! I was hesitant to hit erase all keys but it worked perfectly!
Very helpful.

So if I just have 2 keys do I still do erase and program since I just wanna add one key?

@@Mustang5L5 I tried it on an 08 Expedition and it worked fine. I just cant get to work on the mustang.
Will this work if you have no keys programmed at all. I lost my keys
Yes. The process erases all known keys and starts from scratch. The catch is you need to program at least 2 good keys.
@@Mustang5L5 awesome, that was my plan is to get to new blanks and do them both. And thank you for the help
@@Mustang5L5 it is for a 2006 ford taurus. That should be fine to do no?
