    Toyota loves those "pesky heater hoses" they are a Land Cruiser thing too. It's easier to only cut 3 sides of the hole also, then bend the metal down or to the side for access. Cool vans, nice to see them kept alive.

    Just watched through your series and there's a lot of value to this I think. :)
    I checked out an ad for one of these a few days ago and loved the van but it's got some engine quirks (rough idle namely),
    so I wanted to get acquainted with these motors and I believe this has done it!

      McKenzie B yep- they do have their quirks as I suppose all vehicles do.
      I’m still just learning and thankfully there’s lots of help to be had.
      Thanks for checking out the vids and hope they’ve been of some value.

    The magnets were brilliant. That also allows for everything fitting, even if your hole isn't perfect. Something almost always will fit back where it came out of.

    Thanks for the videos I have a 1985 it had been sitting for 10 years when I bought it I just got it running and in process off trying to find an alternator.

    • @GraeSkyeStudio
      @GraeSkyeStudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Steve- glad you’re enjoying them. Pretty cool about the 1985. Alternators are a dicey proposition. You can buy aftermarket ones, but they tend to be hit and miss quality-wise.
      If it’s an original Toyota Alt in the van, you could have an alternator shop rebuild/refresh it. That’s basically what I did with mine.

    Also another hole cut to change fuel pump so I don't have to drop the tank.

      They’re great little vans!! As far as mechanical stuff, I wasn’t either till I started reading and learning. Of course it takes time, which is a very valuable commodity.
      As for mechanics, I’m not familiar with Pennsylvania. I’d suggest joining the Toyota Van Facebook group and see if you have any van owners in your area. There’s always good advice available from the TV Family in the group. facebook.com/groups/52191869582/?ref=share

    Hi, I have a 88 Toyota Van LE that I purchase 1 month ago and I live in the Caribbean so it's hot all year around. It seems that the person who had it eliminated the piece it connects too. I seen it Toyota forums that you can cap it off is it true? Will it work for now until i find that metal thin tubing it connects to?

    • @GraeSkyeStudio
      @GraeSkyeStudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. Sorry I never replied to your message.
      Honestly, I've never heard of capping it off. I'm not sure how that would impact the engine as this is part of the coolant circulation route.
      ....
      If you try to cap it off and it seems to work, let me know how it affects things. I'm curious now. :)
      Happy travels.

      @@GraeSkyeStudio thanks for the reply...I ended up solving the problem by just adding the hose directly for now to the manifold where it belongs, since there was no hardline. As soon as I get my hands on the hardline I will change it.

    how well have those magnets and the adhesive you used for them held up to the heat? i would think that the heat of the engine bay would do a number on the adhesives over time.

    • @GraeSkyeStudio
      @GraeSkyeStudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't had it open in a long while. But being that it's still all sealed up. I'd say its doing fine so far.
      I'd agree though that paying attention to the adhesive being industrial grade is very important. Especially regarding heat.

    We are leaving for a massive road trip this weekend. I'm considering cutting the hole tomorrow and replacing our HOD. Did you use Gates 5/16" inner diameter heater hose?

    • @GraeSkyeStudio
      @GraeSkyeStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh man. Honestly I can’t remember off the cuff.
      If memory serves, it was the same hose size as the others I replaced. If you have time and are close enough to an auto parts, I’d just take the hose in and have them match it up.

      @ErikEdney 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GraeSkyeStudio Ok thx! Also, did you replace the 2nd hose of death that Tim talks about on TVT? Wondering if that one is accessible from underneath on the 4WD or not?

    • @GraeSkyeStudio
      @GraeSkyeStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Erik, I did replace that second one as well. (It’s in one of the other coolant line vids). You can’t really access it from below without replacing a couple of other hoses that sit in the way.
      I’m at work, so can’t tell you which vid it was. Sorry.

    At 2:43, the nut you're removing hold what look like some smaller air sensor tubes. What is it exactly? I don't see any similarities with mine (1987).

    • @GraeSkyeStudio
      @GraeSkyeStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I remember correctly that was a hard-pipe cradle connected to a rubber hose. Honestly can't say off the top of my head exactly what it is. I'll check the manual for any info and let you know when I get a solid answer.

      @@GraeSkyeStudio Thank you so much for a quick response. I was in the middle of tinkering on my '87. Unfortunately, I feel like the Chilton manual I paid a 30-day access to on ebay doesn't seem to cover any of those rubber tubes. Do you happen to have any access to any manuals that would have the schematics that cover those? Thanks again!

    • @GraeSkyeStudio
      @GraeSkyeStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nim- according to the manual, it looks like that's a fuel line. I'm sure the models and design defers some from model to model. Crusty is a stripped down panel, no Air, manual tranny.

    • @GraeSkyeStudio
      @GraeSkyeStudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The ends of some of my hoses were slightly cracked from age. But honestly, even if the hose looks fine, it probably worth changing out. Especially if you have no dates attached to the last time it was touched. :)
