    Thanks for the video. I just bought one yesterday from home Depot for $880 in great shape. The turning of the teeth is what I needed to know.

    Great tip on turning the blades if not cutting very well. I found out it cuts much better with a freshly turned set of teeth. Thanks!

      I searched on the homedepot app under rentals to find one for sale. Purchased for $750 and have $100 in new teeth and oil. Worth it to me. I like how close I can get to a fence.

    I need one too. I have so so many cottonwood suckers that pop up EVERY spring & grow tall in summer, if I don’t cut them down with my push lawnmower. Some huge suckers, my brother used the chainsaw and cut them back for me. Someone said I can used sterilizer & professional round up on the suckers and it should kill them. So I did, and will see if they grow again next spring. I hate cotton woods. Just like California’s hate Australian eucalyptus trees!

      I’ve had good success with drilling 1/2 to 3/4 inch holes in the stump and then pouring straight concentrate roundup in them. Not diluted with water. Hope this helps. If not maybe u could rent this machine from homedepot. Thanks for watching.

    Quick tip about stump grinders: you actually _can_ sharpen those blades once all edges are dull. They are carbide, so the only thing that will even scratch them is diamond, and while some are flat (so a good hone block will work), these appear to be concave. For that it is better to use a small grinder disk since it will re-form that shape for you.

      Thanks. I greatly appreciate the tips and advice. I will try to sharpen them. They are expensive. I’ve been using the stump grinder a lot.

      @@handylandlord Glad to help. Sounds like this machine turned out small, but capable.
      Just to clarify, to sharpen the blades, work on the 'face' of each blade instead of the side. That way you are not really reducing the diameter of them, just making them a tiny bit shorter.

    In your experience can you use this machine for bigger stump like 4ft wide or do we need a bigger grinder or can we use the small one work more into the stump as we go

    • @handylandlord
      @handylandlord  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It will be really slow. Probably recommend a bigger grinder. I've ground bigger stumps they had started to rot away so it was easy.

    I just had a 50 foot Maple tree removed and the stump ground. There are still some roots around the perimeter that I want to take out. Do you think this machine would grind them down?

    • @handylandlord
      @handylandlord  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it should do the job. I would try to remove soil and rocks around area before grinding. Overall, I am very impressed with the machine. Good luck on your project.

      It’s kinda hard to get a tree guy to come out for such a small job. This machine can be rented from homedepot. I know larger stumps will cost about $200 to $400.
