Luna the 1989 Toyota Van | Power Window Motor replaced
Luna's power window motors have been a bit cranky since we bought her a good while back. Especially when trying to close the windows.
So in this video I'm replacing the original motors with some from an earlier model van. The replacement motors were very generously gifted to me by a fellow van owner... Thanks Chris!!
So if you've ever wondered about how to remove and replace said motors (regulators)... this is your vid (It's really quite simple).
Hope you enjoy.
Note: As far as these motors go. I'd suggest doing a simple search on Google "Window Regulator" including your particular make and model. I've obviously not tested any of these, but there are quite a few that seem like they'd fit the bill. Hope that helps. :)

Great video, this has helped me. I'm having an issue now involving my sensor that triggers the rear most dome lamp and the "door ajar" warning light. I have identified the sensor that turns the light near the sliding door step area but apparently thats not the same sensor as the dome lamp and warning light are still on. I haven't found any other sensors to consider. Any ideas?

Stumbled upon your channel last week. Worked out fantastic because my Son and I just purchased a 1989 LE a few days ago. While driving home I pushed it a little too hard up the Grapevine on California I-5 and blew that forbidden hose. Instead of cutting the firewall, I’m going to remove the intake manifold to get to that line, and also replace everything else. What size hoses will I need to purchase? I’d like to have everything purchased and ready before I tackle this.

Thanks for your awesome vdeos! Ijust joined the toyota van tec group. I just bought an 88 4x4 jdm van, and I need to do a lift and suspension job first, so these three chapters of your Crusty lift were super encouraging! Just got a question, on your test drive you noticed the bushings were not felxi enough... so should I not order the parts numbers you recommended in this video? Do you have an updated parts number for those bushings? Thanks again from northern BC!

I am in Japan and found a beautiful 1988 Toyota Townace Super Extra 4x4. I'm about to start a clutch refresh and rear main seal replacement. These videos have been great preparing me for the job! I noticed that you scraped off some RTV from the bottom of the rear main seal housing but didn't put any new RTV on it. Did you have any issues as a result? It seems like that rear main seal housing and oil pan mating surface would be susceptible to leaking oil without a new bead of RTV. I'm trying to make sure I have everything I need before I get into the job. Thanks!

Thanks for posting this. "Chinatown" is one of the soundtracks of my life. In the mid-90s, I made the decision to move to Seoul, South Korea and a friend gave me a copy of "Penthouse" on CD as a parting gift. Turns out, I lived in a penthouse-like apartment in a high-rise building right in downtown Seoul. It was the first place I ever had on my own. I had never been to East Asia before and "Penthouse" esp. "Chinatown" resonated with me to a degree that is hard to explain: the sense of feeling lost in an alien world but being drawn to it nonetheless. "You're out all night / chasing girlies" "Rushing round in taxi cabs" - I had never taken a taxi before living in Seoul. It was a time in my life full of late nights and booze, taxis, a world I felt a bit lost in, but so rewarding. I'd listen to "Penthouse" riding on buses and subways and hearing it now always happily brings me back to those days. God bless Luna.

I replaced the fusible link, and everything works, now, except it turns over great, but won't start. (It alwayts starts very quickly.) Anyway, no one in the Atlanta are will even look at the van. Frustrating! I am open to any suggestions from any you or any of your viewers. Good luck with your new van!

Thanks for this. I was happy to find this video to see what's involved in removing the engine service hole cover! (That’s what they call it in the service manual!) I was surprised that I needed to do this to remove the distributor cap! Wasn't that bad. And I was able to leave all the cables attached since I only needed to slide the cover a few inches to gain the access I needed.

Really good to see you back! I hope this means the drought is over? Excellent video as usual. The passenger window on my 88 4x4 Van does not work, so I will be taking this on soon thanks to your video. BTW - The window motors are available on Amazon for about $60 because Toyota used those motors in other models - Cardone 47-1103 Remanufactured Power Window Lift Motor (Renewed). One last comment, not that you would want it to happen, but simple repairs to ABS is really easy now. Remember the Q-Bond product you purchased to repair your spider??? - that's what you would use. Cheers!

Thank you for such an informative DIY HOW-TO video. Very easy to watch and understand. I try to do my own repairs on my yota van. And it wasn't easy diagnosing the problem this time, I probably bled my brakes a half dozen times each time thinking I was good only to have the pedal push all the way to the floor while I still continued to roll. The confusing part was that I could get the brakes to grab if I applied them hard and fast but when I applied them slow and steady the pedal would just sink to the floor and not even slow me down. Thankfully my e-brake still functioned well and was a literal life saver. But enough about that. Now I need to order the master cylinder and get ready to tear out my dash. Thanks again. I look forward to checking out any more "crusty the van" videos
