My father is Native American and loved westerns. When I heard about this movie, I wanted to watch it with him, then he got his cancer diagnosis. I left for the military, and he passed while I was gone. I finally watched this film on the flight home for his funeral. I will never not cry over this movie or it’s soundtrack, and it will always be his to me.
Unfortunately it was a really good lineup with tough competition. Gary Oldman in Darkest Hour, Daniel Day-Lewis in Phantom Thread, Daniel Kaluuya in Get Out, Timothee Chalamet in Call Me By Your Name, and Denzel Washington in Roman J Israel Esq. Other actors not nominated were Hugh Jackman in Logan, Tom Hanks in The Post, Jake Gyllenhaal in Stronger, Robert Pattinson in Good Time, and James Franco in The Disaster Artist

I went to college for film and film study and I have been watching big blockbusters since I could remember, this movie hands down stays at the top of my list just because of everything you can pull from it. Emotional acting, not being able to know what's coming next in the plot, the CAST, the writing, the emotional pull, the score, the story itself. I watch thing probably once a month because it's one of if not the top movie that I can sit down and acting feel every emotion and at the end you feel a sense of warmness and satisfaction for how it ends,. Amazing movie
This film has such power over my emotions. The beauty in the story telling, the acting, the shots, overwhelms me so much I can't help but shed a few tears.
It’s nice to see so many people agree with how incredible this movie is. I still do not understand how this wasn’t nominated in SO many categories. In my opinion it is THE best western of this generation. It’s raw and real and hard to watch which makes it so good. When you feel so many different emotions just watching a movie. That’s when you know it’s good. This movie gives me all the feels each time I watch it.
For the first minute or so i was convicted Paul Giamatti was talking out of shot. Nope it was just Bale was a completely unrecognisable voice. What an actor!
A powerful moment where Thomas’ face is frozen in anguish in death with dried blood at 4:10 and Joe is just kneeling in front of him mentally in the same place only still alive.
I've studied Western history, particularly the "Indian" Wars, as they're called, for years. This movie is the truth. There were atrocities on *all* sides: whites on Natives, Natives on whites, tribe on tribe, whites on whites. It was a brutal and lawless time and place, and no one's hands are clean. Today, I see so many posts and comments honoring what they believe are the "spiritual," "harmonious with nature" and "mystical" side of the Natives; memes, T-shirts, etc. The different tribes had different beliefs. They all had a spiritual side, of course they did, but above all, they were people, subject to the same emotions and flaws as anyone else. Anyone who laments how they were treated in the past in this country (and it was terrible) really should concern themselves more with how they are treated *now.* The poverty of many reservations is unconscionable in such a rich country. They need and deserve more resources to improve conditions, but they sure as hell don't want *us* to tell them what they need and what they should do with any new resources. And if you're tempted to buy Native themed clothing, art, etc., look into the companies and make sure they are actually Native-owned, not just appropriating the motifs.
People have been praising Bale, and rightfully so. But we CAN NOT ignore the amazing performance brought to us by Rory Cochrane. I've never seen regret, anger, sadness, shown in such a way before. That man rocked this role.
This movie was so intense. I guess it hit too hard to many for it to be a hit. Obviously is a tale of redemption. It shows what years of death and killing can do to a person and the power of forgiveness. It will take a while for me to watch it again.
The thing is ... All this was normal. You can't be a warrior if you don't have someone to fight and all the tribes males were warriors. So - every now and then - the young men would form a War Party and go looking for trouble. They were opportunists. They'd come on a situation and make a judgment call - _"Can we take them?"_ If the answer was No - or - Yes - but we'll take Casualties - then they'd go somewhere else. If the Answer was Yes -they'd hit them. They'd steal the horses, kill the men, rape the women, and kidnap those women and children they wanted to keep - then kill the rest. They'd bring home the women they had captured - and put their wombs to work making babies for their tribe instead of their enemies. The children - they would raise as their own. The Children either adapted - or were killed. This is what these tribes had been doing to each other for hundreds of years. When the Whites showed up - they were not treated any differently. The Difference was - the Whites could call on the Army. At Little Big Horn - they had a major tribal gathering. They did this periodically to greet old friends and relatives - and so the young people could find romance. Villages were family units - so - no romance in the Village. The Brides would go with their Husbands village - so - these gatherings were a chance for them to see their families again. So - this was a big deal and the Indians did it every now and again. They were put on the Reservations - to try and cut down on the amount of butchery the young men were inflicting on the Whites - but - they'd leave to go to these gatherings. That is what was happening on the Little Big Horn - and that is why the Army was going there to chase them back onto the Reservations. At the Little Big Horn - there were about 6,000 Indians total - men, women and children. There were between 1,000 and 2,500 men of military age. Custer had a total of about 450 men - of whom about 210 died with him. To give some perspective on this fight - at Gettysburg - there were over 70,000 guys - *_ON EACH SIDE_* . So - this was a small engagement. After this fight the Army chased the Indians. An Indian village could move about as fast as the Army could - which made them difficult to catch - but - they couldn't forage. Eventually the Indians got hungry and went back to the Reservation - where they knew the Government would feed them - and it did. Mission Accomplished - the Army went back to their forts. These people - Indians and Whites alike - *_HATED_* each other. Everyone knew someone who had been a victim of one of the other groups. I believe it was Nelson Miles - an Army Commander - who had asked some of the Lakota Chiefs to come to his camp to negotiate. His Crow Scouts - saw these Lakota - and killed them all. You can imagine Miles's frustration. It's popular now - to ignore the Indians Butchery of each other and the Whites - while condemning the American's treatment of the Indians. This is all bull shit. Why do human beings kill each other? Because they can. If you look at the Ancient History of ALL these people - it's been butchery of one by the other since the dawn of time. This movie well reflects the emotions of the participants in all of this. They could be kind to each other - and they could butcher each other - all depending on the circumstances. .
Brilliantly written, directed and produced just so well, lighting, costumes, cinematography all done to perfection - and topped off with acting that renders a wonderful story superbly. Hostiles is a seriously good movie.
I am a huge fan of Westerns, and for some reason, I only came across this movie three days ago. I am unsure as to why this movie isn't as popular as it should be. It is one of the best films I have ever seen.

Masterpiece.
One of the best newer westerns. The characters were dynamic, neither hero nor villians, just humans dealing with the circumstances they've found themselves in. It is one of the best portrayals of these events. Such a shame that it's went under the radar.
People do this to each other in every country regardless of race. Always through greed corruption jealousy and mental illness. A lot of sad stories never get told
I'm white, native and a US vet. I think the perspective this film captures so well is the war within. I struggled watching this. It made me confront myself as if it was a mirror. We bottle up trauma. We pack and put away our scars like distant memories. I forgot when I stopped feeling. Even when I was stabbed I felt nothing. Surrounded by people but alone. Immersed in society but no one understands. Equal parts hatred and warrior. It's a nightmare that won't end, but you can't live or breathe without it. It's who you are. Like a disease of the blood with no cure, it flows through you. It coats you in iron, infects your soul. You don't want it but need it. I respect and curse the directors for making this; and for making me feel. Most people in the civilized world today are weak and have no idea how brutal reality is. I hate them for it. I hate that they are ignorant of the world's cruelty while they wear designer clothes, sip stupid drinks and fight about their woke values. They don't have the disease yet. But they will. We are entering the "weak men create bad times" stage. Everything from racial division to gender equality is hand selecting their perceived grievances and preparing. The earth cannot rotate without blood. It's why American society is crumbling. It's why protests are everywhere. It's why Russia invaded Ukraine, why China will invade Taiwan. It's why nuclear tests from various countries are increasing. It's why Israel and Palestinians fight. Nature is again calling us to war and everyone knows it. You can feel it in the air. Even though I am regretful that it must be so, I am excited for it. Only in peace do warriors suffer and only in war do they find peace.

Call them as You wish.
Christian Bale.
One of a KIND.
The man is a living legend.
Thank you Master Bale for your dedication.
I cannot understand how people haven't seen this when I rave about it being the best Western since The Unforgiven. Amazing film.
Non è uno splendido film, è un capolavoro. L'ho visto almeno una decina di volte.
When his best friend says “I don’t feel anything”, it breaks me every time.
This is some real raw acting and story. No Hollywood bs here. Just real Human emotion and regret love and sorrow that’s all.
Truly well said!
A masterpiece and the soundtrack my god …
Just finished watching it for the very 1st time... what a masterpiece 🤌🏾💯💕🥺
The movie is really damn amazing!
That's pretty much the whole movie in this clip. An amazing work of art with two foreign actors going deep into the American western tragedy and finding a sense of humanity in the end.
Been so long that a movie touched my heart Christian bale is one of the greats 🙌
Thank you 🙏
Stunning and powerful movie! Glad you enjoyed watching the film.
This movie and Hell Or High Water both caught me off guard, both criminally underrated.
I stumbled on the soundtrack and love it, having never saw this movie yet. This custom trailer sold me, looking forward to watching it and adding to library , looks AMAZING!!!!
I do hope you enjoy the movie, It's so good! and thank you for watching.
Having been in war , I now fully understand the saying, ‘War makes for strange bedfellows.’ It is something about violence that brings out the raw humanity that is kept deep down away from the light.
Best ive ever seen with these types of edits. You can really feel the emotion in the videos
I'm thankful!
the best film I've ever seen next to the LOTR....coming from me an autistic who doesn't like change or many movies and is the hardest person to impress, sure I've seen great films but films I regard at a level of pure perfection I honestly only ever thought LOTR would be in that bracket...until I saw this film..
Yes, this movie pulled me in big time! It was such an experience!
Stunning film. Visual, acting and that gorgeous music...
This film has such power over my emotions. The beauty in the story telling, the acting, the shots, overwhelms me so much I can't help but shed a few tears.
Great cut. Hostiles is one of my favorite movies! Glad to see it getting some love.
It's so good! and thank you!
Excellent movie. Rosamunde and Bale are a perfect duo. You can feel the pain.
I deeply enjoyed this edit. Thank you for creating it.
You're most welcome, and thank you for watching!
I think this edit convinced me Hostiles is Bales best performance. THis movie is so well done
Have you seen "The Machinist"? Also an excellent job.
The was a good movie in that it portrayed both sides as absolutely savage towards one another and neither side was shown to be innocent.
People have been praising Bale, and rightfully so. But we CAN NOT ignore the amazing performance brought to us by Rory Cochrane. I've never seen regret, anger, sadness, shown in such a way before. That man rocked this role.
Such an unbelievably amazing edit. You have insane talent my friend, thank you.
This movie was so intense. I guess it hit too hard to many for it to be a hit. Obviously is a tale of redemption. It shows what years of death and killing can do to a person and the power of forgiveness. It will take a while for me to watch it again.
"Ulzana's Raid" One of the best westerns I've seen.
Nicely done! One of my all-time favorite films.
The thing is ...
All this was normal.
You can't be a warrior if you don't have someone to fight and all the tribes males were warriors.
So - every now and then - the young men would form a War Party and go looking for trouble.
They were opportunists.
They'd come on a situation and make a judgment call - _"Can we take them?"_
If the answer was No - or - Yes - but we'll take Casualties - then they'd go somewhere else.
They could be kind to each other - and they could butcher each other - all depending on the circumstances.
.
Brilliantly made. Fantastic job.
Thank you so much!
Brilliantly written, directed and produced just so well, lighting, costumes, cinematography all done to perfection - and topped off with acting that renders a wonderful story superbly. Hostiles is a seriously good movie.
It seriously is!
I am a huge fan of Westerns, and for some reason, I only came across this movie three days ago. I am unsure as to why this movie isn't as popular as it should be. It is one of the best films I have ever seen.
Easily top ten best movies of all time. Absolutely love this! Everything about it is perfect
Very good movie - Christian Bale is awesome as always
the brilliance nearly escapes definition --- stellar performances & directing ... particularly impressed with the scenery & the ageless Indian vs White Man !!!
Masterpiece.
One of the best
..YET . Brilliant in Every way.
Very much so!
This was epic, nice work
Such a great land, such great raw nature. Fading away. Not just the US, but everywhere.
How beautiful are the sky and fields that have seen so much pain ,blood and suffering.
You compelled me to watch this movie and I'm thankful for that. Good god, what a ride.
This is a masterpiece of an edit man. The pace and the moments it cuts to the music is perfect. Shot selection is perfect. It's amazing.
Thank you very much! I remember being in doubt when I began editing, but I am glad I went through with it!
One of the best movies ever made.
One of the best newer westerns. The characters were dynamic, neither hero nor villians, just humans dealing with the circumstances they've found themselves in. It is one of the best portrayals of these events. Such a shame that it's went under the radar.
My God! This is just glimpses of the movie and I found myself glued to the monitor!
People do this to each other in every country regardless of race. Always through greed corruption jealousy and mental illness. A lot of sad stories never get told
This movie is highly underrated.
This was six-plus minutes of concentrated sorrow.
Yes it was .-.
A Heart wrenching stunning masterpiece. Everyone involved in its making should be so proud.
This edit is one of my favourite things on TH-cam. Brilliant work. For an astonishing movie. Well done.
What a powerful performance
This is possibly one of the best films created in the last 30 years in American cinema
A great film. Thanks
Memorized in the theater, not realizing until afterwards how thought provoking this film would be giving way to further contemplation and discussion.
Wow like all great films, the truly touching imprinting films I have ever watched, I landed on this movie just out of boredom looking for something to watch and I have never been more just taken. Brilliant all around, so much quality and pure talent put into this film, superb
The man with the beard at 4:00 in is saying nearly the same words as Will Munny from Unforgiven said before he shot Little Bill. Here's the quote from Unforgiven - "Bill Munny : I've killed women and children. I've killed everything that walks or crawls at one time or another. And I'm here to kill you, Little Bill, for what you done to Ned".
