My favorite is the CSB Study Bible (not the Everyday Study Bible.) I keep going back to that one. Cross references, commentaries, color pictures, archaeological finds, maps throughout the text, double column, red letter. Not a journaling Bible, but enough room to jot down notes. It’s big as a boat anchor, but I love it.

That CSB has really blown me away. I absolutely love mine. I wish it wasn’t printed in China, but their choice to go with 33 gsm paper makes the block beat any current model Schuyler for me. 32 gsm and up only for me from now on, I hate how hard it is to turn the page on 28gsm. The fact that it’s less than half the price of a schuyler is also amazing and so it’s also an incredible value.

My favorite Bible for about 5 years now has been my Schuyler Thinline Quentel in NAS95. I like how large the print is for how thin the Bible is. It is a perfect ratio for me. I don't know if I will ever switch to a different Bible as my "main" Bible.
My father recently died and I was given the opportunity to pick what I wanted from his belongings. I picked his KJV Bible that he read all through my childhood and I ALSO received my grandfather's KJV Bible that was in my father's possession. That blew me out of the water. I was so surprised by that! Those Bibles mean the world to me.

I don't have a top 5 list yet, but because of your channel my little pile of 6 cheaper bibles has turned into a bigger pile, 16, of multiple translations with my now preferred single column text block, still cheaper versions, but when i find my top five they will be off to the rebind shops. Tim, have you noticed quality issues with ribbons on Bibles coming from publishers? I’ve bought from Holman, Crossway, and Thomas Nelson in the last year - extremely disappointed in the quality of the ribbons and binding. Often the ribbons are glued in crooked or with an edge folded. I’ve had to return or exchange a handful of Bibles in the last year because the quality was poor out of the box.

Following Tim's recommendation, I purchased the Crossway ESV Bible (2024 #1 pick). I was curious and did a bit more research, reading excerpts and educating myself about Crossway's history. I am in full agreement with Tim's review, a lovely effort by Crossway. I am new to the single column format, it is a comfortable read (like a book). I have previously gone for the more expensive options (but no more than $150.00) as a lifetime investment. However, this version delivers and will be the one I carry with me each day in my work bag. The translation notes in the Preface really sold me, for the Translation Oversight Committee's honest and gracious intentions. Thank you Tim, for your always helpful advice.

I am saddened that you have decided to use an NIV to be your preaching bible at church... I am sure you have your reasons for liking the NIV... I often use one to compare verses with... but... what are you planning to do.. about the verses that are omitted from the NIV... such as Acts 8:37...and many others... just skip over them and Just Not discuss them or preach about their significance...?,,
or what about verses such as..
      Matthew 5:22
where the NIV...does Not include the words "without cause"..?
or even verses such as Ephesians 1:4-5 where the verse is divided up strangely...
4 For He chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love 5 He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will-
notice the words "In love"... seem to sit right outside of the verse 4 but come before verse 5...
are those words part of verse 4 or verse 5?..
should we understand this to mean...
are we blameless in His sight , in love?.. or
      In love, He predestined us....?

Right now my favorite is a Hosanna Revival large print CSB notetaking Bible . It’s been a great tool for recording my thoughts, as well as insights from the Spirit while I’m reading. I’d like to get one in a different translation for the next time I read through the Bible. Great list! And I entirely sympathize with your affection for the CSB. It's becoming my preferred translation for when I just want to read scripture with the NASB (both '95 and '20) being my translation for study.
With that in mind, my favorites right now:
    1. Allan R1 Reader '95 - Blown away at how nice it is. Truly stunning.
    2. NASB Stridon - My go to for both Church and personal reading
    3. CSB Personal Size in Saddle Brown - what I keep at work.
    4. Lockman Prime Reference - Honestly, the perfect-sized Bible to me. It's hard to find, and the CSB personal size is the only other one I have seen close to it. Lockman's fonts are the only thing holding me back from rating it higher
    5. CSB Handcrafted Single Column, wide margin - just an amazing Bible for desk reading in the morning/evening.
P.S. Congratulations for all the attention on the videos. Wish you the very best for your work and really hope that people appreciate the heart with which you are approaching this site, and not just the bibliophile aspects. (I love books - so I have to check myself sometimes to make sure my affection for books isn't getting in the way of my respect for scripture.)

Curious Tim.. you often mention Schuyler being the best of the best when it comes to premium Bibles... help me understand why the Allan Bibles are always well north of $100 more than the average Schuyler? Are they using more rare materials, or making them by hand or something I am missing? The Crossway versions also seem to be much pricier... same question with them. Another great video. Blessings

I'm not Tim, but I'd like to suggest checking out the St. Joseph Edition Bibles at Catholic Book Publishing Corp.'s website. It's their own New Catholic Bible translation, and they have lots and lots of options to pick from. The higher-end Bibles have all kinds of inserts, including family record sections. They do offer big, clunky Bibles, but also some decent-sized ones. Just poke around and you'll probably find something that fits what you're looking for.

A little over a year ago I bought an ESV legacy in (what is now somewhat uncommon) dark brown goatskin from the facebook groups. I wanted to see if the odd style was for me or not. After a year of use and notetaking in the wide margins I have grown to adore this copy of God's word. I have broke it in like a well-used baseball glove and it is so floppy and beautiful. It constantly draws me to spend time with the Lord in it! Just gotta change out those dinky crossway ribbons!

The ESV Heritage is my favorite this year! 😊 I love that it's single column since I prefer single column for reading (but I'm fine with double columns for studying). I love that its chapter and verse numbers aren't obtrusive so it can almost be a reader's version or at least a hybrid. I love the beautiful font type and size. I love that the words per line and the spaces between lines make the reading experience feel very comfortable and breathable, not dense and crowded. I love that the paper looks even more opaque than its premium cousin the Heirloom Heritage (I own the Prussian blue Heirloom Heritage). And I love that it's quite affordable relative to its good quality ($35 when I ordered it). It's a wonderful Bible.

If I had to whittle down my ever-growing stack of Bibles, the two I wouldn't want to give up are my 1966 Jerusalem Bible, limited edition with a white hard leather cover; and my Didache Bible (RSV2CE). I like both translations for different reasons. I currently own the Didache Bible in hardback, but one of these days I want to replace it with the leatherbound.

    1. ESV with Apocrypha from Anglican Liturgy Press. It’s affordable, it looks beautiful, and it includes the entire Apocrypha in a separate section. More for reading.
    2. CSB Ancient Faith Study Bible by Holman. It feels like I’m having conversations with some of the earliest Christian authors-it reinforces the connections and continuity of our faith.
    Just two.

The Logos Bible app. Does that count? I absolutely adore being able to make extensive notes and connect multiple scriptures together in these notes. That has revolutionized my Bible study like I could never have imagined. I didn't really need all that fancy commentary stuff, though I do use it on occasion. I do absolutely love seeing the original Greek and Hebrew definitions, too, but the simple notes feature is my favorite. And I'm very much a digital girl.
I hardly touch my physical Bibles, but of those, I would have to say the ESV Archeology Bible would be my fave. Lots of fantastic pictures that Logos cannot even begin to touch, and the archeology commentary is nice, too, when they aren't calling Israel by the name of God's enemy, that is.

My Subjective Top Five Favorite Bibles:
    5. NLT Notemaker's Bible (1996 NLT Text with wide margins and lines at the bottom)
    4. NASB MacArthur Study Bible (Second Edition)
    3. NET Bible (Full Notes Edition)
    2. The Reformation Study Bible ESV
    1. NASB Ryrie Study Bible (Blue Bonded Leather 1995 Edition)--not for the study notes, and not for the Dispensational perspective, but simply for the amazing outlines throughout the text. This is the best outlined Bible I have ever owned and it is my favorite. Moody updated the Bible and the text is smaller, the inline (gutter) margins not as wide, and the font has changed (and I don't like it). But the '95 Edition of Ryrie, with the '95 NASB, is my everyday and favorite Bible.

    Hmm, top 5...
#1 - Schuyler ESV Treveris I bought based on your review, I'm loving the single column format, it arrived at the beginning of this month and I've been challenging myself to read through it chronologically in less that 90 days right now, so far I'm on track.
#2 - Cambridge Diadem ESV with Apocrypha (also bought based on your review)
#3 - Crossway ESV study Bible in brown leather
#4 - Tyndale NLT study Bible 2020 text I think (NLT 1996 was gifted to me years ago and that was the first Bible I really got into, prefer the ESV now, but still like the NLT on occasion and the notes in the study version)
#5 - LSB single column, found this buried on a shelf at a Bible store, bought it on a whim, fell in love with single column uncluttered format because of it.
    Honorable mentions:
my thinline crossway ESV 2011 text, which was my first Bible that I've read fully through multiple times, due to your recent video discussing AA leather I've sent that one off for a rebind after years of use.
Also recently aquired a Holman CSB ancient faith study Bible, it has a bunch of commentary from early church leaders, it's my first copy of CSB in general and was most interested in it for the commentary, I've scanned through it and like it so far, but haven't read it enough to list in my top 5.
I ordered my wife a copy of the Schuyler Stridon ESV based on your review of it, was on pre-order and finally shipped yesterday, I will present it to her tomorrow and hope that it becomes her number 1, a spot currently held by her personal sized ESV study Bible I got for her last year and is the first Bible she has really got into and I think I may have created a monster 😂 and will be adding more to our growing collection...
Thank you so much for your videos! You have guided me well in my pursuit to find the right Bibles for us.

I definitely think the NET is useful, but one thing I do not like about it is the translators sound a little too scholarly at times. I've seen several notes that say something like, "The Hebrew does not make sense here, so we think it should be this similarly spelled word instead." Granted they usually justify it with an ancient translation or some other manuscript support, but the way they say "does not make sense" strikes me as a little disrespectful for a Christian textual critic. Textual criticism is needed because we have multiple manuscripts and we ultimately have to make choices between them, but we should be humble enough to consider that we might be making the wrong choice and not potentially say the Word of God does not make sense. We can miss HOW it makes sense. Just something I never hear people critique about the NET but is a glaring flaw to me.
