    This was awesome Jared! So stoked you were able to get in touch with Jon, Devin and the whole crew over at Suntour. They are good people who support the sport and love watching people get out and ride. It was fun hearing your thoughts on it too, Its crazy to think that Suntour has won two Redbull Rampages with Kurt Sorge, The olympics with Tom Pidcock, World Cup Downhill Overall with Tracy Hannah, and yet it still hasn't really broken through that budget oriented perception. I honestly was so stoked to hear they set you up, i think having more people like yourself give it a shot will really make a big difference with perception. Great job on the video too!

    Suntour factory produces DVO's components and I figured they'd be sharing a bit of tech. That triair is a rebranded DVO topaz 3 with different colored anodizing on the knobs. Great shock!

    I've got an Auron 35 and a very unique shock (not the Tri Air) just waiting for a project. Very nice quality. Suntour is very underrated on the higher end. They're more common in Europe and Asia. Here in the States we're a little too snobby about our MTB. People would rather have a Judy than a Durolux. 😂

    I've been a grassroots ambassador for SR Suntour since 2020 and agree with everything you are saying! I've had the Auron, Durolux, Durolux EQ and Tri-Air and they all perform flawlessly! I recommend them to everyone looking for a great suspension setup! And the fact they are usually a better value than the big names makes it an even easier decision. Plus they are the easiest to maintain and work on in my opinion!

    I'm a heavy rider (127 kg / 279 lb with kit) and my Durolux 36 more than deals with my heft, even on harsh downhills and drops.
    Heavy riders know the feeling of blowing through travel, having high air spring pressures leading to high rebound damping settings, and the SR Suntour Durolux 36 resolved this issue for me.
    My fork is stiff and responsive under my weight, and running 2 of the 3 volume spacers makes it supple on top and supportive further through the travel.
    Importantly, I run the right pressure for the intended sag, meaning I don't need to use overkill rebound damping to counteract the air spring pressure as on some other forks. No overpressure worries here.
    The fork is surprisingly light (I was VERY surprised on how light the lowers alone are when I was changing travel spacers to 170 mm) and with all the adjustability it is very pedal-friendly for the travel. I'd run SR Suntour on any bike, just need to select the right model for the application.
    SR Suntour if course has budget forks too, but that simply means those are intended for lighter duty / non-competition applications, thus available at even lower price points while maintaining high build quality.
    Top tier product with a vast range for the right application.

    • @JaredRMorgan
      @JaredRMorgan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s an awesome testimonial. I know exactly what you mean, as I’m a bit heavier than average. At one point I was 220 on a bike with a RS Recon and I had to over-inflate the heck out of it to keep it from bottoming out constantly thus losing all the suppleness at the top. Great that the durolux was able to sort that problem out for you. If I could, I’d put Suntour on all my bikes. Maybe one day!

    I've two sets of their 36 Durolux RC2 forks and rate them. Note I've run and am running Lyriks and a set of Fox 38s too. The Suntour forks are great, and super easy to work on.
    Just note the A2C on the Durolux is about 10mm longer than other brands so it might limit the travel you can fit on your bike.
    The only issue is having to explain it to people who think Fox and Rockshox are the only players in town.

    SR Suntour is criminally underrated. They make good suspension products for a lower price conpared to the competition.
    I personally run an older generation durolux 36. With a bit of tweaking you can make suntour forks as sensitive to small bumps as the competition...

    • @JaredRMorgan
      @JaredRMorgan  ปีที่แล้ว

      @Cure Cycling they're a bit easier to service compared to other forks. But in my case, the parts are a bit harder to get since no one ia carrying them locally where I'm at.
      The thing i did to get my durolux feeling smooth is to put a bit of fork oil in the lowers. Just 5ml of the stuff in each leg. Adjust rebound, and compression as needed depending on the oil used...

    I would definitely like to try higher end SR Suntour suspension 👍my main concern with most suspension is performance degradation. I've noticed my Fox Float X2 degrades quickly. When they say "service every 50 hours" they really mean it. A fresh X2 feels incredible. A well used X2 feels dead and harsh. I've experienced the same feeling with Rockshox Forks... but they can go 6 months or so without feeling like they're loosing performance. I wonder how long SR Suntour can go without a service? I know... I should be servicing my suspension more often 😂

    • @JaredRMorgan
      @JaredRMorgan  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah the X2 is notorious for that. As far as SR Suntour and servicing, I picked both Kyle and Jon's brains very heavily on this topic. According to the guys, they don't EVER change the seals and wipers on the forks, but they do use the injection ports on the fork legs to push some fresh oil directly onto the foam wipers from time to time. Also an occasional drop of the legs to clean the foam wipers and load the rubber seals with slick honey would probably be advisable, but all in all the forks are virtually service free in comparison to competitors. The shock is similar, but dropping the air can and giving it a good slick honey treatment will help it stay moving smooth as well. I too was previously a Rockshox fan mainly, but their service intervals are the shortest...so that got annoying sometimes.

      I haven't opened my Durolux in like 2 years and it felt even better when I finally figured out how suspension setup works lol. Dropped the sag down to 30%, opened up the compression and slowed down the rebound. Voila, magic carpet unlocked.

    I've always been a fan of Suntour as how their products have such a good price to performance ratio. I came from an XCR Coil fork and upgraded to the Epixon Airfork and the difference is night and day. The thing about their cheap lineup (XCT, XCM, XCR) is that they use plastic bushings which tend to wear overtime which makes the performance not that consistent but you literally get what you pay for because once I upgraded to their better fork (Epixon), everything feels so much smoother and more stiff. Although they don't need bath oils, you could actually get away with 10cc of oil on the lowers, I do that as the prices of the "correct" grease here in the Philippines is just to much for me and I always have oils in stock from our car's oil change (5w30 synthetic oil btw lol).

    I have mixed feelings about them, I work as a bike mechanic for Merida and we put these higher end ones on our e-bikes. I don't know if it's the issue only with the ones going equipped on bikes, but they often come without any oil in the lower legs, causing the uppers to get destroyed in about 6 months and the fork performing poorly. Sometimes, they don't even have foam rings at the dust seals... We never had problems with the shocks, but the forks often times don't last and get warrantied. Also, conveniently for suntour, the warranty for the bushings and seals is only 6 months. meaning most of the warranties we try to claim get rejected.

    • @JaredRMorgan
      @JaredRMorgan  ปีที่แล้ว

      They don’t use bath oils in their lowers by design. They also use a black high density wiper rather than the normal squishy foam so it can look like there is no rings, but there are. With regular maintenance, which is quite minimal, my fork has had no issues. A lower service takes no time as it’s just a quick wipe down and then some grease.

    • @davidklepis7248
      @davidklepis7248 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe your fork works fine, you are person who thinkers with his bike a lot, you do the service yourself. But majority of the people will not, no matter how simple it is. I think, because they are not using oil for some reason, the grease just moves away from where it needs to be and without replying it often enough, your fork then runs dry and destroys the uppers. I believe that with following the service intervals they can work well, but majority of people get their bikes checked once before season and that's it. I have sample size of many things that go through our shop, and I can tell you that Suntour haves the most fatal failures. (not counting the super cheap stuff they make, that will be unfair)

They should do what Tektro did with TRP and brand their higher end stuff separately from their entry level components. Shimano has big enough market share to do whatever they heck they want. Suntour does not, and neither did Tektro - so they introduced TRP and most people consider that stuff high-end boutique stuff.

      I can definitely see where you're coming from with that. Tektro totally made a smart move with the TRP line.

    Part of the bias against them is due to rarely seeing any of their high end stuff specked on bikes. The only stuff most of the public is familiar with is the low end stuff, so people think the brand is “crap”

    • @JaredRMorgan
      @JaredRMorgan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I understand that. Fortunately as mentioned in the video, all of the new polygon E-bikes are going to be Suntour equipped so it’ll be a bigger topic of discussion soon. Slowly but surely, I think the perception can be molded into something more realistic.

      @Cure Cycling I have had the orignal fox DPS, an X2 and now the tri air on my Polygon N7, the tri air is the best. I love the ease of the climb switch. I ride 80% of the time in the middle firm position. Only full soft for decents, as I find it a bit sloppy for peddle performance on general trails.

    You are aware that a sag band is meant for measuring sag right? Set the suspension up before hitting the trails, then make adjustments depending on feel, not sag bands.
