I gave up in frustration on decorating almost from the beginning of playing Starfield. When I spent hours decorating my first home on Akila and came back to it only to find pretty much every item had sunk into their respective tables/shelves. So, thank you very much for all those tips! I may give decorating another go because of your video. Still, I wonder why Bethesda couldn't just do it in the more simple and intuitive way like it was in Fallout 4, where decorating my settlements was a huge part of my enjoyment of the game. Even in much older Skyrim, placing books on a bookshelf was so much easier.

Have you been able to Stackup the Space Suit Cases ??
    I can't seem to do this .
Nor can I fill a Locker or a fridge up?

I will try out the scoped gun technique you share....thanks for that tip.

I’ve spent SO much time placing plushies and coffee cups and whatnot in my Mercury apartment and various outposts. Last night when I finally got the ding dang fishbowl to set down correctly on a counter I got a little too excited. I did not know about pressing the thumb stick to switch the axis of rotation, or the Build mode tricks, until I saw this tutorial. THANK YOU. That last faction quest will have to wait - I have decorating to do!

This has been very helpful. Been trying to find a video that explains some of this. Did not know about the shelf, that once you place items on it, you can move the shelf with the items. That will make it so much easier. And the books!!! Great tips on that. And picking up items that had been placed in build mode, but back in game mode, use a weapon with a scope. I really been trying to get into the decorations and outpost/homes with a character who is focusing on the Science Tree, to just play around with this aspect, trial and error, concepts and such. Been too busy on other characters focusing on either combat, physical or Tech, so the outpost were pretty much neglected.

Great video. A tip to get decorative junk quickly is to edit habs in the ship builder. The junk from a deleted hab goes in the cargo hold, even if the hold is full. Thanks for the great video, had an issue with sunken junk and will try the game save fix.

I appreciate the great tips and will help me fill in the rest to make it more reaslistic and not such a mansion look. Great video.

Game mode is just the regular mode you play the game in. If you click and release the "take" button/key, it'll go into your inventory, to pick up and move an item you have to click and hold the button/key till you see the item shifty a little.

Literally got to this point yesterday. So helpful! One trick I found to get a bunch of junk all at once, go into shipbuilder and modify your ship. Once you save and exit ship builder all the junk from your ship goes into the ship inventory for you to use. After some time, more junk will fill back into your ship automatically so you don’t have to worry about the ship looking vacant.

Nice work ! I've been experimenting with mods ..OMG do they open up so many options , it's a bit overwhelming but, also exciting 😉
They are working well with each other.. I have about 6 outpost decorating mods .. One that adds growing all "food" items lol I can't wait to make a little farm type outpost.. First thing I need to do is find a nice place.. Now, I just need to scratch my brain into building some catwalks over the ocean & adding little boxes & bags of produce, and, other created and, containers.. for my (will be built soon) mess Hall area ..I do have planned in my head, maybe I need to draw out some ideas on my tablet first lol With this one particular mod I'm using, it comes with pre-decorated furniture with misc items like tables & lockers /desks ...
We still can't use the dang bookcases though :( I feel like that's an unbelievable oversight, since Skyrim had slotable ones that mods allowed to put anything slotable into them .. & I saw recently FO had a magazine rack, I would really, like for SF 😂
Just make sure back up your saves if you decide to try them ..I would say use Mo2 & take your time with them if you install them.. If it crashes on first opening scanner then go to a new planet to start your modded outpost, existing have crashing issues because, the air locks & landing pads have been changed for the mods
lol 🤣 Do you know how to open the bookcase with the glass ? I'm pretty sure it's impossible ? I know how to decorate the wall cabinet with glass.. You need to hit it with a melee weapon ,I think fists work too.. How silly i know 😂

I've had a couple of items do weird things like that, had one that when placed just dropped through the shelves, floor, world, and vanished. The sink placement thing is killing me right now too, that and the toilet roll holder. I'm still trying to find a way to lower the sinks a bit further, the toilet roll holders too. I remember having a similar struggle with sinks in FO4, but even those were a bit more cooperative than the Starfield ones currently see to be
