    One thing I learned when operating these things is always box the sucker in with plywood boards. Especially in residential areas where there’s windows and cars. We specifically have two 4’x 8’ boards that we prop up next to the stump to help mitigate the chips flying around. It’s better to play it safe over fixing a $600 window.

      Pretty sound advice!

    My apologies for being a backseat driver but perhaps I might make a few suggestions. It was not a bad 1st attempt, you did OK, and practice makes perfect,
    (1) at 2:01 the teeth shown do seem to be a bit worn (sharp teeth cut faster),
    (2) 2:39 for the 1st pass, I would suggest rolling the grinder back 6 to 8 inches and start with a much smaller bite.
    (3) The deeper you cut the longer the arch of the grinding wheel is in contact with the stump (creating more drag and bogging the machine down.
    I wish you well.

    Those stump grinders as absolutely beasts...when the teeth are fresh and sharp 😂. I had some fun running those a year ago

    I remember my first project using a stump grinder - it was my mother's backyard and she insisted on being involved, so you can imagine how that went.

    Those are the shape of the factory Vermeer teeth....each end is semi-round and they can be unbolted and flipped around 180 degrees.

    That’s a nice tracked grinder, do you still have the big green trailer? I don’t see it anymore.

    I've been hit in the cheek by gravel while using 1. Always random foreign objects around tree stumps.

    Those teeth aren’t naturally sharp. They are just big af. I don’t understand the people that think they know everything about this line of work.

    Your experience with this grinder would have been much better if the company you got it from actually knew how to care for these machines. Those teeth are unacceptably dull. When I rent a stump grinder I give them hell if those teeth are dull like that until they sharpen them, turn them or replace haha

  • @Scott924m

    Imagine a rental with dull teeth . it would have been a lot faster if it was a piece of equipment someone cared about . I wonder if it was sharper if it would have left such a mess

    Throwing some high-N fertilizer on those wood chips will help then decay more quickly.

    All you have to do is loosen the teeth and rotate them which gives you 3 sides, that’s the whole idea of the round teeth. From the close up shot at 2.02 minutes it looks like you still have one good side left.

    I did tree surgery for 16 years, stopped in 2019, a lot of my work was stump grinding, here in the UK, to work for a legitimate company, you need the proper training, i have NTPC unit 0020-54, all rental places near me, wont rent you the machines, unless you can show your NTPC card as proof that you have the appropriate tickets.

    So how long is that entire stump take? If it took over 4 hours you should have just hired someone because that machine is practically $350 for an entire day to rent it plus $1,000 deposit at the Home Depot that's near me

    Try and not take as big of a bite it will let you grind faster 1.5-2 inches at a time works well for the small grinders

    Is this machine cheaper than the ventrac stump grinder ??

    • @mrmullin7
      @mrmullin7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This machine was likely a rental, so definitely cheaper for infrequent use.

    • @CopperCreekCuts
      @CopperCreekCuts  ปีที่แล้ว

      Late to this comment, but yes, rental for a one time job is much cheaper than the Ventrac attachment as a purchase.

  • @SavannahDan

    You rented a dull stump grinder when you could have bought a very nice sharp stump grinder for your Ventrac!

    I would let the owner of that equipment rental place no other malfunctions in his equipment and then I would actually give them a bad review for renting it out like that

    • @kylegallardy1894
      @kylegallardy1894 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a light sensor on the controller, the way he was using it wasn't covering it up. Not the equipments fault. I'm sure he could have bought or reversed the teeth if he wanted.

  • @jamesmcrae5674
    @jamesmcrae5674 ปีที่แล้ว

    I dont care for that style because you cant see the wheel contact the stump.

  • @ovidiuciuparu6421

    2:04 you are actually very wrong! You are forgetting that you are cutting through soil.. rocks.. a lot if things. That edge is made to last… not to be sharp like you want!

    • @HARRYAZZHOLE
      @HARRYAZZHOLE ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm almost certain that front metal bar is meant to help reduce digging into the ground. I believe most people try to avoid grinding soil.

    If it werent for the fact that you wanted it to go immediatly, you could also have enocoulated it with any spores of edible fungus or fungi that feed on wood and have it decay faster and have tasty mushrooms. Shitake for example or lions mane or smth along those lines

    • @marvinkurzmanowski5645

    Shouldve just drilled out the center hole a tad bigger then drill in from the side about a 1" hole and burned it out.
