Tell me are you going to review on asus x16 flow we want details you have not done proper review for razor blade we want to see which laptop you are using
I was so on board with the idea until I got to the price point portion of the video. For that kind of money if you really want to be streaming you can fund an entire desktop streaming set up that rivals this kind of performance. I can’t think of the demo that would need the mobility freedom that a laptop offers, but I imagine most aspiring streamers would plan to stream from a single space. Great breakdown as always
I was thinking an HDMI in with a dongle that connects it with HDMI out by default Being able to capture as well as have low latency display would make it the best setup for console streaming
For that price it should have an HDMI capture card, top tier camera, and perhaps new portable key lights that can physically attach to the laptop at an optimal distance from the user.
Lol if this a streaming laptop why on earth is it AMD Advantage? Not to enrage all the AMD fans out there but let’s be real. If you want a laptop to stream you want Nvenc or at least Quick Sync…
This quality that Dave possesses is ynheard if in other youtubers…when youtubers generally sponsor they have somewhat of a soft opinion on the sponsors ..but Dave is so honest
Wait a second, didn't he say that the video is sponsored by OriginPC, not by Corsair? As far as I can tell the manufacturer/seller of this notebook is not sponsoring the video.
Not sure what impressed me more-the macro buttons controlling the exterior lighting, or the fact that I underestimated D2D’s set as only having run-of-the-mill lighting. That blew me away.
There's no way this laptop stays at that price for long, unless there're enough rich streamers who don't care much about price-value and'll pick the first expensive thing that comes across just because at that price it must be really good. Unlike the first offers of the likes of Sony, Razer and others there's nothing that captures my attention and makes me mark this equipement as fast, light, convenient, well-built or anything else I can think of, but who knows, Corsair has been in the industry and they either know their public or are planning on a price reduction so those hesitant at first will decide on this laptop when it becomes a bit more affordable.
For a lot of streamers & content creators - at least in the US - they can either mark those kind of purchases as a "business expense" and save a ton of money, or they're often sponsored and are given the hardware. Others would be professionals who really make use of the most performance that can be squeezed out of the form factor while also wanting to enjoy quality gaming.
Microsoft had laptops with wireless receiver's for xbox hardware, so did a razer blade pro I believe (old one). Been wanting companies to adopt this for a while now
Great first product I would say. But proper macro keys would have been better than touch buttons. Like, I find the dedicated volume and brightness keys very useful, and to be able to do it without looking is the most important thing. The 5 buttons on Asus Strix laptops that stay above the keyboard are near perfect, just wish it was more customizable. I am saying this because their current thing is already a worse version of touchbar Apple created and failed. And, I don't think they intend to sell enough number of units. Instead this price is for price-anchoring to let people know they are a premium brand so that in next few generations people associate their products with luxury price. It is the faster route to achieve reputation rather than slogging for years in lower tiers to earn it.
I think part of the reason they made the buttons touch is to still sell elgato products to those who don’t find it enough/don’t like the touch aspect. Like: “here you go, macro keys = streaming laptop!” “But they are pretty bad” “Well could we interest you in some Elgato? 😏”
Amen! I want this badly. I take my gaming laptop with me on my trips pretty often. This option would give me a reason to take my PS4 Slim with me as well and make things so much easier.
5:16, damn, you started explaining this, and I was so hyped, and then you said that it's just on the motherboard, for corsair stuff only. I was so hoping there was like a dedicated spot, like a deeper sunken in USB or maybe one hidden to the side of the keys that faces up or something? And it'd allow you to never have to take that receiver out, and it can just chill there "inboard" instead of "out board" for lack of a batter term, leaving room on the sides for other things to be plugged in. That would have been the better way to do this I think, like it's indeed cool that it's got a receiver in there, but damn, could've been something cool for everyone, not just people with corsair stuff.
I wonder why Razer never included their Hyperspeed wireless tech in their own laptops like Corsair did with this laptop. Easy way to get ppl to buy a Razer mouse to go with their laptop
I think the current problem is most 2.4ghz wireless devices had to switch into something like recovery mode just to re-pair with new dongle (like logitech) on the lower level. and then this corsair comes with has quick connect, slipstream feature. It's not that rocket science I think (since it operates on wifi 2.4ghz protocol), but it seems on lower level pairing, there must be some drawbacks all this time that makes everyone (including razer) didn't jump yet to such technology
Proprietary wireless is a terrible solution that usually causes lots of interference for proper Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz Wifi. Getting certified for those standards requires behaving well - not creating undo interference. The proprietary solutions don't have to get certified so they can, and usually do, behave really badly. The idea of having one proprietary solution built-in takes it to any even greater level of badness.
Razer really focuses on being as thin and light as possible for their Blade. Adding things inside was probably not on their to-do list, I'm guessing. And I think their Synapse software being semi-mandatory is enough to motivate some people to buy Razer peripherals too.
Touch Bar was bad because it was inferior to function keys, and the added functionality was very limited. A Touch Bar above the function keys would be excellent. Asus has this but more with certain laptops having a second screen in that region.
I caught myself clicking your video without reading the title or digesting what's on the thumbnail. Your videos are always an instant click! I watch your videos more because of you than the device we're reviewing :D
This seems like a cool product, but id say wait for a generation 2 where they fix all the little problems. It’s corsair’s first laptop, its expensive and for the price it really had to be perfect. Their first laptop was never going to be perfect. I also wish there as an nvidia option especially if its marketed for streaming. AMD offers great performance, but nvidia just is more efficient with their Nvenc encoder and things like nvidia broadcast. Needs more USB ports, an Ethernet jack, and an hdmi in so it can function as a capture device (or if you just want to use your laptop screen as a portable monitor even.) Really think they over priced this for the first generation, so like I said wait for next years model hopefully with the fixes and also next generation hardware.
Are we really not gonna talk about how cool and amazing the recording set looks like at 2:36, you can really tell how much dave has worked on the set itself to make it more efficiently work with his videos.
Cool - you mean I can buy one today and tap the S-Keys to Change the colors of your studio in the middle of your live video recording ! I am so getting one, Dave2d !
This seems like a laptop that's dedicated for setting up the stream rather than running the games. Could use it stream your desktop output, but you're probably better off buying better peripherals and using a cheaper gaming laptop. That's coming from a non-streamer perspective
I really appreciate reviewers who don't make their review spaces over the top, that way you're focused more on the product and not the distractions behind them.
They probably used the USB-A circuitry and rewired it to the Slipstream internal dongle, so the consumer lost out on more USB-A ports (Just a wild shot in the dark)
Something like that. I can't really figure out what Corsair gains by having only one USB-A port except a few dollars and the hopes people will buy Corsair slipstream accessories for this device.
That is a pretty unique laptop but when you said that price...I'm not sure if those gimmicks can justify that price hike. I immediately thought of the AMD advantage Asus laptop you showed. Even when it was newer and top of the top of the line product, it was priced at $16--1700 even when the shortage was at its worst. I'm not sure those unique features add up to an extra $1100. 🤔🤔
Feel like Corsair can enhance the macro bar in 2nd generation and make it a screen like Macbook's touch bar. Also add a feature to change icons and stuff.
they could've done it in the first one though i think that alone would've make the price justifiable but camera still sucks, and those s keys right now looked cheap
That integration with the Corsair mouse devices is GENIOUS, the lack of USB A's is really a deal breaker, but outside that it seems like a very good offering
They only put 1 usb A on there because they want you to buy a bunch of Corsair wireless products in tandem with this laptop Tryin too hard to be a dark color version of APPLE imo
I love how laptops nowadays mostly have a "privacy" feature for it's webcam. Its like the all the laptop manufacturers and software developers just gave up on trying to make the webcam safer or harder to be hacked. So instead they just took the easier option of just allowing the webcam to get hacked and just block the camera's view physically.
I thought to myself this laptop look alright and has some okay decent features that don't seem to much like a gimmick. Then I heard $2700 and my jaw hit the floor what the hell are they thinking even if it had a built in capture card for a DSLR/Mirrorless camera and the "stream deck" part of it had a screen and it had a god tier quality webcam that competed with the Insta360 Link $2700 is so steep lol.
I know you’ve said the hinge feels nice, but I don’t think I could ever spend this kind of money on a laptop with this hinge design. Time will tell if it’s good, but I’ve see so many of these hinges broken over the years.

In my years of experience anything Coursera is gonna carry a pretty hefty price. With Corsair you do get what you pay for so the high cost is worth the longevity and ruggedness of the product great review keep up the good work
Whoa! For that price I would expect it have every conceivable extra's you can think of included. 4K screen, all the ports you can think of, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD etc, etc. You name it, it should be in there and in an ultra-books form factor with battery life for days.
What I like about you Dave, above all others, is that the video titles rarely end with a question mark. One knows how you feel about the product from the title, so there's no guesswork; for those of us with little time, we can make time for your videos. Thanks for your opinions, they're much valued.
My 4 year old rig just called it quits this is out of my budget but the laptop market has definitely gotten a lot cooler … hopefully I can get a decent 3060 3070 replacement for 1k around Black Friday
I've been told the reason laptop webcams suck is because modern phone sensors are quite large, which fits in a camera bump on a phone but doesn't fit in a thin laptop lid. But if that's true I don't know why more laptops don't have a bit of a bump on the lid, I don't think that would bother most people.
This is on sale right now in Best Buy for $1400 and I’m thinking about getting it. Everything I hear is overall positive, the only negative everyone agrees on is battery life.
For anyone that isn't a streamer, you can get last year's (excellent) Asus Zephyrus G15 with a Ryzen 5900hs, RTX-3080, 40gb/RAM, and 2tbSSD for the same price. Dunno if the macro buttons are really worth the loss in performance there for most people.
I wish Corsair would follow a cohesive design language for all their products like Logitech G or Razer do. With them it's like the lottery, they might launch one stylish minimalist designed product and the next one is a fisher price looking thing like this.
The tech in this laptop is VERY cool. Built in macro touch controls, built in Corsair wireless receiver, high res display, mechanical keyboard. Perfect for someone who's serious about streaming and wants to use a laptop.... but who would that person actually be? $2700?? Anyone actually serious about streaming could buy a $1500-$2000 tower PC, a great monitor, a keyboard and an elgato control panel, and they'd have a better setup with even better performance, much larger display, no fan noise issues, and no USB limitations. If someone is so serious about streaming that they'd spend $2700+tax on a setup, I can't imagine why they'd want to go with this.
You know what could have been a great/unique take on the laptop from Corsair? If they took the server-grade-look and did direct-die liquid cooling, they have a LC branch, they could help in making a 17"+ DTR-like competitor to Alienware X17, MSI GT77/GE77 etc., by putting a slim/small radiator where GT77 has its metal rad/exhaust/leds so something akin to 30-40mm x 40-60mm x 320mm rad/rod right in the as... I meant in the back.. connected through all copper pipelage to direct die cool components, heck even M.2 could have been added to such an integrated loop... The machine filled with that amount of copper/metal would be heavy, but how much more over the regular metal rad, heatpipes or vapor chamber, it's hard to tell, but it would certainly be a poster-laptop of the company ;)
@@Peaches4Rent Perhaps, but catering to the gaming/workstation markets has been Corsair's theme for years now, they have the skills/branches to call for to get a monoblock with integrated pump plus copper pipingwith integrated fins for small radiating power and a unique radiator and blower fans solution, they could have developped something unique on the market - the only other commercially available LC laptop comes from Eluktornics (and the likes) and it requires external device to be tube-connected to the internal part of the loop in a 15-incher chassis, and the LC is not used for cooling directly, it's just a supporting solution for the regular heatpipes arrangement... Being unique with all things integrated/engineered within laptop chassis woud certainly warrant higher pricing and give a manufacturer bragging rights, something akin to their A100 line of fully built desktop products - small, LC for silence, heavily integrated/engineered solution. Instead what we're getting is more of an Elgato laptop ;) than Corsair one, as its core feature remains the inclusion of the special dock/panel...
That $700 zipper bag makes the laptop insanely priced lol! But as Dave says, the history of reputation matters if they go for this kind of pricing. For me, its a no-to-go laptop.
does this deserve to sit in the shelf with the big bois?
no

Yup you could get a Gaming PC and a Streaming PC for that kind of price
People who organize tournaments may be in the target demo for this (like FGC or smash) but it is a vanishingly small demographic, I agree
I would think even thunderbolt GPU's could rival this at that price point. Expect these to be on sale for Black Friday with huge price cuts.

Dave's Studio impressed me even more! Please do a studio tour! Would love to see your full studio and setup
WOW THE FU** that purple setup in your room is crazy good ! We'd like to see more reviews with this background
When he changed the room's lighting I was like "wooah".
My 4 year old rig just called it quits this is out of my budget but the laptop market has definitely gotten a lot cooler … hopefully I can get a decent 3060 3070 replacement for 1k around Black Friday
Dave: Today I woke up and decided to burn bridges
I really appreciate the honesty though, you're my favorite tech youtuber for that reason
Dave just wanted to show off the sick lighting in his room!!!
I think it’s a good first step for Corsair, the price point isn’t for me but I look forward to what they do in the future
The way that leaf spring switches work the tension in the spring prevents any extra noise from occurring after a press.
That mood lighting macro bar feature is the most impressive thing I'll never afford
From 110k subs to 3.58M wow I am not even looking for a laptop I just like the vids
That "dark mode" setting looks soo good u should do videos with that lighting from time to time
I've been told the reason laptop webcams suck is because modern phone sensors are quite large, which fits in a camera bump on a phone but doesn't fit in a thin laptop lid. But if that's true I don't know why more laptops don't have a bit of a bump on the lid, I don't think that would bother most people.
When he was changing the look of his room;
Me - *"Go teal!" "GO Teal!" "TEAL!"*
This is on sale right now in Best Buy for $1400 and I’m thinking about getting it. Everything I hear is overall positive, the only negative everyone agrees on is battery life.
Picked this one up on an early Black Friday sale! Can’t wait to get my hands on it!
goods?
For anyone that isn't a streamer, you can get last year's (excellent) Asus Zephyrus G15 with a Ryzen 5900hs, RTX-3080, 40gb/RAM, and 2tbSSD for the same price. Dunno if the macro buttons are really worth the loss in performance there for most people.
I gotta say, Corsair looks confident with this entry into the laptop market
I can't afford a single thing you review, but I love watching tech
Really appreciate how unbiased Dave is. Even when the video is sponsored by a subsidiary.
ji
That's really exciting for Corsair's take on laptops. But the webcam WTF
The ending is hilarious. The expression is priceless. 🤔😅😂🤣
Sounds amazing. But also niche
What I like about this laptop is that it has USB4, I can't wait for USB4 to arrive in laptops
Your studio with blue lights look super cool!!!
It’s nice that it’s sponsored but Dave is 100% honest
That $700 zipper bag makes the laptop insanely priced lol! But as Dave says, the history of reputation matters if they go for this kind of pricing. For me, its a no-to-go laptop.
Slipstream is actually a really cool idea and business wise really makes a case for buying into their ecosystem
Always just love to watch anything tech 😉
