1988 Toyota 4x4 Van | Climate Control Spider update

  • In this episode, I'm working on my climate control spider assembly.
I've recently pulled the dash apart in My 1988 toyota 4x4 van to replace the Master and Clutch cylinder and as a side-point, I decided to repair and lubricate the cables in the climate control spider.
I'm still learning as I go and much thanks goes to the online support of Toyota Van lovers groups on Facebook and ToyotaVanTech.com for the insight into doing this maintenance and repair.
If you've got one of these mid 80's vans... maintain your spider!
If you don't you're going to break it eventually.... and they're very hard to find!

This is the only video on TH-cam that shows me what I need to see. Mine is a 97 T100 HVAC control, but still manual controls. At least now I have an idea of what I'm needing to do. Thanks for posting this!!

Excellent video. Surprised to see how fragile components they used. I'm opening up the front dash for my '94 Liteace to work on clutch and brake master cylinders. I will lubricate the climate control components.

You rock man! Easy to follow and comprehend.... Yes, definitely make more. I haven't taken anything of mine to a mechanic in decades, but I suck at teaching, you absolutely have a knack for it. :)

Wow! Thanks for the compliments.... I'm doing my best and learning as I go. I love the fact we can do so much of the work ourselves and really love these quirky little vans! Make sure to subscribe so you get notified when I upload more in the future.
      Keep on Vanning!!

This was extremely helpful. I Have an 85 and an 87 van and they both are sticking. Hell its the same on my 85 AE86. Looks like I’ve got a lot of projects on my hands !

Ah thanks. And yes, sounds like a punch list of stuff to refresh.
It never ends, does it? Lol- I guess that’s half the fun of owning these oldie goodies!

When I bought my 86 toyota van, sadly the spider ac system was already broken. Ive been trying to find one on the internet but havent had luck

Those spiders are definitely fragile after lots of years on the road.
Thankfully Chris is making them better than new.

Thanks for this excellent upload! Followed it and helped a bunch. One thing I'm noticing is my 'blue' cable is seized up pretty bad and won't move at all. Have driven some of that same cable lube you have but no luck. Do you know where the Blue cable leads to? I'm starting to think that the other end may have an issue. Thanks again!

      Antonio Belmontes.
Thanks so much, I’m glad it was a good reference for you.
Good question. I noticed the blue one goes through the floor and I never traced it all the way out.
I’ll be opening up the passenger side panel to do the plugs, wires and distributor. So I’ll make it a point to look. If I can see where it ends. I’ll let you know.
      Thanks again for the comment!
      Keep loving that TV!! :)

Thanks man! Really appreciate the help from you. I squirt a bunch of that B'laster stuff down the cable last night and left it up vertical in the hopes that gravity would help so I'll go check it soon and see if it's any smoother. Thanks again!

Dude it worked perfectly! I'm so stoked to have heat in my van for the first time! Last year was an extra chilly winter when driving in the van. Looking forward to your video on the 'Hose of Death'! I haven't checked mine and enjoy your simple step-by-step approach to these things. thanks again

Antonio, that’s excellent!!! Glad it worked out and it’s definitely great to have heat back.
My sliders and cables are all happy, next step is now I’ve got to make the blower work! Ha!

I’m about to do this. When I press the brake or get on the gas I can hear the mixer flapping open and closed.

Can you please do a video on removing the rear ac component? I also can't figure out how to fix the front cigarette lighter, fuse is good fusible link is good still doesn't work and my rear one just went out .

    • @GraeSkyeStudio
      @GraeSkyeStudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Ahhh, electrical issues are the worst. I don't actually have AC in my van so I can't really help very much, sorry. Maybe start researching on toyotavantechdotcom. Hope you can trace it down.
