    I'm impressed. It sounds like they did their homework. 11 Nm is a nice figure to appeal to as many drivers as possible. I expected them to aim at the entry level market with something in the 5-7 Nm range, but this is actually smarter, IMO. If they plan to expand the ecosystem with more rims and accessories, then at 11 Nm this may be the last wheelbase someone buys. It will be enough torque to boost subtle sensations while not clipping the top end when set up properly. And if you like it lighter, you are not getting so much extra headroom that it feels like a waste. I wouldn't give up my 20 Nm OSW SC1 for one of these, but I wish I had these options 5 years ago when I built my rig.

    • @JAKLAR79

    IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING COMPATIBILITY. Logitech has informed me what I said regarding cross-compatibility between wheels and bases was incorrect. We did specifically test this ourselves before filming to ensure accuracy, but apparently, what we experienced in our testing and what's meant to happen aren't the same thing.
    Anyway, as I said in the review, if you put a Playstation Compatible wheel on an Xbox base, it will only work on PC, BUT, if you use an Xbox wheel on a Playstation base, it gives you compatibility across PlayStation, Xbox and PC, exactly the same as is the case with the Fanatec ecosystem. This is because the PlayStation security chip resides in the base, whereas the Xbox security chip resides in the wheel.
    This of course isn't overly relevant right now, but will become relevant once other wheels are released, so I wanted to clarify this now.
    Apologies for any confusion caused! I will clarify this further in video form when we publish our console-specific testing videos ASAP.

    I bought the G Pro wheel and pedals set after watching Will's excellent review as well as reviews by other members of the community. For the first 4 weeks, it was a stellar piece of kit with F122 and ACC. However things began to go sideways in week 5 with FFB mysteriously falling off to zero on F122. I have exchanged countless emails with Logitech Support and it is clear Logitech doesn't have a handle on the G Hub software. Of course, returns aren't provided after 30 days so I will need to wait out Logitech's developers while they fix G Hub. It would be useful for Will and others to review products after the initial launch and as needed warn potential buyers that the products aren't quite as perfect in the field as they are in controlled reviews. Keep the great reviews coming.

      I disagree across the board. 1. They are only selling this direct on their site, cutting out resellers in effort to keep cost down (at launch). If you're not aware, resellers mark up the unit but act as channel sales for the manufacturer. Great to get volume out, but the price to the customer is higher. Almost certainly Logitec's plan is to sell direct at launch and as the cost to develop the wheels goes down they'll use resellers to expand volume. This is literally sales 101. 2. Every company has to make a profit or you don't get products.

All the settings are so easy to set to how you want them. Presets are very handy when changing from ACC to F1 2020. I have it desk mounted and it has never moved once. The shape of the wheel I find is perfect with a great feel too. I'd like to see if a Formula style wheel comes out later. The Direct Drive motor on this unit is surely mounted directly to the metal plate on the bottom, so the plastic would only be acting as a shell for the air to flow through past the heatsink and out past the fan. I've heard that units like Fanatec and Thrustmaster do get fairly warm after a while. So in my opinion I think the plastic is a good idea. But, I have to say this because I picked mine up today and can't wait to get it all set-up and running 😃👍🏻. What a great review. Thanks for so much useful info.

  • @firebolt5191
    @firebolt5191 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    I think it's nice that they did this but they have to do something about the price. Logitech has always had a soft spot in my heart and any shortcomings were easily excused by saying it's "entry level". I still have my g27 and loved the time I spent with it. (Running the vrs wheel now). That being said, at that price point, they are no longer an entry level option and are playing with the big dogs now. And for $1000 there are many better options out there that aren't giant and plastic looking. Again I think that it is a step in the right direction. But for that price I don't think that 11nm and having a rotation limit is worth it. (I know 1080 is plenty for racing, but when I play truck sim I love cranking mine up to 1800 for the extra realism) I think if they can get the price down to that of fanatec or even moza, they might have a real winner here. But at it's current price, there are too many options in that range that are superior and it seems like they might be pricing themselves out of the market they are targeting

      @samgendler ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Moza isn't console compatible is it? I'm new to sim racing (via being an F1 fan) and decided to get into it by getting a console. That left me buying fanatec to get direct drive, but the price point for 8nm CSL DD, especially if you want compatibility with both xbox and PS, is pretty steep. You need the playstation base and the xbox compatible wheel (or maybe it was the other way around, I can't remember), and they hit you with a $100 premium on the base. I didn't know which console I was going to settle on, so I wanted compatibility with both. The wheels are largely very expensive, and load cell pedals aren't exactly cheap, either. I mostly knew that if I went "entry level" I was surely going to end up upgrading down the road, but I really had no choice about what to get since there was only a single base that met my needs on the market and available (even fanatec's DD1, my only other choice, was backordered). With pedals, F1 2.5x wheel, and base, I was in for significantly more than I'd have spent on logitech (though the apparent quality of the fanatec gear seems much higher). Knowing I was buying something I was either going to sell because I didn't like sim racing enough, or upgrade because I did, I'd have rather bought a cheaper initial system and might easily have considered Logitech's offering (though probably not, just because of past experience with logitech). I can well imagine plenty of others might find themselves in a similar boat. Fanatec is $600 base, $400 wheel, $200-$600 pedals depending on which ones, and then there's extras like the upgraded paddles on the wheel, wheel mount, etc. Seems like Logitech are at least competitively priced.

    the reason of central clamp working great probably (aside from good engineering and calculations of mockups) is because you have those legs on the sides of wheel base. they looks like the tube frame of a car which hold twisting motion for the body - in the case of the wheel they hold rotational forces of motor and hands, so only central mounting is required. pretty cool

But the pricing is all but competitive compared to the likes of Fanatec and even Moza with a wide variety of wheel rims available and even add ons like a H pattern shifter. Great channel, I love people like you, with passion, who also share their knowledge in such a wonderful way. I'm just waiting for my first DD steering wheel, which is this Logitech and I'm starting my real adventure with simracing. See you at the tracks in a few months 🙃

      I get where you're coming from, but come on, there's only so much things you can pack in the wheel. Why not put the money you save on another smart idea, like a compact wireless base shaker clamped to your seat...etc
      IMHO there's a steroid care about wheel and pedals while other kinds of feedback is still in baby steps.
      Ideas like tention seatbelts or g-force seats or motion rigs are still far away from the normal consumer's dream.

    Not gonna this thing may be one fo the best feeling dd wheels it feels everything more then most. Its legit incredible what logitech did. There little one did it for the price then you have this and its just massive. We need more rims though! God lol
    Also ive always said smaller round wheels will always be able to feel more detail.
    The weight feel is amazing. Fanatec level maybe even more with a nm level its at.
    Someone tell me why logitech feels more controlled when racing compared to other wheels? Same happene with there old one when comparing at that level with the none DD wheelbase. This DD is on another level for sure.

    Dude, excellent review! I found it to be very informative in all the important areas. I am curious about one thing though, with the true force, do you get any kind of better tire scrub or front end feel especially in ACC? I've been using the TS-PC Racer for a few years and find that it's difficult to get that feeling.

    In the UK if you have a student discount you can get the entire setup (pedals + wheel) for £860 but I guarantee this will be discounted heavily for Christmas and maybe even at Black Friday. Ultimately they also don't care that much about Fanatec and and certainly not Moza, this will sell like crazy because the average person (i.e family buying for Christmas) or the average console gamer has no clue what those brands are and they aren't stocked in the usual retailers i.e Best Buys, Currys etc. Logitech can say what they want but by Christmas they will be at the usual brick and mortar retailers

    31:09 I do see a slight amount of play in the connection of the wheel base to the platform, which means the quick release really is doing it's job, but you are ever so slightly losing some connection using the clamp instead of bolts.

    Not making one base compatible with both consoles is a HUGE loss. Fanatec can do it, why can't Logitech?
    IIRC, Fanatec has Xbox compatibility from the wheel vs. PS in the wheel base, couldn't Logitech have done something similar?

    • @mfpresident8150
      @mfpresident8150 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is an extra $100 fee added to the overall cost to add support for Sony which would be a wast of money for people like me who don't use playstation. Hopefully they will release another version with PlayStation support but it will cost more.

    • @samgendler
      @samgendler ปีที่แล้ว

      I get the impression that one or both of the console manufacturers insist on products being exclusive to one console. That's why fanatec makes bases compatible with playstation and wheels that are compatible with xbox. I think they slipped through a loophole in their contracts which allow a wheel/base combo to be compatible with both. It's possible that newer licensing deals have closed that loophole so that logitech didn't have the option. Either that, or logitech just didn't want to deal with passing the xbox hardware signature through from the wheel because it would require a more sophisticated wheel/base interface somehow?

    • @zeendrom

    I think this looks incredible and I bet it drives great but just not aluminum profile friendly, no side mount, and quirky mounting arrangement when not using a table clamp. If not for those hiccups, I'd rock it.
