Reduce Neck Pain for Seniors, 8 Gentle Neck Stretches

  • Tight neck and shoulder muscles are often a source of pain. Relieve neck pain with these gentle neck stretches that will loosen up your neck and shoulder muscles, combatting tension caused by sitting when you're hunched over when working at a desk, cooking, or knitting. It can be done seated or standing and requires no equipment.
    These gentle neck exercises can be done in any order and at any time of day. We recommend doing two rounds at least three times a week.
    1. Chest opener - 15 seconds
    2. Shoulder rolls - back & forward : 4 reps each
    3. Shoulder shrugs - 5 reps
    4. Head tilt - right & left: 15 seconds each
    5. Look up & down - 15 seconds each way
    6. Look right & left - 15 seconds each
    7. Bear hug - right & left: 15 seconds each
    8. Chin to armpit - right & left: 15 seconds each

    I’m a senior and because of the weather, I can’t go outside very often to walk or exercise. Since I found your exercises I am following you almost every day. I love watching you two, you are great together and I’m happy to say, the daily stretches are making me feel better and I don’t hurt so much anymore. Keep up the good work. ❤

    I’ve been having some pain in my right chest area, shoulder and arm… I believe it’s a nerve problem… I hadn’t worked out with you in a while because we’ve been very busy moving to a new place… Yesterday I did the warmup and then the arm toning video, and I felt much better… Today after the arm toning video, I felt impressed to look for a neck stretching video… Just completed all 3 workouts, and my pain level is 0!!! God is so good! He really does give us exactly what we need! Thank you April and Aiko for being the answer to my prayer ❤️

    Love this exercise. I had it done with my PT a few years ago when I had a neck injury which was job related. The neurosurgeon reviewed the result of my MRI and gave me a test and said I don’t need surgery coz it can do more harm than good. Advised me to go to a PT for set of exercises and I am still doing it right now. Thanks Aiko and April I found you in this video.. I am doing your other set of exercises with my husband too, More power and more movements for health! Cheers!

    I have arthritis in my cervical spine resulting in limited mobility, especially turning left and right. Before I began this routine, my trapezius was hurting. Your routine brought me relief--even more after doing a second round! My favorite moves were the hug and armpit gazing. Aah! Lovely exercise, lovely repartee between you and your Mama.       We understand how that happens! Mom agrees with you after a few hours of knitting her endless scarf! Good to stretch the neck muscles which are often overlooked. Keep moving and stretching with us!

    Thank you for these wonderful gentle neck stretches. I have scoliosis and these stretches really help prevent headaches!

    Nice break from my computer. M optometrist says get up from the computer every 15-20 mins so your eyes do not tire and to move your body in some way.
