  • Lowering a Dodge D-Series (D100, D150, D200, D250, D300, D350) is probably the easiest project that really changes the look and feel of these old Mopars! This video will show you how, and I have an idea to get my D100 shop truck project just a little lower...

    Nice work mate. Great videos.
    As an owner of a 77 1/2 ton stepside D100 in Australia videos like this are a great resource. There’s very little info over here for these let alone parts!
    Mine rides terribly due to a dodgy drop so will definitely be doing this although the aftermarket Rekudo arms are tempting as by the time I ship over the van arms it works out near the same.

      Thanks! This truck is why I started TH-cam...I was having problems finding info. Is there no way to find used van arms there in Australia? My first pair I bought new, but I see a good number of B-series vans in the salvage yards, and the same arms were used for a number of years, making them semi-easy to find, and WAY cheaper than buying new.

    I own a 1974 International D series pickup, 2wd. They made very few 2wd D series in 74/75 then IH went under. My brake rotors are obsolete! Horror! I find that knuckles from an 87 Dodge pickup fit my suspension,kinda. Tie rod mounting location is slightly different, but this issue is fixable. Anyhow.... So, I actually cut out the entire front frame section out of the 87 Dodge. I'm starting to think my best option is to mount the Dodge suspension onto my IH frame. To begin with, the two suspensions are very similar in design. At first glance you may think my IH was built with the Dodge D series 2wd suspension. When i pull my IH control arms, I'll find out if Dodge control arm bushings fit my IH control arms, upper and lower. If they fit, I'm going to stay with my IH control arms with Dodge knuckles. If not, I'll put the Dodge control arm mounts/suspension etc onto my IH frame. Parts will always be available! Plus, i can use the Dakota lowering spindles if i wish, or the van lowers....
    Any how... This video was a good watch. Thanks.

    I did a detailed write up and posted it on Moparts years ago. Photobucket screwed up all of the picture links. I didn't have to notch my lower control arms like you did. I did have to grind a little metal off of the lower control arms around the bushing because they were hitting the bracket on the truck frame. The bolts and holes wouldn't line up. I think I had under $100 in the whole drop including new ball joints, paint, and U-bolts for the rear axle flip.

    3 " Drop spindles from first gen. Dakota will also work on these trucks with a small amount of mods ! I have 2 sets but haven't got around ta doin it yet ! I knew about the lower control arm swap from several years ago !

    • @MoonBuiltGarage
      @MoonBuiltGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've seen some info about the drop spindles for Dakotas, but this seemed to be the easiest route, as well as the cheapest

    hey, diggin the video and info. so if I wanted to use the d150 control arm on my b250 to gain some height, id only need to reverse engineer what you had to do? thanks I appreciate it.

    Can you tell me more on the Lowe control arms and the measurement for the holes drilled so I can lower my 86

    • @MoonBuiltGarage
      @MoonBuiltGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      The lower arms are from a b-series van...up to the mid or late 90s. You can take the measurements for the holes from your original control arms and transfer that to the b-series control arms....I don't recall the exact measurements, but it's not difficult to figure out

  • @rickmarcum224
    @rickmarcum224 ปีที่แล้ว

    Shorter Dakota coils will also work I believe !

    • @MoonBuiltGarage
      @MoonBuiltGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem I could see with going to a shorter spring would be bottoming-out the suspension, but I can't say for sure since I haven't tried it

  • @christopherbishop4905
    @christopherbishop4905 ปีที่แล้ว

    Doing this same project, tried the d300 truck lower control arms which are deep but the balljoint hole and stud is huge compared to the d100 stuff

    • @MoonBuiltGarage
      @MoonBuiltGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't heard of anyone using the d300 stuff, but makes sense....maybe they are larger since the d300 is a one-ton...? Maybe...maybe I'm wrong.

    I installed van lowers on my d150 used new standard rate springs and I have only about an inch or so between tire and fender

    • @MoonBuiltGarage
      @MoonBuiltGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I used heavy duty springs on mine when I originally rebuilt the front, so mine sat a little higher with just the stock van lowers

    Could you apply the same work to a stock lower instead of buying a b series just put a 4 or 5 inch cup in?

    • @MoonBuiltGarage
      @MoonBuiltGarage  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Probably...I just didn't have my old stock lowers any more, and I didn't want to tear up my B-Series lowers just incase it didn't work

    I was just going to use pipe. Go to a fire protection company or supply like Ferguson. 2 one inch pieces shouldn't cost much.
