About 2 Meter Sessions
====================
Based in the Netherlands, 2 Meter Sessions is an independent, ongoing (new) music platform with a great legacy. Monthly we film 3 to 4 sessions with promising and breakthrough acts from all over the world.
Many well-known acts have visited the show; from James Taylor, Elliott Smith and David Crosby to Damien Jurado, Ben Howard and Josh Ritter, via Radiohead, Nirvana, Coldplay and Foo Fighters. Archive footage can regularly be seen in (theatrical) documentary movies, like “Mystify: Michael Hutchence” (with footage of our session with INXS, filmed in 1997), “Heaven Adores You” (with footage of our session with Elliott Smith, filmed in 1998) and “All I Can Say” (with footage of our session with Blind Melon, filmed in 1993).
The show started back in 1987 by radio presenter Jan Douwe Kroeske. On his popular national radio show he persuaded New-Zeeland band Crowded House to play a couple of songs. The response of the public was so great, that 2 Meter Sessions quickly became a household name. In 1993, the show made a successful transition to national television. From there the show became a national phenomenon, for over 10 years, with filmed sessions of new talent, breakthrough acts and arrived career artists. Almost a million of 2 Meter Sessions cd’s were sold in the Netherlands.

My friend died ten years ago on 12/5. I’ll never forget right after he died, I was listening to Mazzy Star because we loved Mazzy Star/Hope Sandoval. I had a perfectly unscratched CD in my player and I’m driving along crying because my friend just passed away. The cd started skipping when Hope sang “and I’ve been taking it all for granted” a few times. I’m like what happened to my cd because it’s never skipped and I started it from the beginning and it played through. I know my dear friend was telling me that he took life for granted. He was 36 and passed away from colon cancer which is so unheard of. I’ll always love him for being a kind, gentle soul and I’ll always miss not being able to listen to music together anymore and all the great times we’ve had. My dad died 10 days after my friend so December always makes me feel the sadness of losing my loved ones but grateful for the memories I have of them.

So sorry to hear this tragedy -- June has always been a difficult month for me for a similar reason -- my childhood best friend died when we were teenagers during that month in 2001 and my dad passed away during that month in 2020.

I deeply miss the 90's, my town and my entire life when i was in high school listening this song.

I just discovered the band, the songs, and i'm here laying on the floor listening to each song of the band and not wanting anything from this cruel life but my mental stability and my youth back, I felt so lucky to find this.
I'm right there with you, although it's not my youth but those times that I want back. Those times before the world imploded. It wasn't perfect but there was still space for peace. In our heads and in the world.

We were on the edge of the technology we have now.
But it was before the instant everything. This song reminds me of a decade of face to face connections, live music venues without cell phones, I remember these concerts because you were in the moment. I miss those days of being awake. I know life progresses and I love alot of what we have now. But because I lived in the "before", I miss it. 🌃🎶

yes thought does always occur.. but there are gaps. thought has to originate from somewhere and that particular 'somewhere' is not thought. practitioners of meditation are capable of extending the gaps. quite often individuals that have mastered some form of creativity, art, music or even sport have sometimes intentionally but more often than not, unintentionally learned to reduce the thought process during performance and allow the subconscious to gain more freedom. quite often it can be described as being in the zone, which enhances and promotes a flow state. if you closely observe Hope Sandoval in the above clip - it's like she's almost forgotten herself. there's barely a moment of self-consciousness. if she was 'thinking' then there would be no room for freedom of expression and the purity of her creativity and performance would be diminished..
She was/is a really nervous performer prone to stage fright. She's just nervous as fuck and pensive.

I remember when I was little i had my harmonica and my mom taught me how to play Hope’s harmonica part on it. I still know it today. I’m almost 30 now. Pretty much her age in this video. I miss the 90’s and wish I could have been older back then.

I think Ms Sandoval might have some sort of clinical social anxiety. Mazzy Star shows would always be held in dark venues, and Ms Sandoval would look down while singing.

S Bishop I’ve seen her with her other band The Warm Inventions. It was an experience, if you get the chance please go. She sounds the same live. There was maybe 200 people at the show I went to, very intimate.

I was a child in the 90s and always assumed that Mazzy Star was her stage name. I didn't realize that the band was called "Mazzy star " and her name is Hope .lol. In fact even nowadays I've never heard anyone refer to her as Hope until I found this video. Mind blown. I thought she was a solo artist. Learn something new everyday! As a kid I liked a few of her songs but didn't think much of it. As an adult I realize just how beautiful and haunting her voice is. She was underrated in my opinion and since we had so many amazing female singers in the 90s I think she was a bit overlooked. She'd be huge if she came into the industry nowadays where raw talent is harder to find.

In this day and age, it's so refreshing to see someone be authentic, remain true to their values (in Hope's case, letting the music do the talking, despite being very, very beautiful) and be successful without courting attention and without revealing/selling their private life.
