  • I'm building a gaming table! It will have fold down stations for each player, a TV in the top for displaying maps, cup holders, power outlets for each player, and more! This is a long term project that will take some months to complete. Here in part one I walk you through the design and then start cutting parts.
    Music: Celtic Warrior by Domiano Baldoni
    CNC Machine: Millright Carve King
    Software: Adobe Fusion 360, F-Engrave, Gimp
    Design files, G-Code, images, and 3D models are available here: redlightning.net/resources.html

    Thank you for making the plans available once done! This is the best model of a gaming table I have found looking through multiple DIY videos. It's super appreciated!

      Thanks! It was big enough we had to slightly disassemble my friend's house to get it into the basement.

    The grain should run the length of the triangular support. This will improve the glue strength and help avoid wood splitting due to stress when opening or closing the hinges.

      Yeah, it was a balance between hinge strength and joins strength. However, in the end it hasn't seemed to matter as the table has held up very well so far.

    Would you mind sharing the overall cost for all the materials?
    And do you plan on doing more woodworking project videos?

      Less the TV it ran roughly $850. If cost is a concern, skip the oak and use pine, as it is often 1/4 or less the cost. For example the 1x8x10 pieces running the length of the table are nearly $40 each in oak, but $6 for standard pine. Other notable parts were the glass, which was custom cut by a friend of mine's company, for $80, the USB outlets were $35 for all of them (standard outlets are like 75 cents each), the TV mounting plate was $16, the 270 degree hinges for the flaps were $35, etc. Most of the building supplies were from Menards/Ace/Home Depot, otherwise Amazon had a lot of parts and Applied Magnets had the magnets for keeping the latches out of the way.
      I do plan on doing some more woodworking videos! I have a pen turning one getting edited and then a few others in the pipeline (like a table with an iris opening in it and a viking longship inspired canoe) as soon as I am done finishing up the remodel of the kitchen and laundry room. :)

      @@TrustMeImAnIdiot Thanks for the fast reply!
      That is actually a lot more than I thought it would be. But given the "special parts" and the shear size of it, it makes a lot of sense.
      One other guy from a popular video said, that he wished he used oak for the top parts (he used pine) as it is a lot more scratch and dent resistant. I thought that was a really good point as he later showed his table top and it was already pretty beaten up, just a couple of months into using the table.
      I'm looking forward to your upcoming videos! As I already commented on part 3, I really enjoyed it :)
      Best regards from Germany

    What software did you use to model the table?

    • @TrustMeImAnIdiot
      @TrustMeImAnIdiot  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Autodesk Fusion 360. I use it for my 3D CNC projects, too. And best of all, it is free for hobbyists!

    Where is this sound bite in your intro from? I can’t quite place the voice. But I know it.

      It's Jayne from Serenity (the Firefly movie) during the opening credits sequence trying to convince Mal that he needs to bring grenades.

      All my players have 3 ring binders that have 9 card plastic baseball card sleeves in it for the spells and items and then I also pint out abilities on pieces of paper that fit into the sleeves as well so it is super organized and everything is in the binder

    I cant seem to open the files is there another way to get the blueprints for this

    • @TrustMeImAnIdiot
      @TrustMeImAnIdiot  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There may be! I think I found a way to export blueprint style drawings from the Fusion 360 design software. Give me a day or two to try it out and I'll post links to the image files if I am successful.
