Blue Magic "Sideshow" makes you feel so relaxed,😊 I'm still waiting for another song from the Stylistics "You make me feel Brand New" ✌️Peace ☮️ and Love❤️ your 70 year old forever Young Hippie Gary😊 Jay&Amber Great Reaction👍
Barry Gibbs admits that the Philadelphia sound with the falsetto was a big influence on his style. He didn’t always sing falsetto if you remember. He got it from the Philly sound.
The Stylistics, Tavares, The Manhattans, The Chi-lites, The Dramatics, Harold Melvin & The Blue notes, The Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose, The Spinners, The O’Jays, The Jackson 5, The DelFonics, The Temptations, The Four Tops, New Birth, Blue Magic, Bloodstone, The Five Stairsteps, The Main Ingredient, L.T.D. I can’t pick a single song with the groups mentioned. Everything they made was astounding.
More Philly sounds from the 70s - The spinners - it’s a shame; The o’jays - for the love of money, family reunion, stairway to heaven, emotionally yours; Stylistics - people make the world go round, break up to make up, i’m stone in love with you, you make me feel brand new. From Chicago, the Chi-lites - oh girl, (for god’s sake) give more power to the people.
This is their signature song, but my overwhelming favorite is "What's Come Over Me" (That song will put you in falsetto heaven) "Spell" and "Stop to Start" were killers too.
"What's Come Over Me" indeed, absolute classic, although it's got to be the version from the first album, not the altered version with the female co-lead that came later.
Jay, when you speak of Motown, they were on top in the 60s (not to say they were not relevant in later decades ). The philly sound was the dominant sound in the 70s. Solar (Sound of Las Angelas Records) was the sound and label of the 80s.
Wow did you transport me to a much better time with this one! Thank you so much as I've not heard or thought about this song since I don't know when. What a song!!! Smooth, chill, great vocals and beautiful music. Thank you a mill for this one❤
Yes you did hear harp a violin, etc The Sound of Philadelphia, baby written by Guitarist Bobby Eli (RIP) and Vinnie Barrett lead vocals by Ted Wizard Mills with the Vernon & Wendell Sawyer, Richard Pratt RIP, Keith Beaton RIP
If you never did any Stylistics they are up there also pay attention to the strings. That’s how I got into studying background and jazz especially violin.
This wasn’t a hit in the U.K. but was covered by Barry Biggs in a reggae style in 1976 which charted at no 3 but me here in the uk love the lush Philly sound which was taking off in the U.K. by artists like the delfonics and the stylistics
I was certain you'd get around to reacting to Blue Magic, with Ted Mills' spectacular falsetto, eventually. 🙂 Unlike their contemparies the Spinners and The Stylistics, who have signature songs that still get a lot of airtime ("I'll Be Around" and "You Are Everything" respectively, to name just two), it seems to me Blue Magic are quite under the radar and overlooked these days. Great pick.
They never got the recognition they deserved in the 70's as The Stylistics and The Chi-lites had a similar sound and took all the limelight Ted Mills had a fantastic voice ❤ My Fav from them, You should really do some Chi-lites '' Time for Love '' is top drawer vocal performance by the lead singer Eugene Record ❤ or Stylistics '' Betcha by golly wow '' with lead vocalist Russell Tomkins Jr ❤ you will be in falcetto heaven ❤
This was released in the Summer of '74. In the Fall, Blue Magic would provide backing vocals for The Rolling Stones song "If You Really Want To Be My Friend" on the It's Only Rock 'N' Roll album.
Hi there Jay and amber good to see you both love your channel you are cool people here and this one my favorite songs here blue magic is one great groups there.
Great Song. My friend's favorite. 🙏 RIP my man🙏 That's also a great LP. Next Blue Magic song listen to: 1 Spell 2 Just don't want to lonely 3 Stop to start 4 Whats come over me I believe all on that LP
"Summer Snow", "What’s Come Over Me" are great follow ups. As far as the Bee Gees, they copied The Delfonics, The Stylistics, The Temprees, The Dramatics, and other soul groups with falsetto leads. The Dramatics "Hey You!", Bloodstone's "Natural High", The Temprees "Out of My Reach", The Stylistics "You Are Everything", The Delfonics "Hey Love" are all great!
Little Anthony and the imperials were one the biggest influences of the Philly sound and blue magic, the stylistics , delphonics have covered little Anthony it’s worth noting, check it out
Blue magic was one of the most famous groups back then! Flawless voices ❤❤❤ one of their best is Whats come over me with Margie Joseph and I absolutely love it!!!
Hey guys enjoy your reactions I found during the pandemic 🤗 You REALLY need to go down the Blue Magic rabbit hole 😊👍🏾 Their music brings me back to my teenage love days. I’m now a 65 year old mother of 5 & Grandma to 3 soon to be 4
Blue Magic was one of the earliest Philly Soul successes. There was a time when there was a black hair care product called "Blue Magic", and they would do vocals for the commercial on Soul Train!! You should hear their "Just Don't Wanna Be Lonely" and "Stop to Start"!!
Bee Gees got their singing style from black groups using falsetto. If you listen to groups that were around back in the day their falsetto style far exceeds anything the Bee Gees ever did. Phillip Bailey from Earth Wind and Fire is a prime example. It is part of Black music culture so therefore the Bee Gees should remind you of the groups that paved the way for them. For brothers and sisters who understand the history of Black music, we don't get Bee Gee vibes.
I'm a white British guy but I do understand you, although I forgive the younger generation because there's no way they can ever experience the magic us oldies lived through. However the Bee Gees were founded in 1958 and Blue Magic in 1972, but I think most of us never really compared the Bee Gees to soul acts until Saturday Night Fever came along in 1977, and it was as if the brothers Gibb had just arrived on the scene - we knew of them here in the UK of course but probably not so much in the states. We only had one major radio station playing popular music so we heard a mixture of everything during the day, in shops and even in the workplace.
@@carefreescot You’re right I remember The Bee Gees from the 6O’s and they seemed to have disappeared and reinvented themselves with the Saturday Night Fever album and they did well from then on. I never compared them to R&B artists.
@@carefreescot You beat me to it. I wish people would do their research before coming out with statements like that. I know they are younger than us - but isn't that what the internet is good for?
@@carefreescottrue, but Barry never discovered his falsetto voice until a recording session in Miami in '75. There's a TH-cam video of him talking about it
Thom Bell, the writer-producer behind many of those Philly soul classics with falsetto vocals, was a classically trained pianist. Also, there was a definite connection between Philly soul and Detroit -- Eddie Kendricks, the Spinners, David Ruffin, and Detroit native Wilson Pickett all recorded Philly soul.
With all of the amazing groups and music back in the day, everyone who listened to their radio knew instantly what the song was and who performed it the minute it would come on. When you think of the tens of thousands of great tunes to come out over 2 or 3 decades, it seems impossible, but we knew em all. Bring it on again!
Jay & Amber, you’ll love Sammy Davis Jr.’s versions of "Love Me or Leave Me" and “That Old Black Magic”!!! "Love Me or Leave Me" features him scatting!! Yes, Sammy could do it all, sing, act and dance!!!!
Saw Sammy get the lifetime Achievement Award at the American Dance Honors, in San Diego 1990 presented by his good friend Liza Minnelli. Sammy was one of my favorite entertainers.✌️
I was a little boy, around 4 or 6 years old, when this song came out. Never gets old. When you get the chance, listen to "Spell" by them. I promise you won't be disappointed. You will definitely feel that dreamy feeling on that song!

The album this song was on is a total gem (Every song)! From "Spell" to "What's Come Over Me" to "Look Me Up" (popular in the dance clubs) and many more!
I would love for you to react to Eddie Kendricks (from the Temptations) sing "Girl You Need a Change Of Mind." It was on the dancefloors in the 70s and has some wicked vocals and horns!
I'm 60 amd and grew up listening to my older siblings grooving to the classic soul and RnB from the late 60's and 70's with such great music. Sadly these great melodies, harmonie and arrangements are Long Gone from popular music theae days. Will it ever come back?
I think you would love The Chi-Lites “Ohhh Girl”. So beautiful!
Hell yeah such an awesome song
Yes!!!!
Yes!!! Good choice!
Now they have better have done that song! These two are so far behind of the many greats😢😢😢😢😢😢
Any Chi-Lites song 🔥
Blue Magic, The Stylistics, The Whispers, The Spinners, The Delfonics, etc. All these groups bring it home.
And The Main Ingredient
Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes👍✌️
@@Robsan40 yes. The Temprees, Bloodstone, The Moments, The Younghearts, The Intruders,
I've been telling them about all of these groups throughout their time on the channel that's over three years and they just getting to Blue Magic..
@@empire7179 I think they tend to lean towards Rock.
Should revisit the “DelFonics” and “Didn’t I Blow Your Mind This Time” absolutely a Fantablous song
Or do a FIRST reaction to Toni Braxton, BabyFace or Pebbles. Zero reactions to those three, a huge part of 90s R&B.
"Didn't I Blow Your Mind This Time" is my favorite by the Delfonics!
One of my favorites too!!
💯
From the Delphonics,I'd pick La La Means I Love You first, but this is just my own opinion.Delphonics are great whatever they do.
The Main Ingredient " Everybody Plays The Fool"
Love this song! Also 'Just Don't Wanna be Lonely' by them.
Or "Spinning Around (I Must Be Falling In Love)"
@Robsan40 Just Don't Want To Be Lonely is another good song by them as well.

Yes, thank you. Barry Gibbs did not invent falsetto.
@@gmac64 If it was up to J., he would say Barry Gibbs invented falsetto.
Barry didn't start using falsetto until '75 in a recording session in Miami and wasn't confident in it at first

No one even mentioned the group....The Stylistics
They're reacted to them.. not enough times though
Definitely more Stylistics vibes than Bee Gees. I actually thought it was the Stylistics until I saw this
Right! I actually always thought that it was them. Lol
The Stylistics covered "Sideshow", and it sounds almost exactly the same as Blue Magic's original.
@ddgardner5671 ? Lol, really. I didn't know that. Awesome
70s the decade of great music… I really believe it’s the best decade of all👏👏👏
So do I BIG TIME my 2nd Fav mid to late 60s

Singing falsetto for Blue Magic is: Ted " Wizard " Mills.
