got the m16 last year and the screen is worth every single penny!!! the performance is outstanding for architectural software. i could load 80 fully decked models in sketchup and not have a single lag!!
The 2022 M16 is my first ever gaming laptop and I got to say I love it. It’s fast and plays all games at max settings. For the fan noise just put on headphones and boom no noise but it might annoy people around you.
Thanks for the review. I am so excited to see all these new gen laptops that are really an upgrade. Just curious that ASUS didn't remove the bottom chin from the G15, as they did with the G14. Extra screen space is always good.
So, after watching several videos for a long time period, I can safely say that for university students who plan to game, we can just buy a 1500$ if there's the budget, and it can last for years. Fair reminder though that if you're studying, obviously gaming should be a secondary priority at best, but it's good to know you have something that can handle stuff thrown at it. For example, I know a guy that doesn't game, but has a powerful laptop. A week ago, he wanted to edit a video for a friend, so his laptop could handle it fairly enough.
I got my 2022 m16 a few days ago. My main usecase is music production. The laptop replaces a i7 9700f desktop, and I'm getting 30-40% more CPU performance in Ableton Live with the 12th gen i9. When running on integrated graphics (music production is not graphically demanding), the laptop stays pretty quiet and cool. No complaints. When gaming, it def gets hot and loud, but I use headphones and don't notice. It's an amazing laptop with a great screen and a solid keyboard. Def recommend!
I have been waiting on this video for weeks now. By far the best channel to get more info and valuable opinions. And somehow always ahead of the game, appreciate the hard work!
Imagine going back into 2017 and saying you could have the cpu power of a 18 core iMac Pro and the gpu power of a 1080 ti in a laptop that weights 4.5 lbs. you would be laughed off the stage lol.
I want to make a less than subtle compliment. You are my favourite tech reviewer, even though I am a Mac guy and never was a gamer. It’s educational and cool. Thank you. Your objectivity is awesome.
The M16 feels like a direct competitor to the Razer Blade 15/17 for creatives that are looking for the extra graphical performance in the thin & light laptop category. I think at the high end all models come with 3080ti with 16GB of vram and 32GB of ram. Of course the Blade 15 gets a lot less wattage compared to the M16 and Blade 17 so that's something to consider too on top of the price.
2021 G15 is absolutely a chef's kiss. I got one around this time last year (GA503Q) and it's been a real treat to use. It's astounding to see how much better this year's models are. I'm tempted to upgrade to the 2022 model, but I really can't justify it this year LOL. I did find that the best way to mitigate the higher temps is the use a podium pad or some other kind of laptop riser. I use one on my desk and it keeps CPU temps below 90C as opposed to about 94C flat on the desk. It also helps with ergonomics when using mouse+keyboard (at least for me).
I got the 2021 G15 too. I was worried this year's model would have 16:10 and much better performance, but really the performance gains are marginal. I'm happy with my purchase still. Would be a different story if I'd bought the M16 though lol.
Seriously love your reviews! But this one surprised me to be honest. I waited all last year to get an M16 with a decent GPU, but the 3070 version never came to the US. As soon as this 3070 Ti model was available I snatched it. Now I've been using the Razer 14 and I have loved it but I wanted that bigger screen for what I do. The screen on the M16 is incredible no doubt, but overall the fan noise is so bad I couldn't take it. I had to return it. Anything I did on it that needed the slightest performance boost required the fans to be cranked and they are horribly loud. Excellent screen, but build quality for the price left something to be desired, battery life is not great, and just too loud. So I was shocked you recommended it as I didn't feel the performance outweighed the fan noise.
According to what you are saying everything that require a boost will initiated the load fans. Did you try with the IGPU only mode enabled? I see other comments saying the IGPU makes a big difference on the fan noise subject. TY!
@@rambonusius I mean yeah if you’re running the gpu on at all times it’s gonna have the gpu fans running at all times, but if you’re using the Intel graphics chip the gpu fans are turned off completely
I really like the G15 for it's better price to performance and battery life. However, I LOVE the screen on the M16 and will pick it over the G15 every time until Asus updates the G15 to the same 16:10 display.
DUDE. Literally 2 hours ago, I was doing the exact same thing. I'm looking for a new laptop and since it's release I was fixated on the new G14, but then idk why but I wanted Nvdia so changed my mind again to the M16... I hope they lower the price on the M16 this year... Amazing timing on the video Dave!!!! I needed this!
The m16 last year only went on sale during Black Friday, Christmas, and New Years. So I think you’ll have to either get the 2021 version at a discounted price or wait a long time
The throttle issue happens time to time on my last year G15 too. Guess it's smth with the fans that isn't optimized as it should. But luckily it happens rarely and pretty quick, so it's just a slight annoyans when it happens at least.
Thanks for the great reviews! I've been really dependent on them while researching a new gaming laptop for school. The fan noise clips were also really helpful, its always something I'm worried about when considering laptops.
Honestly, I wish that the fans were easily removable on the G series. Although I haven’t watched the full video yet, it’s been like that on my 2020 G14 and it’s still here in 2022. You can’t always get what you want, but it’d be great if they could be removed without needing to remove the heatsink on the laptop to clean the fans.
Hi Dave, great review, thanks! You mentioned that if the goal is gaming exclusively, these machines are not the best value/price. May I ask what models you feel would be the best choice in 2022? I was set on the 2022 G14, then the 2022 M16. Now I just don’t know.
@@enkvadrat_ I actually don’t plan on taking this machine anywhere. I’ll keep it at home and usually use it plugged in at all times. This will be my first gaming laptop, again I was all set to go with the M16 until he pointed out how loud it gets. Maybe this is an, unknown to me, reality of gaming laptops. I don’t plan on using it for any CPU intensive work, but I wouldn’t mind it having at least above decent GPU performance. I’ve seen the benchmarks for the G14 and they look to me to be OK at best for a 2022 machine. Both machines hit all of my check boxes in most regards, high refresh rate screen, good brightness, and the aspect ratio is good for both as well. I really want to use whatever I get with my LG OLED TV so that I can play PC games on my 55 inch.
@@Ducott For high end gaming Nvidia is the way to go. If you won't use the laptop on the battery mode that often then you might as well go for the intel chip for that extra CPU juice and more FPS. 44db is actually quite good for a gaming laptop in balanced mode and is not that loud. If you really need a more quiet laptop then you could also go for Razer Blade. But it has worse performance due to lower tdp and is more expensive.
For me personally, the M16 screen aspect ratio is the thing. I really appreciate this extra height in my tasks, because almost any software and all websites just loooove to eat the vertical space on the screen with their toolbars, headers, tabs, buttons, menus and so on. And since I don't really like how windows taskbar feels on the left side of the screen, I'm really, like, paranoically aware of anything which require yet another strip of the screen vertical space. So, welcomed addition, the new (old) 16:10 aspect ratio in laptops!
I'm hoping I get my hands on the Duo 16 soon, because their online order process is a bit iffy (but my transaction went through and was later cancelled once it's at 'analyzing clearsale')
I have the 2021 G14 with the Ryzen 9 5900hs and the RTX 3060. This is my 6th gaming laptop and my 3rd Asus. It's definitely the best one yet and I've loved every second of owning it.
In all fairness the price also went up on both of them, but the M16 managed to go up in heat and fan noise too. It’s a great performer at home, but the G15 is the more ideal thin and light and it’s slightly cheaper when you compare both 3070ti models.
@@allenwalker9928 Much louder fans + bigger chassis. That's why it is "cooler". Else everything about 12th gen Intel processors screams inefficient and HOT
I don't know how people care about a few dB of fan noise. If yout gaming on a laptop with Max settings it's gonna be pretty loud on any laptop period. I'd rather have more power. I'm loving my 2022 M16. I returned my 2021 G16 for it.
I’ve been waiting for this video! I’m curious to see how the M16 compares to the 2021 MacBook Pro 16”. They are both a similar price, both 16”, and both designed for creative workflows. I would love an in-depth video on this topic!
For me, having the 2021 M16 for gaming and other workload as 3D Design and Video Editing is the best choice. Yes, the fans do cranck up pretty hard when you push the device to its max, but for the day to day use, ASUS ROG app has a "silent mode" that does wonders and delivers great perfomance and the laptop stays completely silent all the time. If you really need the performance boost that this year M16 has, go for it, but if you dont really care that much, definitely go for the 2021 model (I would assume that in the coming months, that model is gonna get a juicy discount, so be in the lookout for that).
Where I live the price and release date is already leaked. Release: Sometime in May Min. Price: 2450€ (=2677,18$) It may be different where you live though
It would be nice to know the weight and size of the power bricks. Even if they're thin and lights, you're still forced yo bring the charger wherever you go. Besides that, great vid as always!
Yeah I’ll take the lower fan noise and better battery life of the G15 (and no fingerprints). Also the iGPU performance on the G15 should be significantly better than that of the M16 this year
M16 is CRAZY good this year. Best thin and light I’ve seen so far this year

That full screen of the M16 is just awsomeee
I just got this laptop a week ago, after using it for everything from work to games, I just want people buying this for games to watch out for thermal throttling. After some software tweaks it is better now, but definitely know that its not just you.
got the m16 last year and the screen is worth every single penny!!! the performance is outstanding for architectural software. i could load 80 fully decked models in sketchup and not have a single lag!!
How is the reliability of the system in general? I've never had an asus laptopsoidk how they are in terms of that, but this M16 looks sweet
G15 and office work, nice power and excellent battery life, weight acceptable. Way to go ASUS
Bro the Zarya tracking is lit!
The 2022 M16 is my first ever gaming laptop and I got to say I love it. It’s fast and plays all games at max settings. For the fan noise just put on headphones and boom no noise but it might annoy people around you.
Did you get thr one from Best Buy? That's where I got mine.
@@ChiTownBossFJB yup got it from best buy
@@IvanH.CreativeProductions bestbuy too and good laptop
Which one did you get ? There’s a huge price dif between ones I see
Bought my M16 half a year ago, really happy with it! But damn, now I want the 2022 model after seeing that performance upgrade!!
Thanks for the review. I am so excited to see all these new gen laptops that are really an upgrade. Just curious that ASUS didn't remove the bottom chin from the G15, as they did with the G14. Extra screen space is always good.
Must be lucky to have different favourites laptop every year. Been rocking the same favourite laptop for the past 5 year.
Do you think the M16 is the best choice for university students?
Cheers senior'

Lol?
1:20 omg that "unfortunate" scribble on the G15 was fantastic, I would have leave it. so cuuuuute
Laptops getting so much better, excited for what they'll have when i refresh after 4 years lol.
Good honest comparison review. 👍
My guess is that fan noise bothers you a lot less when you don't have to live with it and reviewers don't have to live with the devices.
I think you are right
According to what you are saying everything that require a boost will initiated the load fans. Did you try with the IGPU only mode enabled? I see other comments saying the IGPU makes a big difference on the fan noise subject. TY!
@@mariozamora9684 that's probably true I flipped the mux switch so I was running dedicated only
@@rambonusius I mean yeah if you’re running the gpu on at all times it’s gonna have the gpu fans running at all times, but if you’re using the Intel graphics chip the gpu fans are turned off completely
got an m16 last year on christmas, super happy with it but it does definitely run loud on turbo mode but never gets that hot
I really like the G15 for it's better price to performance and battery life. However, I LOVE the screen on the M16 and will pick it over the G15 every time until Asus updates the G15 to the same 16:10 display.
YES the one I've been waiting for, the glorious M16
Asus just needs to include a full SD card slot and I'm sold
So I think you’ll have to either get the 2021 version at a discounted price or wait a long time
Great review as always! I'm actually surprised that the 3dB increase in noise is extremely noticeable in the comparison. I guess no M16 for me 🤷🏻♂️
Logarithmic, not linear increase
Keep in mind it’s only noticeable when gaming so if you have headphones on while gaming like any regular gamer you won’t hear the fans at all anyways
Absolute madman on that grav. Straight into the Diva. You're crazy
😳 So excited for this review! EDIT: Dave got me contemplating selling my 2021 G15 for the 2022 M16 😭
Do it 🚀
Wow ! Best quick review for M16 2022 & G15 2022 all around the world.
thanks Dave 👍❤️
Honestly, I wish that the fans were easily removable on the G series. Although I haven’t watched the full video yet, it’s been like that on my 2020 G14 and it’s still here in 2022. You can’t always get what you want, but it’d be great if they could be removed without needing to remove the heatsink on the laptop to clean the fans.
I ordered the M16 with the 3070ti, it'll be here in a couple days. It'll be the most powerful laptop by far at the local coffee shop.
2022 Alderlake edition?
Hi Dave, great review, thanks! You mentioned that if the goal is gaming exclusively, these machines are not the best value/price. May I ask what models you feel would be the best choice in 2022? I was set on the 2022 G14, then the 2022 M16. Now I just don’t know.
He mentioned that the G14 is better if you're just gaming. They have the same performance for gaming, but the G14 is cheaper.
Really? From what I have seen, the AMD Radeon graphics in the G14 is not even close to a 3070 TI.
@@Ducott Go for the m16 if you want a big screen, if you want to carry your laptop around go for the g14.
Hey dave god bless you

I'll still choose the 2022 G14 with the upgraded 1400p screen.
I have the 2021 G14 with the Ryzen 9 5900hs and the RTX 3060. This is my 6th gaming laptop and my 3rd Asus. It's definitely the best one yet and I've loved every second of owning it.

3:56 I watched that video on the other day lol. Love that channel
In all fairness the price also went up on both of them, but the M16 managed to go up in heat and fan noise too. It’s a great performer at home, but the G15 is the more ideal thin and light and it’s slightly cheaper when you compare both 3070ti models.
You didn't watch the full video did you? M16 was running cooler 5:53
@@allenwalker9928 It ran cooler because the fans were spinning quite a bit faster. 59 dB is very loud.
@@allenwalker9928 Much louder fans + bigger chassis. That's why it is "cooler".

I don't know how people care about a few dB of fan noise. If yout gaming on a laptop with Max settings it's gonna be pretty loud on any laptop period. I'd rather have more power. I'm loving my 2022 M16. I returned my 2021 G16 for it.
That part where you used the scribbles to show the durability was so wholesome, you have an adorable daughter! :)
I’ve been waiting for this video! I’m curious to see how the M16 compares to the 2021 MacBook Pro 16”. They are both a similar price, both 16”, and both designed for creative workflows. I would love an in-depth video on this topic!
0:04 you know what is great the aquarium behind you
For me, having the 2021 M16 for gaming and other workload as 3D Design and Video Editing is the best choice.
Just got one at about a 20-22% discount
3:40 sometimes windows defender plays with us, kicks in ever after being disabled.
It's a bummer that the G15 isn't instead the G16 and comes with a 16::10 display. That's a deal breaker for me.
