Hostiles is a criminally... absolutely criminally underrated masterpiece of a film. Perhaps one of Christian Bales best performances. The ratings and reviews it got online is what turned me off from it for so long until I finally watched it and wow... all I can say is this film ranks at least a 92% imo.
I just finished this movie... Wow. Honestly one of the best movies i have ever seen. I honestly cannot find words for how raw and emotional this movie was. There wasn't a scene where something sight happen. And the score... Perfection. One of the very rare gems to come out of Hollywood in the last 10 years. This movie deserves a solid 10 stars on every review website
"I lost many friends and you have lost many as well. They are a great loss for us both.. ..but we know death comes to us all. Don't look back,my friend. Go in a good way. A part of me dies with you."
A man who has lost everything is willing to do anything. Anything to survive and desperately hold on to what’s left of his humanity. This movie was a perfect and beautiful gem. Unfortunately, the perfect gem is rarely seen. Let this movie get the recognition it truly inspires and deserves.
What an amazing film this was. The cinematography, acting, music, and story were so intensely beautiful yet agonizing at the same time. I hope this movie get the recognition it deserves.
Christian Bale deserved a nomination just for the part where he finds his friend under the tree, the outpouring of raw emotions while others on their horses looked on. Masterpiece of a scene.
As an old soldier, I have to say that this film perfectly captured the End of Tour....the sins, the victories, the sorrows, the horrors....we all walk with that and wish only for quiet and forgiveness.
As a soldier 9 years and counting I can say most of us do not even see combat. If we get deployed even rarer that we get into a live firefight. Are you talking lies mate? I'm tired of people lying about serving.
Brenton Goldfinch-Belbin I have not seen as much action as the guys that are in now....I’ve been retired for 18 years, but I did get to play in the various fun spots through the 80s and 90s.....most of my time was as a heavy weapons platoon sergeant with the 82nd Abn.....I think you’re British....so how about you.
Have seen this film 3 times now.. Each time you realize how incredible this film truly is.. and how immersed the actors are. Christian's best movie, hands down.
This movie was so impactful to the extent that I constantly feel the urge to cry. Although it was just a movie, I felt emotionally attached to each character. A modern art masterpiece of a movie. Criminally underrated.
This soundtrack came up in my feed. I had never heard of the movie. I watched the movie based on the recommendations in this comment section. Holy shit. What a movie, as everyone says, "very underrated". Violent, gripping and poetic. Brilliant. Thanks everyone that left feedback, otherwise I would have missed out.
Highly recommend The Grey, also criminally underrated. The trailer didn’t do the movie much justice but I promise you when you read the comments you won’t be disappointed hearing the feedback.
so legendary!!! This movie is one of the best western stories ever. And Mr Bale is so insane and awesome. The first time, I lost some tears about acting and sounding. thank You!!!!
I listened to this almost every day for years, then I forgot about it. Now, the algorithm was so kind to remind me that my depression still exists and it needs this. I will never forget about it now. I thank you so much for making this medley. I will never stop listening to it.
This is one of those movies that literally changes your life I remember staying up and nearly crying till like 3 Am after this film I remember the sadness in each moment and how.........human it was how raw and powerful and REAL it was I sat there and said “Omg I feel that....omg I cry at that just as him......I’m crying with him....” This entire film is to me one that needs to be seen and experienced by anyone going into the cinema business it’s a perfect representation of what films should be today.............
The events in the movie aren't far from the reality of those times. How do you reconcile such tragedies? I just can't imagine the emotional resilience people had back then. What a masterpiece of a movie.
This movie was great one of the best westerns I have seen in a long time that was great. The acting: story, the suffering, the action, emotions, the tension and realism were phenomenal. The score added an extra bonus to the film, Christian Bale and the rest of the cast really brought their characters to life. Truly an underrated Movie.
Jesse Sanders If you think that’s a shitty ending then you lack the brain capacity to fully understand his character arc. Him walking away from the train was symbolic in that he was essentially going to go back to his life of hardship loss and death. Instead he stops and looks back waiting only a moment before moving toward the train. Toward his salvation. Toward what could be a happy new life without hardship loss and death
@@ianchamberlin4601 I have seen more than 5000 movies in my life and hostile this in my top 10 is a work of art, regarding the end, I absolutely agree with you, I believe that it is the end that everyone who has suffered so much deserves.
To me, Hostiles is about madness, looking deep, deep, into the abyss, seeing it for what it is, being just about to be taken, and having the will to say no and walk away. To walk away from giving in. Hostiles got me to turn around and walk away from ending it all. You can spend your life wasting away within yourself, or you can take the risk, step aboard that train and possibly fail, but it was your choice to do so. This film is full of emotions, a scene where your throat tightens and your eyes fill with bitter tears. Dear God, how much injustice has been done. Forgive us.
A bit hilarious how we say forgive us God for the injustice that was commited when religion plays it's own role in the massacre of those who would not follow. Those atrocities were commited by men and men alone. If there's anyone to ask for forgiveness, it would be ourselves and as much as it's a bit late, at least that's a start.

After hearing that my grandfather had been diagnosed with cancer, this song - more specifically this medley even - started playing in my mind. It came as both refuge and companion during the following days, weeks... I couldn't help but listen to it, consistently, whether in my mind or during my trips to the hospital. It became a symbol of the importance of that man in my life, and of the tragedy that befell him in the end after a lifetime of achievements. I see Christian Bale in this thumbnail and easily put myself in his place, with that same stance, staring into the horizon, grateful for having had such a wonderful grandfather to show me the world, but sorrowful for having lost him in such a sudden manner. If you are reading this, and if your grandparents or parents - or someone else of significance for you - are still around, pause for a moment. Call them. Spend time with them. What I wouldn't give to embrace my grandfather once again, and thank him for saving my life so many a time.

That was a does he or does he not moment at the very end. I'm glad I saw the movie before your spoiler comment lol. But I have to agree I was fully immersed in that moment, and if a movie can do that to a person it has my full respect.
Seeing this as a child would be traumatic. I'm 39 and this movie moved me in profound, unspeakable ways concerning shame, regret and collective guilt. It showed children being shot to death, and a mother's wail with children buried. I saw Schindler's List in the theater but that doesn't even come close to what this movie die to me. Not to mention, as a veteran myself, the toil that service takes on soldiers.
This film resonated with my personal perspective, extremely. I know many indigenous individuals and friends who resent or despise the “Caucasian” population, presently. It conflicted my views in my younger years, but eventually, I realized that the present “Caucasian” population had nothing to do with the past. The past that forced our people into residential schools and into these ghetto-like reservations. Fortunately, I’m thankful for many of you recognizing us today. Today is what matters. ❤
I understand indigenous people’s anger toward whites as they caused intergenerqtional trauma that sadly still has an impact today. However, I am heartened by the greater amount of indigenous voices being heard and represented today (though countries with an indigenous population have an enormous way to go in terms of achieving equality and equity).
This movie is criminally underrated. It's cinematically beautiful, masterfully acted and directed, philosophically drenched of meaning and self reflection. This setting of the native Americans really carries weight... of all those who died because of who they were and where they were given the miracle and spontaneous deck of cards that life gave them at that time in existence. I'm blessed to be alive in this time we have now.
But today one can die ignored, without recognition, without a sense of duty and miserable, even though with more comfort than 2 centuries ago.Which is worse? To die in a modern age with comfort but feeling so alone or in a tile of turbulence but having at least had a sense of reward and of honour?
When Bale goes into the meadow by himself toward the beginning and releases the horrors he’s committed and seen throughout the war it’s nearly unbearable to watch..absolute sin he didn’t get nominated. Fuck the oscars.
THIS MOVIE IS SO DAMN UNDERRATED! I cannot believe this movie is not as recognized as it should be this is truly a masterpiece. Christian bale does an absolute fantastic job with this film…
I have recently moved out for college where I spend most of my time alone studying. This music and the picture of Capt. Blocker take me to a place where I can see the sad world we live in.
I can feel the story and the journey of the characters through this music, The Hostiles is one of the best movies I've ever seen, so much feelings, so much to learn, speechless.
Really loved this movie. There is a scene with a outdoor prayer after various tragedies and brutal violence happens - it really got to me. More than any book ive read, or any history, those few people battered by sorrow on an empty plain, and forcing themselves to bitterly THANK GOD for how little they've been able to endure. Really made me think about the mentality that these people would have been forced to have. Sure, they could have given into self pity, and died. Living required something else. Powerful stuff and great acting by Bale.
god. the pictures. the cast, the scenery, the score. everything was perfect and i knew it from the start its going to be a great cinematic piece of art. christian bale is one of the greatest actors.
Having looked at such a masterpiece, you understand that the Oscar is not the same as before and that everything was bought there! I think about this film they will still remember and understand that this is a true masterpiece of cinema motion pictures.
This film cuts to the bone, every soldier or those who ever served knows the pain he carries be it from doing the things that needed to be done or seen the friends and enemies fall all in most cases for a lost cause only to repeated again and again throughout history. Christian Bale, Rosamund and Wes Studi all did an amazing job. One of the best movies in decades. Best regards Si
I was on a packed Sitges train during rush hour in midtown de Barcelona when this song came through my earbuds on shuffle. The blank stares of the commuters turning to sorrow as the violins swooped and swayed around my heart. A train full of souls - not one speaking a single word to the other. I've never felt the weight of the human condition so much prior to that moment. So many yet so alone.
I m with you. Used to go to Sitges every Sunday just to be alone having a coffee and write. There is this energy on the way and in the small city, like the melody of this song...
Just watched this, spectacular scenery, movie cinematography was mind blowing and flawless acting. Music was mainly reserved for the last part and well worth it. I was left feeling emotional and mortal at the end.

Brilliant movie. Outstanding acting. Beautiful soundtrack. I feel like movies like this one have become very rare in recent years. Although it's not a western in the classic sense, I was still thrilled to see a return to that era on the big screen. This is the kind of movie I'll gladly spend money on at the cinema... more of this please
Soundtracks like this one.. wakes deep emotions! Things we forgot about... Moments we lived and we never wanna left.. So few know the brief history of our country. This film is a small window into what has happened in our past. This soundtrack is a masterpiece within itself, portraying the sorrow of the time yet expressing the true belief of the patriots that live among us.
When I am listening to this peaceful music the heart is crying in silent happiness. It is so beautiful as God is standing in front of me and I'm staring out of breath!
Two adverts in a ten minute relaxing music video. What a loads of balls. Fantastic, underrated movie though. My wife and I watched it enthralled throughout and she was in tears at the end. End of an emotional rollercoaster tears.

I am of English descent and I carry guilt in my heart for what my ancestors did to all indigenous peoples around the world 🌍, May God forgive us 😥😥😥🙏🏻
This movie is criminally underrated.
Well said :-)
But today one can die ignored, without recognition, without a sense of duty and miserable, even though with more comfort than 2 centuries ago.Which is worse? To die in a modern age with comfort but feeling so alone or in a tile of turbulence but having at least had a sense of reward and of honour?
I never even heard of this movie and when I watched it I was blown away. For sure top 3 favorite movies of all time.
This is the only film ive ever cried durring. This is scary how realistic it is. Absolutely terrifying
Such devastating sadness in this piece of art ...
Some people cannot bare it. While others are able to discern the beauty from the tragedy.
When Bale goes into the meadow by himself toward the beginning and releases the horrors he’s committed and seen throughout the war it’s nearly unbearable to watch..absolute sin he didn’t get nominated. Fuck the oscars.
Max Richter's works often have that devestating sadness
One of the BEST movies! Absolutely!!!
One of the best films to come out in a long long time. Great storyline, great acting and great soundtrack. Totally undreratted
The ending of this movie is just perfect
yes!...and I have a theory about one man seen in the station...just watch carefully
Imagino que el pensó, ya está quiero respirar.....
This movie made me cry, one of the most moving stories ever
Absolutely love the part from 5:46 to 8:41. Just beautiful!!!! Wasn't expecting it to be a great movie, but it definitely was.
The more i watch it the more I learn about myself.....Now THAT is a sign of a great movie!
Magnifique film et superbe musique.
Sublime.
THIS MOVIE IS SO DAMN UNDERRATED! I cannot believe this movie is not as recognized as it should be this is truly a masterpiece. Christian bale does an absolute fantastic job with this film…
❤👼❤️👼❤️👼✝️❤️👼❤️👼❤️
Never Goodbye is my favourite. And the acting in that final scene at the railway station was a choker. Brilliant stuff.
I have recently moved out for college where I spend most of my time alone studying. This music and the picture of Capt. Blocker take me to a place where I can see the sad world we live in.
dont be sad some men like war and hard ship i hope you fined it bad times make the man ex army and miner its wat makes you

“Sometimes I envy the finality of death. The certainty. And I have to drive those thoughts away when I'm weak.”
I can feel the story and the journey of the characters through this music, The Hostiles is one of the best movies I've ever seen, so much feelings, so much to learn, speechless.
Must watch this again - a brilliant film.
'Sometimes I envy the finality of death, the certainty. And I have to drive those thoughts away when I waken.' - Rosalie Quaid
A beautiful film, wonderful performances and photography, and a master music composition from Max Richter.
This film is massively underrated.
this film will definitely take an oscar someday! film underestimated!
which film?

god. the pictures. the cast, the scenery, the score. everything was perfect and i knew it from the start its going to be a great cinematic piece of art.
christian bale is one of the greatest actors.
How to say... Full of emotions. Splendid movie I just discovered 3 hours ago.... Bale is masterful.
Such an incredible story... The lessons learned is that there are more important thing in life then "self."
Manuel Barrio Speaking to another, without intent... this a good place to start. A lot of slaves, a lot of pain, a lot of potential
Yes I understand, here in Spain The Civil War with Franco Generals, Finally 1975. A lot of blood.
Yeah, it kind of rips out your soul and tears it apart.
I m with you. Used to go to Sitges every Sunday just to be alone having a coffee and write. There is this energy on the way and in the small city, like the melody of this song...
Blessings to you in the spirit of Christ brother!
Your a good man and you deserve to have a good life.
He knew he had to go with them im so glad he stepped on that train he finally let go
Just an unbelievably powerful soundtrack to go along with this movie that is simply a masterpiece.
I am obsessed with this movie. It is so perfect
Just watched this, spectacular scenery, movie cinematography was mind blowing and flawless acting. Music was mainly reserved for the last part and well worth it. I was left feeling emotional and mortal at the end.
I agree. Hostiles is one of the best movies in a very long time. I love Westerns anyway.
Omg the scenery, outstanding
One of the best westerns of all time (masterpiece)
Never Goodbye and this photograph taken by Joey L, feels so powerful and mesmerizing.
Thank you for combining this photo to the music.
Every time when i listen the Never Goodbye part,i came back to stare at my laptop,to watch the photograph and completely feel it without any thougths. In that moment the photograph feels ALIVE.
That final scene when Christian Bale boarded the train last second was so powerfully heartwarming.
Hollywood ending.
@@bobbydazzler8684 Yeah no shit, it's a movie lol.
@@LordVader1094 Thanks for that completely brain-dead comment. You even thought it was funny. Moron!
my soul left my body, my heart was at my throat beating out of my chest ... i cried my eyes out when he boarded that train . my wife was beside me tearing up as well ... something about that scene, the soundtrack... i just couldn't
@@dn-bayou Have you ever cried for the countless murdered indigenous Indians of the United States or is it only sentimental Hollywood endings that bring you to tears? Read Dee Brown's "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" and see if the genocide that made modern America moves you.
Love this movie , underrated for sure
Max Richter is a real genius. I first listened to this music, then watched the movie. Both the movie and its soundtrack are incredible!
Max Richter knocks it out of the park again. I will watch anything he does the OST for. Just elevates everything.
Finally saw this film after having this show up in my TH-cam suggestions, it's currently on Netflix UK. Amazing, and very underrated.
Soundtracks like this one.. wakes deep emotions! Things we forgot about... Moments we lived and we never wanna left.. Soundtracks like this one brings sadness to my eyes but I enjoy it I live with it because this is life.. you have good times... and bad times to remind you what truly good times means.. and then you missed them so much but sometimes sadness is so druggy that you can't let go.. but when you let... it's too late.. -Asto
So few know the brief history of our country. This film is a small window into what has happened in our past. This soundtrack is a masterpiece within itself, portraying the sorrow of the time yet expressing the true belief of the patriots that live among us.
The ending of the movie is just brilliant
When I am listening to this peaceful music the heart is crying in silent happiness. It is so beautiful as God is standing in front of me and I'm staring out of breath!
Two adverts in a ten minute relaxing music video. What a loads of balls.
Fantastic, underrated movie though. My wife and I watched it enthralled throughout and she was in tears at the end. End of an emotional rollercoaster tears.
Yeah I know. I understand that it is annoying, but the money goes to Max Richter, so...
one of my favourite western movies. Clearly underrated. CB & RP are outstanding here
This movie just blew me away! Visceral, beautifully shot and fine acting performances...What a movie!
Never heard of Max Richter before watching this movie but I''ll certainly be looking out for him now beautiful score to a wonderful film.
he did nature of daylight, check that out, in my opinion its sadder compared to this.
Taboo - a beautiful series ;)
Welcome to the club, u have a lot to discover
He's a very great composer but also underrated. So I suggest the following albums. Songs from before, infra, four seasons recomposed, and waltz with Bashir OST. My favorite peice from him even is autumn music 1 from the songs from before.
neither nature of daylight nor Arrival made me remember and feel the days when I wanted to blow my brains out but this film sure did. Guilt, shame, suicide, all captured like no other film or musician could.
The burial scene with Rosamund Pike is incredibly heart-wrenching. Great film.
I randomly came up to this film and was absolutly stunned.. this film didnt get the credits it really deserves
Loneliness is real guys, sending only positive vibes and love to whoever is feeling it, you know who you are. I cannot promise you it'll get better but I urge you to keep going as life has a lot to offer.
Well worded
The music touches you.. this film shows you what they all went through. Christian bale is unbelievable how he puts soul into this film. The scene where the solider makes peace with the native. How man has treated each other over the years. So sad.
Very great movie. A must watch. It extremely emotional, and damning at the same time, Very thought provoking. I cant believe this movie was not nominated for a best picture. Shame on you.
