- We lowered the front of a dodge truck without cutting springs. This was done by using the lower control arms of a van of the same year. Just went to the auto parts store, ordered brand new van lower control arms and the remainder of the front end replacement parts and it worked great.

Definitely a video I never thought I needed. I’m thinking about lowering my 81 D150 so now this gives me an idea

HMMM, just realized the part about spray painting the tires was edited out LOL you should have seen the look on the camera guys face!... priceless!!! "you're really going to spray paint my new tires"? YEP...
the spraypaint trick was "spot on" for the toe in adjustment BTW
You guys notice any bumpsteer from the new tirerod angle or vibes from the pinion angle change? The van steering arms load the tierod from the bottom which would correct the angle but the truck strut/radius rods get in the way (they fit behind the spindle on the van). A lot can be done fairly cheap in stages/episodes with 318 head work, 70s 360 4v intake with a used carter/edelbrock, jegs long tubes, and a near 268h spec cam. Probably want to upgrade to at least the 9-1/4 axle too with 3.55 or numerically higher ratio.
The truck has a great stance. What was the total drop in the rear from shackles and removing a leaf?
Did you have to drill out the lower control arm mount and change to a 1/2 bolt or did you use a sleeve in the control arm and stick with the truck's 3/8 bolt?
What did the overall drop turn out to be from stock?
Any modifications needed to use the van lower control arms ?
I'm doing a 78 d100 just curious what size wheels and tires you running, I'm thinking 295/50/15 on rear and 245/60/15 on front
What size wheel and tire are you running front and rear? Doing the same project with a 6.4 swap and that wheel / tire combo seems to fit well.

what drop shackles did you use for the rear?
So how exactly did you get the shackles off of the truck? The top bolts go in from the inside and no apparent way to get them out. Also mine seem to be frozen in the bushing sleeve.
you take of the bottom bolt and it will pop up allowing you to get to the top bolt
What size tires you running and how much did you lowered it?

Sure but we did not use drop spindles , just the lower control arms from the 1981 Dodge Van. Nothing else was changed from stock parts
I have a 1992 dodge d250, could I use the lower control arms from any van 72-93 or do they have to be from a 1992 van
also mine has 8 lugs instead of 5, will this method still work?

The shackles came with the truck when it was purchased

I read that your truck needed to be no older than 1984 D150 to use the van control arms? I have an 85. do you have the part numbers for the items you used?
The dodge van lower control arms are suppose to be 1973 to 1991 I just ordered the 1981 dodge van lower control arms for my 1981 dodge d150. worked great.
i'm not sure what the part#'s were he bought? i'll see if i can get him to chime in with that info....

What about balljoints ? Same or need to be for the D150 ..?
@@Isteveym the new van LCA came with new ball joints already installed in them, and we used the D150 upper ball joints new.
only minor mods we had to do were grind some of the edge off the frame end of the lower arms, when you remove one of your truck arms just compare it to the van arm and you'll see where it needs trimmed! and we had to drill the holes for the strut rod where it bolts to the van arm near the ball joint. easy couple of mods to do!!!
Year for the van front lower tab?
I used the same year as the truck. but my understanding is 1972 through 1993 would work
