  • Today I rented a stump grinder to remove 2 large stumps in front of the farmhouse. I also removed 2 smaller stumps for my neighbor. This little unit worked pretty well but we could have used the larger one for sure. This was the toro 13HP model. They come in all brands.
STUPID hard work LOL. Hey, we saved a couple buckets so its worth it.. right?
Stay tuned as we transform the front of the house into our dream homestead.

I saw another video where the guy just digs down below ground level and chainsaws it, then cover it over, cuts any exposed roots with sawzall. I admire what you did.

Good job with that small stump grinder. Smaller machines can do it but the trade off is more time to get the job done. Still, you saved your self a lot of time from digging it out and money. Sharpness of the teeth make a big difference. Just did about 20 stumps at my place ranging from small to three foot. Put 10 hours on the rental, a Toro STX-26. Teeth were on the dull side but saved myself a couple of thousand off of what a pro would have cost me.

Thanks for sharing. I wanted to know if a small stump grinder could do a job like this and now I know.

yeah for sure. I WISH I had the press and grinder to properly sharpen the teeth. These are really weird teeth that sort of smash the wood lol. This was a rental so I didnt want to mess with it. For this type of job it did the trick for the price I paid... now if I paid more... I wouldnt have been so sore afterwards LOL. Cheers

Manufactures recommend you prep around the stump. As in, get a shovel dig it down a bit around the stump to clear dirt and rocks before you begin. No one has done this. Wonder how much they all dulling the teeth hitting the dirt all day

Hi that machine works great for its size. I'm starting a tree service in my area western Canada so been looking at compact stump gring this one is interesting.

Yeah not bad for smaller to medium sized trees. Plus if you keep up on sharpening it would work pretty good.

Compared to digging out all of those stumps, you probably saved yourself some time. I'm wanting to have a stump grinder of my own to run off a compact tractor PTO. Tim of "Tractor Time With Tim" is my influence.

Yes I'd love a pto grinder. Honestly if I had a sharper bit it would have made a big difference. The small pines only took about 15 minutes. And I did those after the two big stumps in this video. Cheers.

Honestly it took at least 2 hours. I shouldn't have dulled the blades out on the black walnut first. Damn good workout
