    GREAT! video Justin, I have watched other methods, where people have to lay under the car, and disconnect a line with fluid going all over the place .while the other person, starts the car and turns the wheel back and forth......WHAT A MESS! your method is easy brezzy .. and CLEAN! it appears that you never spilled a drop . again THANK YOU ! for your contribution to our TH-cam community.

    Great “how to video “. Nice job showing folks how to improvise by using what’s on hand.

    Your method definitely works. I have to tell though how I improved the "plastic bottle technique". I used the "plastic water hose technique". Basically after using a plastic syringe with a straw attached to it to remove the reservoir's old fluid, I attached a 4' cut-off piece of a regular plastic water hose to the power steering hose. It was an exact fit! I then started the car and moved the wheel left and right like you did. All the left over fluid was collected on a container that I had under the car. Thanks again!

    I am glad I found your video. I have been having some issues with my Santa Fe whining after being on the highway for a little bit and it's also very hot today. My fluid is definitely filthy. So I am going to give it a shot. Same make and model as yours.

    Had all the symptoms you described! and every video I saw was change the pump or the pulley. Never thought about just flushing and getting new oil.

      Did you do it yet? If so, did it fix the problem?

    Many thanks for the video, one point to mention is that between the inlet and outlets on the reservoir there is a fine filter, be careful when sucking out the oil from the reservoir that you do not puncture this filter. I did and am now replacing the reservoir.

    Here's a tip, put the front of the car on jack stands and pull the parking brake lever so the won't roll back. Now you can move the steering wheel from left to right easily with no resistance. Also put in Prestone Full Synthetic Power Steering Fluid for Asian Vehicles.

      No clue. I think there's a screen in the reservoir.

    Thanks for posting. I have the same Santa Fe but mine is a '04 with the 4 cylinder. Does the same thing also. I'll definitely be doing the same thing when the time allows me to.

    I plan on doing this tomorrow. which hose did you unhook, the one that sucks out fluid to the power steering pump or the return hose? Or does it even matter?

    • @becausestuffbreaks
      @becausestuffbreaks  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It matters. I think it's the return hose. I should show it in the video.

    • @vanessaalessi-sourbeck3217
      @vanessaalessi-sourbeck3217 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I see which one you do but I think my hoses are on top of each other, not next to each other. I will check in morning, way too cold to run outside@ THanks for responding and thanks for the video.

    I just flushed my power steering on my 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe. I didn't want to make the baster/tubing contraption. You just have disconnect the return hose going into the reservoir and the fluid will pour out. Then just make sure to put a cup or some small container underneath it to catch the fluid. You are going to remove the hose anyway. So might as well skip the other step.

    Thanks. I have an 06 Tucson that made noise this morning as soon as I started the car. It was cold outside so I dunno. Wanted to flush the liquid when I got the car but couldn't figure out how to reach the inside with a baster.

    Did you have any issues with your pump by using the Prestone? It asked for PS-3 fluid.

    Great video Justing, Quick question, how come you didn't you start the car?

    • @becausestuffbreaks
      @becausestuffbreaks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Ahmed Elzoghabi if you're talking about the part where some people start the car after sucking all the fluid out, I don't like the idea of running the system without fluid. The way I did it at least gets most of the fluid and doesn't run the system dry and cause damage to the pump.

    Just fill it with fluid with the cap off and turn the wheel hard to the left then hard to the right continue until no more noise. Same thing with a lot less work.

    Was the car making noise before? My Santa Fe fluid is boiling over. I'm hoping this flush will fix the problem

    • @becausestuffbreaks
      @becausestuffbreaks  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It only made noise when it was hot outside and after a long drive in the over 100 deg weather.

    • @flipemlikebirds

      Man I'm confused by the PSF-3. Have you had any issues since you added that Prestone?

    • @becausestuffbreaks
      @becausestuffbreaks  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not yet but O'Reilly and AutoZone told me I could use regular power steering fluid. I wasn't sure about that and that's why I asked both places. I don't know how credible they are. I seen PSF-3 on Amazon for a decent price: www.amazon.com/Genuine-Kia-UM011-CH051-Steering-Fluid-3/dp/B00AKYOKQQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1473187668&sr=8-2&keywords=psf-3

    • @flipemlikebirds
      @flipemlikebirds 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear you. They told me the same thing "that regular power steering fluid would work. PSF 3 was them trying to get you to buy their brand." He wasn't very convincing though. Thanks for making the video in the first place though man. Helpful stuff. If I turn up any info about what you actually need, I'll let you know.

    • @Boom10ful
      @Boom10ful 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The boiling over problem is most likely caused by a blocked power steering filter. In the video he showed the inside of the power steering filter and there is a mesh screen inside the reservoir. You can't clean it so a reservoir is the only way. Luckily, they're only like $14 online.

    Justin the little yellow plastic tank that holds the power steering fluid is leaking from under I think since the bottom area is all wet. Could this mean I have to change the plastic or just the hose. (Def going to change the steering fluid) I don’t know if it might be the cause let me know your opinion. I have the same make and model as yours.

    • @becausestuffbreaks
      @becausestuffbreaks  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be either one. The hose might be old and not making a tight seal or cracking. Maybe the reservoir is cracked. Might be able to get away with just a small hose clamp on it. Let me know what you find. Thanks for watching!

    • @michaeltinishanay655
      @michaeltinishanay655 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Justin Peters thanks for your quick response Justin. So after getting a second look it seems the reservoir is leaking from the bottom as it’s spilling from underneath it and down. I also think the power steering liquid might have gotten dense because of the heat since my car has been making noises when I’m on the road. I brought a few tools and will experiment following what you did in this video but thing is I have to replace the reservoir first before applying the new power steering liquid. I will notify you of my results. Your videos are very helpful.

      Justin Peters just wanted to update you. I used your method and it worked like a charm. I think I might not have sealed the cap well which caused it to leak. Since I changed the power steering oil the steering has gotten smoother. However that isn’t the major problem as I still have my AC blowing a little warm air.

    Hyundai use Valvoline power steering fluid , PSF 3 is the old version or PSF-4 is the new version , Hyundai made it up to sell their own product.
