- IMPORTANT: Do NOT use Pressure Treated wood for indoor builds. This type of wood contains chemicals that are toxic. Always check your materials to ensure they are safe, and only use untreated wood for your table.
This video show how to build a DIY TTRPG Gaming Table for less than $400 in materials. This was my first build, so I hope you can learn from my mistakes. Please let me know if you have any questions about your own build.

Rad table build! I built one almost identical to this last year, but I actually laminated the tabletop with EVA foam and green felt to simulate a neoprene playmat. I then built a second better table for the practice and was able to sell it locally for a good little chunk of change. New side hustle unlocked, lol.
That's so awesome! It never hurts to pick up new skills. 😂
Proof that even a crit fail can be a step on the road to a crit success.
You know what they say about a broken clock.
this is really awesome
Thank you! That's a huge compliment coming from you!
Nice build! I actually also just finished up building a D&D table with a TV in it, and also used deck posting for the legs. I've never seen any other table use deck posting for the legs, so it was neat to see that you had the same idea.
Thank you! How are you enjoying your table? Any favorite software for displaying maps?
Note Deck posts are Pressure treated to be outside and could be toxic if chewed on my Pets or Small children LoL other options are also Most wood stores sells Pre-Turned Table legs.
@@Jeffs40K I honestly don't remember if the 4x4x8s I got were pressure treated or not, but I will put a note in the video description because I feel like this is important information.
Nicely done!
Thank you so much!
I was looking for ideas for doing this for my 2nd edition group that I'm starting. Thanks for the ideas.
That's awesome! I know your project will turn out awesome once you embark!
Great job. You should be proud of it!
Thank you so much! That's so nice of you to say! It was a lot of fun to build and I learned a lot in the process.
Awesome video!!
Thanks! I'm happy you liked it!
great video man! I see you went to Menards so your in the area, I'm in Duluth, MN.
I'm a bit south of you in Missouri. I love our Menards.
That’s so cool
Thank you!
This is really great, did you use a program to plan it or did you wing it?
I pretty much started with the simple design I demonstrated in photoshop. I built a rough 3d model in Blender that my friend refined using a CAD program. (Sketchfab I think?) From there, we were off to the races!
Really cool build. I just finished repurposing an old table for a build like this. I have a video on my channel, if you are interested. Next I want to build one from scratch.
Awesome!! I'll check it out!
Heyyy I found myself watching this video and didn't even realize who it was! I saw your logo at the end and was like, "wait a minute...' 😂 Well done! One of my next few videos is going to be building another digital map display so I was perusing to see how others organized their videos. Sorry your first TV broke!
Fancy seeing you here! I'll keep an eye out for that video. It sounds really cool. Also, as for the TV... it happens! 😆
A note on your editing style. When you are explaining the location of things, don't have the entire model constantly spinning at the same time. It made me motion sick to try and follow. Otherwise, really cool build.
Thank you for the feedback! I'll definitely keep that in mind for the future.
Spinning is bad. Can't see the details without going cross-eyed.
Music is another thing. Unless it adds to the content. Save it for the intro/outro. In the middle, it just muddies up your dialog.
Cool build.
@@GeoFry3 Thank you! And I appreciate the feedback.
Great vid! Bookmarking until I can own my own property so i can do all of this 😭😭
Thank you so much! I can't wait for you to have the opportunity!
I sympathize. I picked up an inexpensive, used TV from kijiji for this very purpose. I went to meet the seller who plugged in the TV and showed it working properly. Then on the way home, it shifted, fell forward in my van and looked very much like yours did when I plugged it in at home. 😭
I'm sorry! 😭 Nice to know I'm not alone!
Awesome!! Might you have a link for the display plan here? Would love to attempt after your example
Thank you so much! Do you have Discord? If so, you can shoot me a DM at @DoubleCritFail
@@DoubleCritFail I do! sending a msg from @ktschy right now
The next time you make something with a large slab like a table top I would suggest you not glue and screw it down to its base. You are asking for issues down the road as both the frame and top expand and shrink. I would suggest looking into z clips or figure 8 fasteners.
Thank you!
Are you able to send a file for the table plans. I would really like to give this a shot following your video
Hey! If you have Discord, send me a DM at @doublecritfail and I can provide you with something that may work.
I sent a request from shaitan2239
I also sent you a discord request if you could send me some plans it would be greatly appreciated
@@RobertDavis-dnd Hello! I didn't seem to get your Discord request. What's your handle?

How many players sit around the table including the DM? I've been looking at making something like this but we have 8 total people that need to fit around it (one side is taken up by the DM).
This particular table holds only six. Two on each wide side, and one on each end. If you wanted to fit eight players, you could look at something like Critical Role's table for inspiration.
