    I agree with you 100%. Two reasons to go 38 is 1. A heavy rider. 2.Your a Beast rider on the mountain. As for me at 165#, am happy with 36 on RaceFace 30off-set Wheels.

    I'm 210-215 (depends on how many BBQs I've been to that week) and I rode a 32 until 2014, then a 34 until this year. I've lived in the Rockies, and North Vancouver in that time. I just got on a 36 (Capra Pro Race), and while I feel the difference, I haven't felt under forked since the 32, in the slightest. I'm not sure I'd switch to a 38... Feels too close to the 40 I run on the DH... but who knows, maybe some day. Great review.

    about to upgrade my 2015 trek slash 8 from a 2016 fox 36 factory to the new 38 factory. i went to a bike shop just to press on the fork a bit and the difference between my 2016 36 and the 38 is unreal. my current fork is awesome and has handled everything i throw at it, more or less, but on big jumps it feels like jumping into a pool of water. theres a ton of stiction at the very top of the stroke and then there's very little support throughout the rest of the stroke once you break thru that initial bite. the 38 had literally 0 stiction and i could compress it with one arm but it still felt like it had a ton of support

    I wanted this fork so badly at 6'8" 270lbs, but my fuel ex 8 came with 130mm and I thought the jump to a 150 air shaft would've been too much geo change. I went with a 140mm 36. When they make a 140 air shaft for that 38, I'll get one. Your video is awesome.

    I think even if a rider is less than 200lbs, the stiffness and low flex would be a big improvement over really technical terrain. This fork is so beefy, it's a game-changer for those really fast, technical trails where picking a line is more important than just horsing through chunder.

      Thanks bro! I appreciate that. I do have a video on my wheel set up and the reason why I run them, so consider checking that out.
      I run 29psi typically but if I have Cush core in, I can confidently run lower. Double down Maxxis casings front and rear.

I currently have a Fox 36 and Fox float DPS and I’m really happy with it. But I’m thinking the bigger the better? Fox float X or X2? 🤙

      Thanks dude! I can’t say anything against the Zebb sense I haven’t ridden it but I’m sure it’s also a great unit. I would imagine, the Fox is a bit more progressive if you really get down to the nitty gritty but that’s just my guess. Upgrading to the Grip2 damper alone is a huge upgrade. You couldn’t go wrong investing into a 38 or a Zebb.

    Great review bud! I have a 2019 Kona Process 153 CR/DL with the Lyrik fork 160mm travel and it does great for my weight at 260lbs. With that said I will make sure my next bike has these forks for sure unless something better and more beefy comes out and de throws this one! BE SAFE OUT THERE

  • @RyuMoto
    @RyuMoto 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thanks for your review! How does it feel off the top? Is it fairly plush in small but tooth shaking chunder? My trails have some consistent half foot to 2 foot hits but there's also a bunch of rock gardens you can just roll/plow thru. I guess very similar to the section you did on your local trail here!

    • @loamtroopers
      @loamtroopers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The top of the stoke has a ton of small bump compliance. I would say that’s is the softest part of the stroke. Then it has good ramp moving through the rest of the travel. Definitely the best I’ve ridden by far through the chunder and jank. Really grippy on the roots too. I hope that helps.

  • @JerryWanders

    Great video pal!! I have a yeti 2020 sb140 and wanted to do the 38 and I’m new to this but I’m confused with the height or leverage? Will it change my angle of the bike or angle ? I’ll be using the bike for all mountain and a few climbs and peddling 🤷‍♂️😫 I’m 190 pounds .

    • @loamtroopers
      @loamtroopers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you raise the travel in the front, it will cause the seat tube angle to be typically a degree slacker. Which will result is the seating position while pedaling to not be as optimal. But, in my opinion, the benefits from the bigger fork are worth the sacrifice! I hope that helps 🤙

    Super jealous you’re in Tahoe. I miss living
    there and having access to all the great trails. I’m debating between a slightly used 2021 Ibis Ripmo w/factory 36 vs a new one I have in order coming with factory 38. Not sure if I’m better off with the 36 vs 38 as I am 5’10” 185lbs and don’t ride as aggressive based on your ride in this video. My trails are similar to yours but with much more exposed tree roots and tree dense trails here in the Smokey mtns. My comfort level of drops is 4ft. and under. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • @angeloa6712
    @angeloa6712 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am 5’10 athletic 185lbs in my 40’s. Debating between a slightly used 2020 Ibis Ripmo w/Fox 36 or keeping my current order that comes w/Fox38. Going the used route will save me $1500. Not sure if I need the fox 38 for my style of riding, can you help? I can ride pretty much any bike park trail, just not ripping down them and catching big air like the more advanced riders or carving up turns(not yet). I prefer picking my lines but have fun hitting drops up to 4’ on occasion and really enjoy the longer 10+mi switchback trails in the smokies. As much as I try to pick my lines, I am generally crashing through endless rocks and roots.

    Great review of the 38! I'm considering an upgraded fork on my Bronson, leaning toward the 36 to gain responsiveness and enjoy a good weight savings over my stock Yari, but with the awesome things I'm hearing about the 38 that comes in at about the same weight I'm thinking it is a possibility. Just under 200lb rider with gear, occasional enduro race in the Tx hill country. Given your experience with the bronson what do you think?

    • @loamtroopers
      @loamtroopers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Brian! I appreciate that dude. I think you would definitely be stoked on the 36 coming from the yari. Obviously a whole lot more to offer. Now for the decision between the 36 and the 38, I haven’t thought about a 38 on a Bronson... but I like the idea! The 38 at 160 would be so much fun and a total weapon. Sense you’re already making the investment, I would probably go 38, but if you’re wanting to stay at 150 up front, then just go 36. Grip2 36 is going to be sick also. As for the weight difference, in my opinion you’re not going to notice that much. It’s 100% worth the strength. I hope that helps!
