Watched several other videos on same topic and appreciate your attention to detail; particularly cleaning the area, replacing return line, and cleaning reservoir. I know who I would choose to work on my car if I couldn't.
Someone years ago mentioned if you can't raise your wheels off the ground . To put two pieces of thick / heavy cardboard on the ground in front of your front tires and drive onto them . So , when you are turning your wheels , the tires won't get torn up , on concrete / asphalt . Here in the USA I had a 2011 Camry and it got totaled in an accident 2020 . It was in very good condition in comparison to yours .
Nice video, I didn't know about this method and I have been working as a mechanic for 17 years. Looks really simple without making a mess. The best method I've come across before learning this, was to turn engine with starter motor, but without starting (disconnecting injectors, CKPS or similar), thus running the pump at a much slower rpm, that is what Kia stated in the Shop Manual for bleeding air out of power steering after disassembly on an older model. Nowadays all cars I work on professionaly has electric power steering, but my own cars have hydraulic.
@@AliMECHI'm curious why isn't the car running while you flush out the old fluid? Is it because it can burn the power steering pump up or a different reason?
When you doing flush, air bubbles gets in the system and if you turn on the engine the draining from reservoir will be so fast and you can't keep up with filling, making so much mess and it's not good to run the pump with having air bubbles in the system, that's why, engine off when doing flush till you see new new fluid comes out
Nice video thanks for sharing. You make it look real easy. I think I can do the job. Video is straight to the point and clearly covers all the required steps in perfect detail. Thank you again friend.
@@willysir8836 when you put fluid in reservoir you turn the steering right and left while the engine off. But, I did while engine on and get in hurry turn it off before fluid empty. Otherwise your technic look easier.
Great video, I really liked the way you did not run the engine the entire time just to turn the wheels. I hate seeing other people run their engine which also makes the fluid go flying out too fast.
Very useful and helpful video. I actually did my 2002 chevy trailblazer power steering fluid change by sucking the old fluid with a 20ml syringe and adding new fresh fluid, run the car, steer the wheel from lock to lock. Suck and add new. I repeated this process 4 times. I can definitely see the big difference between before and after.
I just suction res, clean the filter (if it has one) and fill with new fluid. Do it every 6 months and you'll always have good fluid flowing around the system.
Ali, great video! I like how you keep things simple. My power steering fluid change was a success. However the new power steering hose clamp did not provide enough pressure and I got a leak. The OEM clamp was so old it broke… I had to find one from the junkyard. All good now thanks!
Alimech:- we never knew this, your video gave us good idea, & clarity, as of stearing should be in good condition that you given a demo direction thanks.
Thank you for the great video, very much appreciated!! I flushed a 2003 Toyota Highlander and will flush my 2003 Pontiac Vibe when the new return line comes in. Your technique is very though and not too difficult of a process after watching video a few times.
After you started the engine, the fluid went dark again. I found this happened to a car I worked on also. As a mechanic, this is caused by the high pressure hose (internal lining) deteriorating and going into the fluid. Best to change this line, also while you're at it
Oil in the pump is not circulating by this method in the video. So that volume gets mixed.. still good enough. The pump has high flow so trying his method with engine on is not advisable.. it will spill oil crazy fast and you must add oil to reservoir very fast.
Great video. Wondering how there is air in the lines if you removed the old fluid with new fluid? Also when I attempt to jack up the front wheels and bleed with the car off it never ends. I’ve tried going lock to lock for hours. The only way I can eliminate bubbles is by running the car and going lock to lock.
The cheapest hack for the jack is to put two thick plastic bags under the front tyres and then turn the wheels it will be much easier to turn the wheels !
In principle would a steering box on my jeep pump fluid when steering lock to lock? I can't wait to try this. If it works the same it's a great procedure!
Thank you for your video. After I watched your video and others, I flushed out the old fluid and replaced with new fluid. Then, My Tacoma 2011 works OK, but My Sienna 2005 has problem with noise when starting the engine. What is cause such noise?
When you have bubbles, after you filled up the reservoir, you turn the wheels right to left until air is gone, but with the engine turned off or on? Thank you!
Thanks for Video, super helpful. I wanted to ask question. I recently replaced my power steering pump on Lexus ES 350 2008 model, but the supply hose keeps breaking where it connects to the pump, I"ve so far changed two three within 3 days. Any idea why this keeps happening ?
Question: Are you sure about using carb cleaner on the plastic power steering reservoir? I know you mentioned in another video to not use carb cleaner on plastic - but use Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner.
