For real though, this video should be titled “How to start a stump grinder”.

At least this guy runs the stump grinder right, not like that other video where the guy is janking it all around.

I would think that hearing and eye protection are imperative with this type of machine?

Probably not going to have hearing loss from one-off stuff like this but I would opt for it. Everybody makes their own choices and that's ok.

I though the same thing, I had to turn it way up to hear him talk, then the machine suddenly starts and holy crap the audio gets loud

I rented this grinder for $169 and it’s a pain in the ass to use for big stumps. It’s slow and inefficient and takes for ever. I should of just paid guy with a professional stump grinder $200. Lesson learned!!!!

Same here. God damn, 2+ hours for a single stump, one helluva workout. Don't rent anything under 20 horsepower!

@@wade727nelson Agree 100%. I'm exhausted and it did a shite job. Don't waste your time renting this P.O.S. Pay a guy with a commerical grade unit or dig around the stump and use your chainsaw to cut it into pieces. Even if you use 5-6 chains it is still faster and cheaper!

@@justintruedough4450 I've been a professional stump grinder for more than 10 years. I find that the biggest problem with rented units is that the teeth are dull which wastes a lot of time and effort. God bless.

what a bunch of freaking nerd hall monitors. this video is to show the grinder in action not to show how much gear should or shouldnt be worn. it will be used by adults. those adults get to decide if they want to wear safety gear. some of yall sound like youd be real fun at a party. it was a sunny day it appears....im surprised no one made sure the dude had sun block on too.

I've been a professional stump grinder for more than 10 years. I always wear eye (and ear) protection because I've been hit by flying debris more times than I can remember. A rock can shoot out from under that grinder like it was fired from a gun. I'm a member of 3 FaceBook stump grinding forums and anyone who did that would rightly be pilloried by our 20,000 members.
The real problem here is not that 1 guy played Russian Roulette with his eyesight, but that he will mislead 50,000 other people into thinking that they can play Russian Roulette with their eyesight too. Someone losing that bet is the real problem. A pair of safety goggles is a lot less expensive than eye surgery.
