It is gorgeous! It definitely looks expensive but based on the specs, it’s a well crafted Bible. That is a Bible that is meant to be THE Bible for the reader, whether you’re a Pastor, Minister, etc. As far as it being an everyday reader’s Bible, between the price tag being heavy, as well as the size also being heavy, I don’t see it… unless it’s an expensive gift. All that aside… It’s gorgeous! I love the cross referencing and I like the verse by verse is really nice. I wish more books would have the red lettering, it’s more of a preference of mine. The illustrations are really nice. Thanks for showing us this piece of beautiful work. This video was a treat.

For 10 years I begged, social media stalked, and emailed Allan. I think I got my all time most desired Bible in the black silver line. My single wish is for a slightly thinner paper which I think they could have done fine with. This is a preaching Bible and needs some bit of portability mixed with readability. That said, I’m in no way disappointed to finally have THE ONE! I’ve had the chant 08 in brown as my main preacher for years and do love it, but this color way and better layout and line matching makes the new one better and worth the long wait !

I love single column bibles. I looked at one of these but decided to wait for the Schuyler ESV Stridon. I think it is just as well made and maybe even better as well as maybe $100 cheaper. Great review Tim.

For disclaimer: I am one of the crazy people that has been chasing this Bible and annoying Allan folks for years in pursuit of this Bible, and ordered it THE MOMENT I saw that they released it! Super excited for it to come in! BUT, I may be in the minority with this opinion, but I really wish there was the same font/typesetting as with the old version, but I understand that Crossway doesn't make that typesetting anymore. I miss the thinner lettering and smaller font.
Yeah I’ll buy a smaller edition of this printed by royal jongbloed. I have the older Allan version of this text (but paragraph), and the Chinese printed text is disappointing now after years of Schuyler bibles. A smaller single column paragraph format with references in the gutter, printed by RJ is the perfect in my mind. Just like PSQ is better than Quentel, so a personal sized of this in paragraph format!
I ordered the purple one and I love the individual verses instead of paragraphs. Just a personal preference. Thank you for the video. It hit my pocket look bad, but it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for.
Hey Tim, thanks for another awesome review! I’m one of those people who anticipated and bugged Allan about this Bible for years. Unfortunately when I saw how massive and heavy it turned out to be, I changed my mind about it. I need to be able to hold my Bible in one hand for extended periods and like it to be fairly portable. It is for these reasons I love the ESV personal size single column reference Bible. My version of that Bible from Allan is one of my favourites. Also, I agree with you about preference for paragraph layout as opposed to V by V. Thanks again for all you do!

I got the exact version in the mail yesterday! It's as close to a perfect layout for me as it gets. I agree with you about the cover - it is definitely softer than my Allan NASB Readers, which was a pleasant surprise. It's not a big deal, but I did notice what seems to be a small formatting error in Philippians. On page 1778, there is a footnote #6, even though the note appears on page 1779 (4:14). So I'd think that should actually be note 1 of page 1779. I don't have the original Crossway version to compare to, but it makes me think the Allan version has different pagination due to whatever changes they made for this edition.
Very awesome Bible! It would be super cool and helpful if they made a "handy size" of this exact Bible for more portability of it. I think that they would honestly sell as many or more of the smaller size version. Just my humble opinion. Like the legacy standard Bible has a smaller version too I believe. ESV study Bible has smaller version, etc. Schofield even made a kjv study Bible in mini version I had a long time ago too.
I have three Allan Bibles. They are all very nice. But their prices are getting ridiculous. Just received another Allan with the Meriva calfskin. Paid something like 255$. But the prices are becoming a money grab. Also purchased a Schuyler Credo KJV in Goatskin last week. It was 265 plus shipping. Prices are getting a little out of control in my humble opinion.
@@timwildsmith What to me is kinda sad. While these are considered deluxe Bibles. The Price really keeps many from enjoying these fine Bibles. I used to be in the world of Islam. You can get some really beautiful Qurans for a fraction of the price of these Bibles. That has always kinda bothered me.
I finally pulled mine out of the box for good. Kept pulling it out and debating due to the size. But I absolutely love it for the look and feel and readability of it. Plus I love the cross references and the introductions to each book. I do wish it was in a more compact version. But man oh man is it beautiful!!!

Thank you for this video, Tim. I saw the book listed at Bibles Direct and resisted the urge to purchase. It is expensive, yes. For me the book is a bit too big to carry around. It's the George Costanza of Bibles. A great desk book or maybe even pulpit. As to the price, most Allan bibles hold their value or even increase in value. Would not be surprised if folks clear $500+ on these once Allan sells out. Also, wouldn't be shocked if Allan got out of the evangelical translations down the line and either shut down or focused on KJV stuff. This would likely increase the value of these evangelical translation books. Get them while you still can. Enjoy them for a while. Get your money back when you're ready to sell. Can't say that about many things these days.
When is the electric blue one of these going to drop. I am holding out for that. Rather confused about the delay on that. Hopefully it might go up on their website this week…

It’s amazing. Not so long ago you had the Bible available at the local Christian bookshop and that was it. Normally you would have to make a lot of concessions and make do with was available. Nowadays I dare anyone in the English (Spanish speaking not so much) speaking world to tell me that they cannot find not a Bible, but a whole range of Bible to suit their preferences.

I have been trying to get an RSV Wide-Margin Bible for years. Do you think that you will be doing a review of this particular NRSVue text?
Beautiful but far too large for my preference for personal use and portability for church use. I could see this as a beautiful Pastor’s Bible to use for preaching out of - ease of readability on pulpit. The goatskin and art gilt is gorgeous without a doubt and love the thick pages! Tim, after watching many of your videos, I’m convinced I would like an SCR in paragraph form… Does this exist?! Preferably by Schuyler or Allan and NKJV or ESV.
Someone once said something to me that really stuck: if you’re going to spend over $200 on a bible, why not spend half that price on a bible that will still last you a long time and donate the other half to a missions fund that brings bibles around the world..
But the same thing could easily be said of virtually any purchase. Most people spend more than they "have to" on cell phones, laptops, cars, meals out, etc. You could easily buy a lower end product for all of these and donate the difference to charity. People are inevitably going to have different opinions about these matters and I can respect differences in conviction. But it confuses me when I see people who will happily pay $800 for a new iPhone looking down on people who spend $300 for a Bible. If the later really helps soneone study scripture and draw closer to God its a much better use of money. Of course I'm not suggesting you are doing anything like that, but I've encountered people like that before

Have watched this review now twice… Love the layout of this Bible. The layout is perfect. Don’t know what the school environment will be like, if there is table space this would be great just don’t want the ESV translation. Would still have this rebound in some super ninja, ninja, stuff… By Logo Rebinding or AE Rebinding.
Coming off the comment below. Not saying the ESV is a bad translation, it’s not. That said, this is the perfect get comfortable and alone with God at home Bible. IMO.
I know the esv is a new bible i like it i must say and this edition looks like a bible the preist would read from in church. Is the esv being used in many churches today and what kind of denominations are using it ? I live in uk but the esv looks to me to being very popular in America now id love to know where the esv is used because i love it . I have a 1930s king james bibles but i wouldn't buy a new njkv for my main reading bible because i have a esv in my collection now . For me it stands up to the nrsv and i like it more than the niv
Nice bible. I agree with you on the paragraph format as being a little more nice to look at and read. Nice paper. Like the Black with blue goatskin. I do not like how big it is. But that is overall really nice.
From the video it looks like the text is WAY too light. This is the main reason I despise Crossway bibles. The ESV font is not dark enough and has strokes that are too thin. R. Grant Jones has raised the same point, repeatedly.
Now it's time for you to visit a Bible printer company and make a video about how those beautiful Bibles you are reviewing are made. You can't just talk about the final product all the time. You also need to show the beginning of the whole process sometimes.
Very few are made completely in the US anymore. I'd have to travel to multiple countries (and continents!) to show the "whole process" of a premium Bible being made as you suggested.

This Bible in your hands right now is the prime example of what was mention about Allan stepping into 2023. When an over $200.00 Bible shows up at the door, should not be disappointed. Have you ever read the KJV translators preface to the reader? If not, please do so closely. You would clearly see that the KJV translators would never support the tenements of KJV only.

Jesus was not against rich people for being rich. Also, you do not have to be rich to purchase this Bible. There are millions of bibles out there, if you can’t afford one then buy what you can afford. But don’t criticize others for wanting something that is well crafted and high quality. The skilled craftsman who made these bibles deserve to be compensated for their hard work. They have families to feed you know.
Tim, I'm really sorry, but here, like the other US TH-cam Bible copies reviewers, it's becoming more and more of a questionable form of book cult as a lucrative business model with the fig leaf to help the financially well-off and status-conscious consumers to find for him or her the best edition of the Bible for supposedly religious edification. In the end, it's all about the passion for collecting, free expensive reviewer copies, the almost fetishistic joy in leather and binding and art gilt, i.e. the packaging and not the content, which doesn't care whether it's crocodile, goat or shark leather.
I disagree. My goal has always been to help people find a Bible that they will love and enjoy reading. I think that's a valuable service, especially when it's so hard these days to see Bibles in person before you buy them. People who stick around my channel for awhile (and know me personally) understand that the heart behind this ministry is a love for scripture and a desire to help other people love it more. For me, this is a fun way to build community and enjoy the Bible. Yes... some people collect, but that's none of my business. Also: I do get a lot of free reviews copies, but I paid full price for this Bible.

From what I've heard, it's not so much a money grab as it is a reflection of the increased costs of materials, production, licensing, shipping, etc.

I finally pulled mine out of the box for good. Kept pulling it out and debating due to the size. But I absolutely love it for the look and feel and readability of it. Plus I love the cross references and the introductions to each book. I do wish it was in a more compact version. But man oh man is it beautiful!!!

Thank you for this video, Tim. I saw the book listed at Bibles Direct and resisted the urge to purchase. It is expensive, yes. For me the book is a bit too big to carry around. It's the George Costanza of Bibles. A great desk book or maybe even pulpit. As to the price, most Allan bibles hold their value or even increase in value. Would not be surprised if folks clear $500+ on these once Allan sells out. Also, wouldn't be shocked if Allan got out of the evangelical translations down the line and either shut down or focused on KJV stuff. This would likely increase the value of these evangelical translation books. Get them while you still can. Enjoy them for a while. Get your money back when you're ready to sell. Can't say that about many things these days.

Not that the jongbloed goatskin is bad, just that the highland is so amazing. All things considered though, it's as close to perfect as it gets I think.

It’s amazing. Not so long ago you had the Bible available at the local Christian bookshop and that was it. Normally you would have to make a lot of concessions and make do with was available. Nowadays I dare anyone in the English (Spanish speaking not so much) speaking world to tell me that they cannot find not a Bible, but a whole range of Bible to suit their preferences.
We have so many options... it's wild.

I have been trying to get an RSV Wide-Margin Bible for years. Do you think that you will be doing a review of this particular NRSVue text?

Beautiful but far too large for my preference for personal use and portability for church use. I could see this as a beautiful Pastor’s Bible to use for preaching out of - ease of readability on pulpit. The goatskin and art gilt is gorgeous without a doubt and love the thick pages! Someone once said something to me that really stuck: if you’re going to spend over $200 on a bible, why not spend half that price on a bible that will still last you a long time and donate the other half to a missions fund that brings bibles around the world..
But the same thing could easily be said of virtually any purchase. Most people spend more than they "have to" on cell phones, laptops, cars, meals out, etc. You could easily buy a lower end product for all of these and donate the difference to charity. People are inevitably going to have different opinions about these matters and I can respect differences in conviction. But it confuses me when I see people who will happily pay $800 for a new iPhone looking down on people who spend $300 for a Bible. If the later really helps soneone study scripture and draw closer to God its a much better use of money. Of course I'm not suggesting you are doing anything like that, but I've encountered people like that before

Have watched this review now twice… Love the layout of this Bible. The layout is perfect. Don’t know what the school environment will be like, if there is table space this would be great just don’t want the ESV translation. Would still have this rebound in some super ninja, ninja, stuff… By Logo Rebinding or AE Rebinding.

Coming off the comment below. Not saying the ESV is a bad translation, it’s not. That said, this is the perfect get comfortable and alone with God at home Bible. IMO.
I know the esv is a new bible i like it i must say and this edition looks like a bible the preist would read from in church. Is the esv being used in many churches today and what kind of denominations are using it ? I live in uk but the esv looks to me to being very popular in America now id love to know where the esv is used because i love it . I have a 1930s king james bibles but i wouldn't buy a new njkv for my main reading bible because i have a esv in my collection now . For me it stands up to the nrsv and i like it more than the niv
The ESV is extremely popular here in the USA.
Mostly by Calvinist in the more reformed Baptist & Presbyterian churches.
I would make the typeface slightly smaller and enlargen the margins and less words per line. I feel like I get lost in wide single columns like this.
How do you think this Bible compares in size to the Schuyler wide margin?

Spine hubs don't make a huge difference in the price, and these tooled ribs are what Allan has always done.
Great Bible it’s just way to big. I like a verse by verse Bible for highlighting and note taking and this one has great margins.

From the video it looks like the text is WAY too light. This is the main reason I despise Crossway bibles. The ESV font is not dark enough and has strokes that are too thin. R. Grant Jones has raised the same point, repeatedly.

Now it's time for you to visit a Bible printer company and make a video about how those beautiful Bibles you are reviewing are made. You can't just talk about the final product all the time. You also need to show the beginning of the whole process sometimes.

Very few are made completely in the US anymore. I'd have to travel to multiple countries (and continents!) to show the "whole process" of a premium Bible being made as you suggested.

This Bible in your hands right now is the prime example of what was mention about Allan stepping into 2023. When an over $200.00 Bible shows up at the door, should not be disappointed. Jesus was not against rich people for being rich. Also, you do not have to be rich to purchase this Bible. There are millions of bibles out there, if you can’t afford one then buy what you can afford. But don’t criticize others for wanting something that is well crafted and high quality. The skilled craftsman who made these bibles deserve to be compensated for their hard work. They have families to feed you know.

Tim, I'm really sorry, but here, like the other US TH-cam Bible copies reviewers, it's becoming more and more of a questionable form of book cult as a lucrative business model with the fig leaf to help the financially well-off and status-conscious consumers to find for him or her the best edition of the Bible for supposedly religious edification. In the end, it's all about the passion for collecting, free expensive reviewer copies, the almost fetishistic joy in leather and binding and art gilt, i.e. the packaging and not the content, which doesn't care whether it's crocodile, goat or shark leather.
I disagree. My goal has always been to help people find a Bible that they will love and enjoy reading. I think that's a valuable service, especially when it's so hard these days to see Bibles in person before you buy them. People who stick around my channel for awhile (and know me personally) understand that the heart behind this ministry is a love for scripture and a desire to help other people love it more. For me, this is a fun way to build community and enjoy the Bible.
Yes... some people collect, but that's none of my business.
Also: I do get a lot of free reviews copies, but I paid full price for this Bible.
