      Windows 11 also boosted the Windows laptop sales so Apple’s pricing is just wrong. They might regret it and make it cheaper on other stores like Amazon.

Better still, I got it on refurb and now no one in my country can get a refurb anymore till the trade-ins get refitted and cleaned, which could take months.

They won't be utilizing much space, let alone the ram. M2 is in a weird spot I agree, but would it not make sense to end up just getting the lowest spec machine the next year anyways and still expect it to perform well? I really don't understand Apple's pricing strategy. When the M1 first came out, the pricing was unreasonably reasonable. They all were priced to sell, especially the $700 Mac Mini and the Air. Now with the M2, the pricing is just reasonable. You do get a lot of screen, but little RAM and storage for the price.

    • @dalmeow
      @dalmeow 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@bobweiram6321 I think that might have to do with boosting adoption. If the Air hadn't come at the price it did back then, people wouldn't have adopted Arm based laptops with such open arms (pun intended). Now that people know it's good, it makes business sense for them to charge more?

    The fact that companies last year refused to have their laptops be compared to the M1 MacBook Air very much shows just how good the M1 Air was, and still is. It really shows that people who own the M1 Air should not have to worry about missing out on the latest and greatest

    • @caninac
      @caninac 2 ปีที่แล้ว +57

      Yes Apple has some amazing engineers, im not going to say otherwise. However, i think part of why the M1 was so receptive and amazing, was that TSMC's 5nm was pretty much just allocated a huge margin of its production to apple for its first 2-3 years.
      The latest offerings from AMD laptops, 6nm, are starting to get there, however the true test will be Zen4 vs M1 / M2. Same Node (5nm, and only to some extent each company will have their own internal secret sauce), same year release, different companies.
      If Apple moves to 3nm at TSMC and secures another huge exclusivity agreement, then that again will keep Apples lead. Regardless of how good the architecture actually is.

    • @savedfaves
      @savedfaves ปีที่แล้ว

      I tested the newer 13.6” MBA in a store and I 100% prefer the prior wedge shaped Air design (the 2015 MBA is even thinner at the front than the later wedge shape and yet still has more ports than any new MBA). It’s easier to pickup and carry and it’s MUCH nicer to use, thanks to the low approach angle for your wrists that makes the machine far more comfortable. It’s classic change for the sake of change. Unjustified change. The wedge shape feels more comfortable and looks more advanced. No doubt Apple will return to the wedge shape one day. I believe MBP should also be wedge shaped, albeit a thicker relative wedge. And MBA needs more ports, not more USB-4, but SD Card and HDMI. There are many out there who love thin and light be still require the convenience of not needing dongles without needing great power, giant SSD or large RAM or 120 Hz display. The old MBA (2015/2017) was the best machine out there at the time because it had both wedge thinness and port practicality and a great keyboard and a not too big trackpad (I think trackpads are too big now).

    Anything above 8 hours of battery life is already excellent. In the end it's still an ultrabook and the purpose of it to be portable yet long lasting is already a good regardless of the products you choose. Just that Apple finally managed to optimised the new M chips for many x86 platforms in Mac OS and we get all performance, power and portability in a small yet compact chasis. And Windows having better looking laptops while also being powerful, portable and competitive battery life is a huge plus. In the end, consumers win in choices and you get a better device no matter the product you buy.

      For me, the important thing is that in mixed use, Macs stay quiet, cool, and still have decent battery life. I tried G14 this year and they can be dang silent but they ramp up at the weirdest times. When they get going, they’re just as loud as Intel notebooks while not being quite as fast, and they burn through battery quick. Intels are just leaf blowers and have no usable silent mode, but they do give you excellent performance. For me, if you want the fastest, get Intel. If you want the best portable computer, get Apple. If you want a little bit of both, get AMD. Good choices all around.

      you have no fans in the mac, it doesn't just mean "better cuz no noise" it means you're losing a huge ton of performances due to overheating.
      with fans u can choose, u could just undervolt the machine and its all silent, but when you need fans you have them.

    • @mbvglider
      @mbvglider 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SToXC_. I was actually comparing to my MacBook Pro 14", which rarely gets loud, even during video/audio editing, and it has a fan. Even when the fan goes, it's not that loud. For me, the Ryzen was only quiet when doing nothing demanding; as soon as it did need to turn on, it felt no better than an Intel for me because it'd become a leaf blower and burn 10% battery in 15 minutes. Also, you act like "just undervolt the machine" as though it's a single setting, but that's really a matter of spending a lot of time with the computer and understanding exactly where you can do what and when and how. For instance, the G14 has a MUX switch but every time you use it, you have to restart the computer, which means that to go from a performance setup to a silent setup, you need to do a full restart. Meanwhile, my Alienware, the silent profile severely throttled my performance while the balanced profile got too loud way too quickly, so I had to experiment with a fan curve until I found something reasonable. With Windows machines, you're really at the mercy of your manufacturer and how much time you're willing to spend before you reach these reasonable points, whereas with Macs, they just have regular and low power, and regular is still quieter and more efficient than AMD/Intel at silent.

I've had to RMA like four out of the 15 that I've deployed at work. and I get constant complaints about the fan noise and how hot the chassis is. and they crash. The XPS along with the Microsoft surfaces that I have are like 25% of my tickets.

I've had Windows laptops before and they don't last long term past about 5 years even if taken care of very well. Not sure what it is maybe they use cheap parts or it's make of plastic. It would be interesting to see how older devices perform 5 years down the road. Long term performance is just as important to me and what I look at as far as how the history of laptop brands.

      $1930 is definitely overpriced for those features, lenovo yoga series has to be the most overrated of the 2 in 1's. The best lenovo yogas are the thinkpad variants or the lenovo yoga 2 pro and lenovo yoga 3 pro. Those ones actually competed HARD with the macbook air in its era because of its 3200 x 1800 display and having almost identical dimensions to the MBA. As well as processing power, etc for about the same price and having a touchscreen. Currently I would say Lenovo yoga 9i 14" would be overshadowed massively by the acer spin 5 SP514-51N that will give you a 2560 x 1600, I7 1260P, 16GB LPDDR5, 1TB SSD and included stylus pen that docks inside of the device.

    I’ve always wondered how an AMD chipset and GPU would perform in an XPS 13 or even better a XPS13+ Chassis, it’s too bad DELL has been keeping in lockstep with Intel on their XPS line, I think the efficiency and price point of AMD are worth exploring over Intel, especially in the “Ultrabook” arena. With that said the Zenbook does look promising at least until the newest 13” ROG Flow 2-in-1 laptops start coming out. IMHO the 2-in-1 form factor is one of the main differentiators vs MacBooks, especially since the M1 chips came out.

    benchmark comparisons is one thing, but the overall operating system is just running so well on the M chips, that windows laptops just seem sluggish by comparison. My pc is quite fast (desktop) but just searching for a program to launch, takes a few seconds, on a fast ssd. meanwhile, it's instantaneous on my MBA. Here in Europe you easily pay €1519 just for the base model with the 256gb ssd and 8gb of ram.
    But even the base model Air with the slower ssd is better then any similar priced windows laptop out there in terms of quality and overall performance for tasks such as photo-video editing. Workflows and so on. No intel chip can compete.

    The AMD Zenbook is impressive. CPU that trades blows, IGP that's M2 class, and the battery life sacrifice isn't even that much. Since Windows still has the native gaming advantage, pretty good pick for a thin and light that can still game on the side. Still wish Apple would just splash a bunch of cash out to bring native Metal 3 ports in.
