Sam lake has always been a hero of mine in the games industry. He makes love filled single player story driven AA games. A DYING breed. Sam must be protected. Buy his games people!!!
Max Payne had me marked in his time. The atmosphere of this game was incredible but alas, at that time my computer wasn't performing well and I never finished it. And then I discovered Alan Wake, a pearl in the universe of the game. And now I'm playing Control. Remedy's work is colossal. Each one of their games is a success, a perfection. Each of them exudes a unique atmosphere that explores the depths of our mind and its mysteries.
Remedy to me is one of the great developers in the last decade. Their games are so unique and really should be lauded more in the media and video game community

This was an awesome interview. Sam seems really passionate about writing and the results speak for themselves. Both Alan Wake and Control are phenomenal, and after playing AWE I couldn't be happier for the direction they are taking. Sam and Remedy in general really deserves more recognition for their amazing work.

I learned english from gamemags like egm and the edge. Also, i feel somehow connected to sam, he played ultima games, i learned alot from jrpg games from enix and squaresoft. With each step i started to apreciate the genre.
The past is a puzzle, like a broken mirror. As you piece it together, you cut yourself, your image keeps shifting. And you change with it. It could destroy you, drive you mad. It could set you free.

He is such a legend! How many game designers can say that they are the face of the superheroes that they have created? It must have been a bit trippy to talk to him and not hear the quotes from the first Max Payne game.
What an absolute legend of this industry. Max Payne, Alan Wake, and Quantum Break are some of the most important and impactful gaming experiences of my entire lifetime of playing games since the mid 1980s. I can’t wait to see what they do next with Control and beyond.

Carlos Santana same here. I played Max Payne 1 and 2 on PS2 and initially it didn’t bother me. Then I saw my boy playing MP2 on PC and Im like “🤭😮......ummmm why does this look like my game on steroids” lmao. Finally bought both on PC about 2 years later.
Control is in the same universe as all the others. A character speaks with hatch, but thinks his name is door. ( probably for copyright reasons) There are at least 3 characters and documents from Alan wake, and Someone mentions max.
First off, Remedy sold the rights to Rockstar long time ago, and second, the trilogy is already end now so I don't think there's any point in going back
I don't really see Payne as a trilogy considering the second game ended pretty definitively, only to retcon Max's newfound peace and contentment to bring him back. With that said, I would've loved to see what Remedy would have done with the third game.
He does not disappoint, a true Artist, quirks eccentricities and all. and of course Eu dressing style. Amies need to learn one or two things If you got talent and wear that 3 piece armour, you are basically unbeatable. Did not know he was Finnish but he is the best sort of Finnish. Great man.

Finished it like 12 times on 3 different platforms. Pc, xbox and ps2 Cant remember any game i finished more, maybe only game of the century ocarina of time is close, but still far.
Control was wild and seemed to be only a sign of things to come, so I can't wait to see what Remedy does from here on out. Sam Lake is a national treasure.
I read that they're adapting Alan wake into a tv show and its gonna use the concepts for alan wake 2 into the show and they're looking for networks to pick it up
I could sit and listen to Sam lake all day. He's such an interesting guy and has wonderful ideas. I am a remedy fan boy and can't wait for Control! I was excited hearing about Alan Wake 2. If ever a game needed a sequel it's that! The characters and plot is still today amazing. I'd even love a remaster on Xbox One with the NorthLight engine 😛

Rockstar has already done this with mobile versions of their gta games by outsourcing to Riot Games which have some upgraded features like slightly better graphics and checkpoints in missions. If they wanted to they could outsource to Remedy but I'm sure Remedy would be busy working on a different project but it's possible

The second game had a bigger budget, so they could afford actors for the story boards and the likeness of the characters. So they chose to change the original characters to look more like the "actors" they chose to use. As much as I like the look of the original Max Payne, I think he looks much better in the sequels..
The fact that Sam didn't want to portray Max. First game had small budget so the cast was made up of the game designers, their friends and family and just random people. After MP1's success they had The budget so he had the choice of not playing Max.

Yes, when they were making original MP, they had a very low budget so they used their own faces, their family member faces, their girlfriend, boyfriend faces xD but in Max Payne 2 they improved everything, from models to graphics. I say MP 2 was a solid sequel

Love this guy and studio since Max Payne. A rare studio that sticks to great story telling that surpass even the greatest movies!

When I was young, and I saw Max Payne for the first time, I thought it was some kind of Hollywood actor who had to play tough guys.
